4 out of 5 eggslow cost drives

Pros: low cost WD drives

Cons: kind of a toss up as to what drives are actually in these. if you use as an external drive on USB2.0 then it really doesn't matter. If you pull them out like I did then it would have been nice to have the same drive inside.

Other Thoughts: Bought two of these to populate my NAS. didn't use/need the enclosure but these were the lowest cost 2TB drives I could find. I pulled them out and got one WD20EURS and one WD20EARX. filling up my NAS right now and no problems so far. catch these as refurb or on sale and you got an nice cheap 2TB drive.

1 out of 5 eggsDIED AFTER 5 MONTHS

Pros: Cheap. Easy and fast - plug and play out of the box. It's an external hard drive, not too much to it.

Cons: Maybe because it was not refurbished correctly, this item died on me after 5 months (and a few days). I know that a hard drive can die any time, but it doesn't seem right to only get 5 months of usage out of a hard drive before having to replace it. It might even be less expensive to rent space online and just upload all of my data.

Other Thoughts: Western Digital's warranty only lasted a bit less than 5 months (I always register my products with them). I feel a bit taken that it died almost exactly when the warranty ran out.

1 out of 5 eggsrecertified or just reshipped

Pros: well it worked for about an hour

Cons: its a paper weight

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced with the WD Elements Desktop 2TB, as this is not the typical experience with the product.
Our drives are rigorously tested to ensure they are in good working condition before they leave our warehouses, and for this reason it is unfortunate that you have received a dead on arrival (DOA) drive. We do stand behind our warranty and replacement policy and would appreciate the opportunity to replace your drive for you directly.

2 out of 5 eggsLoud Squeky Noises in less than 2 weeks!

Pros: It worked fine for the first week or so.

Cons: On the 10th day, it made very loud squeaky noises, which is a big indicator that the Harddrive is failing.

Other Thoughts: I brought many other Harddrives from NewEgg.com, but this is the first time it happened so fast.

I guess it depends on luck whether or not you will get a good harddrive when buying re-certified harddrives.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: Small?

Cons: This arrived today, and literally stopped working within 20 minutes. The computer first wouldn't recognize the drive, so I restarted both. Then the drive wouldn't even turn on. I have bought quite a few items from newegg, and this is the first one I've been extremely displeased with. This makes me think it is a Western Digital flaw, and after reading more problem reviews online I will not be going back to WD.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: This hard drive is simple to use, just plug it in and use it. I've had it for about 4 months now and had no problems with it whatsoever. I don't turn it off, so keep that in mind. No problems-constant use. After this experience I would definitely consider buying Western Digital again.

Cons: Ummm...It's not portable? Oh, and it's actually 1.8 tb, but since I still haven't filled it I don't consider it that big a deal

Other Thoughts: I'm not incredibly tech savvy, but I've been using computers my entire life (my dad had a Commodore 64). This is so simple my grandmother who had to ask me how to send messages on facebook could use it.

5 out of 5 eggsEPIC Storage for cheap

Pros: My steam library adds up to 2TB of backups. My internet is 1.2mb/s when its in a good mood. This drive keeps a backup of EVERY steam game I own. Whenever a game is updated, I update my backup. The drive stays plugged in constantly and runs at decent speeds. For the price this thing CAN'T be beat. The reliability of western digital with 2TB of storage.

Cons: Requires a power outlet? That is to be expected with a full sized drive.

Other Thoughts: About to buy a second one to store all my movies and stream them from the router to my smart t.v.
