4 out of 5 eggsIOGEAR ION Drive II

Pros: Good value for the money. It worked fine. I used Norton Ghost to create an image of a laptop drive. Runs from USB port but has a 5 volt input at the back of the drive. No 5volt power supply included or needed. No brainer, plug and play.

Cons: Instruction manual in French only. CD included contains an English version.

Other Thoughts: I believe this is a discontinued model, but still is a good value.

1 out of 5 eggsCheap Case

Pros: USB power no need for external AC adapter. Good seek time, and fast retrieval of files. I was able to download 33 GB of files in no time.

Cons: Not very compact, the case is very cheap and does not absorb any shock. The drive fell from my desk and the USB connector came of the circuit board. I had to physically hold the connector to the circuit board (feeling the electricity run through my hand was an added bonus) while I prayed that all my files would be downloaded in time before it crashed---I was able to get about 80% of my files - then the drive crashed.

Other Thoughts: Some monitors that have USB connections will not have enough power for this hard drive, you will have to connect it to the CPU instead.
