4 out of 5 eggsDon't Give up on "2TB" Drive

Pros: Drive works fine and is as advertised...great deal!

Cons: Drive needs outside help for proper formatting.

If you're running Windows XP/7/8 32-bit, you will likely not be able to use this drive as your boot drive with more than 2TB in use. This is inherent to all drives over 2TB. For some it will be

Other Thoughts: The drive at first appeared to be not working, and then appeared not to allow me to consolidate the previous user's partitions (no data, but logical drives still there on refurb). After hours of research I figured out the following 2 keys:

You will have to manually "Online" the drive through disk manager or DISKPART.

for Win 32-bit users, you will need an external program to convert the drive to a GPT boot record with 4k data blocks in order to use the full drive. I downloaded AOMI free and had it set, formatted, and activated in three minutes.

Pros: Low Power
Quiet
Big Storage.

Cons: Runs HOT!
Premature Failure.

Other Thoughts: I purchased a one of these a year ago. I purchased this one to add to my NAS system for RAID 1 and would you believe that when moving from chassis to the new one, my older drive failed and is no longer in warranty!!!

WD drives are extremely reliable they are the only thing we use at work but my luck in my personal system I have not been able to experience this. Seagate has had a much more reliable track record for me.

My 2TB Green WDC Drive died 3 months after purchase and the 1TB Green died 1 week after install. Fortunately my other drives were covered under warranty and they do have good warranty service.

I just have really bad luck with my drives from WDC. At work we have nearly 200 various drives Blue, Black, and Red and we have only had one go bad in the past 2 years...

Pros: Price

Cons: Dead on Arrival...well, sorta...

formatted and assigned a drive letter... died on it's first attempt of file writing.

Other Thoughts: didn't get a chance to install this HDD until after 30 days of ordering... hope there is a warranty.

this is the first time i've had a problem with Newegg Product.

Pros: Excellent drive overall. Fairly fast without errors once I got it running.

Cons: Some bad sectors. One harddrive failed completely in two weeks.

Other Thoughts: I ordered six of these harddrive to setup a linux raid harddrive. I had to send three back to WD for replacement because of bad sectors and drive failures. It took some time, but eventually everything was working correctly.

Pros: Bad drives

Cons: I tried to initialize and format two refurbished drives, and neither drive works. One was very slow, and the other won't work at all.

Pros: The drives Partitioned and full formatted with no errors, It works. The truth may be found after data is loaded.

Cons: I did not buy more of them

Other Thoughts: I have never had a WD drive that had a problem or I could not find a solution for, I have spent a lot of time working out problems with drives others have given me, always found the solution through blogs, feedback or WD tools.

4 out of 5 eggsCorrosion on chip?

Pros: Lots of storage space
Excellent Price
Ran an advanced tool used to check for problems with the drive, came back with none after several hours of tests.
Fast transfer speed, from my 2TB SataIII drive I am getting 100mbps usually.

Cons: There is corrosion on the chip. It seems almost like the chip was left out with moisture for some time and all of the metal parts have a spotted brownish look you normally see with corroding computer parts.

According to reviews this drive gives the slowest performance out of any 3TB hard drive, however since I want huge storage and a good price and not performance, this is no concern to me.

Other Thoughts: The drive so far performs excellent. I am using it as my backup. In a few months if it comes out to be bad I will come back and leave another review, for now however it is working wonderful. If it wasn't for the corrosion which makes me feel a little unsafe then I would have given it 5 eggs, so -1 for that.

Pros: None

Cons: I ordered 2, both arrived DOA. One had a broken power connector, my system could not detect the other. I tried every possible connection/configuration. I tried different cables, sata connections on my mobo. It didn't work.

Other Thoughts: Don't waste your time and money getting mailed paperweights.

I've never received a DOA product in years of using Newegg. I figured it was kinda an inevitable but very rare issue. Two dead at once is just too much. It's the hard drives.
