5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Hard Drive

Pros: I've had this for over 2 years and it still works. I haven't dropped it or anything to test the durability, and I don't plan on it.

Cons: The Padding stuff comes off easily but it hasn't been a problem for me.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: It's sturdy, fairly reliable, unless you'd take it to a dangerous construction zone, sleek design.

Cons: Could have faster transfer rate, needs a longer cord, otherwise no problems here.

1 out of 5 eggsOne reads it, one doesnt

Pros: Cheap enough. Comes with its own USB cord.

Cons: The laptop "sees" it. The desktop does not. Hmmm.

Other Thoughts: I am sure there is a simple reason. Just had not had this happen before.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent/Durable Drive!

Pros: I have been backpacking across Africa for 4 months and this drive has held up wonderfully! In addition to the relatively fast 300Mbps (30MBPS) transfer speed it also is true to its name when it says it's "Water & Shock Proof".

This gets thrown around the backpack and goes through torrential rainstorms on a weekly basis and nothing has broken. The insert around the edge for the cable helps keep the cable intact as well. Excellent build quality all around!

Africa Tested and Approved!! :)

Cons: To keep the rubber flap in (that protects the micro-usb port) you have to push on it with some force. I'm not taking off because it does a wonderful job at keeping water out

Other Thoughts: Tip: To keep the rubber flap in, and to give it more protection. Make sure the big side of the usb, the side that attaches to your computer, is fully covering the flap!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat external backup drive

Pros: I have purchased these for several of my customers to backup their servers. They get a couple of different colors and alternate them. They look slick, have decent speeds, and are reliable.

Cons: Write speed could be a little faster.

2 out of 5 eggsHigh failure rate!

Pros: ADATA drives have interesting and sometimes convenient designs at a good price point

Cons: I use my external drives a lot - shuttling files back and forth from a sound studio. I've went through 2 of ADATA drives - first one failed within 4 months, I was sent a different model replacement and after about 9 months it refused to be recognized by my Mac - thank goodness I was able to restore the file table and copy the files, but this is not a good track record for a data storage device.

Other Thoughts: ADATA drives may be ok for storing non-essential files at home, but definitely not for frequent traveling, intensive or pro use.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry that you have had difficulties with our product. IF you had difficulties keeping the file table, this is normally due to improperly ejecting the drive. We recommend verifying if there might be any registry in the background keeping the drive active and always making sure the drive is eject or safely removed from the operating system.

If you are still experiencing issues or need additional support please contact our office directly: Phone: 1-888-962-3282 x604; Email: support@adatausa.com. One of support staff members will be happy to assist you with your case.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The drive works perfectly

Cons: The enclosure is a bit chunky. The cable that is attached to the enclosure is a hassle to take off and put back on.

Other Thoughts: I'd like it better if they had made enclosure smaller and left out the capablity to attach the cable to the enclosure.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's rugged and has nice design.

Cons: Will not work with Acronis True Image Home (from boot)! Not even hours of Acronis tech support would get this drive recognized while in Acronis bootable media. Believe that it is not Linux friendly but not confirmed.

5 out of 5 eggsDurable!

Pros: Not too expensive, good (but not extreme) capacity, looks and feels pretty slick. The USB cable attaches to the rubberized shell so you've always got it handy.

The real selling point here is the durability, and for this, I cannot praise it enough. I've spilled liquids on it, dropped it. I once got juice from a roast beef sandwich on it, gave it a splash of water from the sink and it was fine.

Perhaps the highest praise I can offer for this product is that it has survived my backpack. I am a bicycle commuter. I hop off curbs at 20mph every day, I go across gravel and even a bit of trail riding to get around my campus. This has held up fantastically.

Cons: The rubberized part is really just a wrap, not part of the actual shell of the hard drive. It can be removed. The colored part is beginning to peel off the rest in some places after a year of rough-and-tumble ownership. Nothing a bit of crazy glue can't fix, but worth noting.

The small rubber cover of the USB port is attached by just a thin strip of material and could be pulled off easily, though this hasn't happened to me.

Other Thoughts: If lost or stolen (or somehow broken), I would buy this again. This is my go-to recommendation if the drive fits the needs of the asker. I've directed a few clients and family members towards this drive, and haven't heard anything about it since (a good thing!).
