1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive, Blue

Pros: Package arrived in pristine condition, no visible damage.

Cons: Drive was a brick out of the box. SMART immediately threw red flags, Current Pending Sector counts were through the roof. Could not even initialize or mount to perform surface tests in multiple machines. Disk Management would randomly lose the device, had to use Victoria to check SMART attributes.

Other Thoughts: I have a personal policy to never buy anything but WD Black or Seagate Enterprise (5yr) drives. I bought the WD Blue (2yr) for a customer in a pinch, and knew I'd regret it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello there Kornstalx, it is unfortunate that you experienced a faulty drive. Our drives are rigorously tested to ensure they are in good working condition before they leave our warehouses, and for this reason it is unfortunate that you have received a non-functional unit. We do stand behind our warranty and replacement policy and would appreciate the opportunity to replace your drive for you.

5 out of 5 eggsLove Western Digital

This review is from: Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive, Blue

Pros: Great Drive and very affordable. Does just what any 7200RPM hard drive should do.

Cons: It's not an SSD

Other Thoughts: I always always go with Western Digital. I've purchased at least 10 drives from them over the years and all of them still work today. I can't see a reason to go with anyone else as they are very reliable and have my trust.

5 out of 5 eggsWD 10EZEX 1 TB

This review is from: Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive, Blue

Pros: Price - Single Platter - Quiet - Works Perfectly

Cons: They don't go On Sale often enough.

Other Thoughts: Will buy a couple more on the next sale. I had decided to only buy SSD's only a few months ago - but the price and quality of these changed my mind.

1 out of 5 eggsArrived DOA

This review is from: Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive, Blue

Pros: Its WD. One of the more reliable HDD manufactures on the market.

1TB drive at average price

Free Shipping

Purchased from Newegg, and rarely has there been a bad experience.

Cons: The firm new bubble wrap is coll, but two columns of bubbles had deflated or leaked out during transit. Nothing more surrounded the drive protecting it during shipping :(

Space for it to move around due to empty shipping space in the box.

Felt as though it required more time to ship this out than usual once ordered, but nothing beyond reason and does not affect product

WD is often a bit more expensive than most drives, and although reliable, there are brands like hitachi that outperform them and often they many be less expensive. Side note to validate reliability... *easy point of reference is originates from the Nov 2013 Blackblaze data. Search "Backblaze" and key words such as failure rates -> they use 25,000 hard drives always running for years and released a report quantifying failure rate per manufacturer to include other interesting data as well.

Regardless this is first DOA HDD I have received from WD to include Newegg as well.

I have had 3-4 WD's die over the past 10 years or so, all RMA'd through warranty. So longevity has always been "just a matter of time," from my perspective.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately I ordered this a month before it was needed. Tonight I pulled it from its shipping box, package and opened the drive fresh from the static bag. When installed It was immediately concerning, as the infamously repetitive, click, click, click, chimed in. Connected to a different PC = same result. External docking bay -> yup same thing. Not recognized by windows, Paragon, Easeus, or otherwise, never stops clicking, Im sure shes a lemon. Id be less surprised if it were a 4TB drive, but on a smaller platter of 1 TB W??? I have come to expect better more, granted they do happen, other reviewers seem to be encountering a string of bunk drives as well. patterns are never good :/

This was stored well, sealed and otherwise as received until 30 minutes ago, despite possession for a month.

Hopefully i can RMA via newegg, otherwise looks like I anticipate that i will end up paying regular price for a refurbished drive if I send in to WD... I must review the Newegg policy on drives again before I can comment on this, or speak to the process.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA and replacement so slow

This review is from: Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive, Blue

Pros: Cheap. WD, which have always performed well for me

Cons: DOA. Request for RMA approved quickly, but was given a link for returning it their 'preferred way' that would cost me $10.13. Complained and was THEN told that they would cover the cost since it was defective. Received email and printed label included. Took to UPS store as directed and sent it off last Thursday. Today, a week later, replacement has just left their facility.

Other Thoughts: As a small PC builder/tech, customer service is vital for return business. This lag may have cost me a customer due to the slow replacement time for the defective part. I still don't know when I will received the part and can repair the computer I have had 2 weeks. Even with higher prices locally, I guess I should start using local businesses to buy parts, sigh.

Also, I wish they had been up front about paying return shipping on defective parts instead of making it appear I would have to cover those costs. Guess they were hoping I would do it without raising a bit of a fuss.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsNice drive

This review is from: Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive, Blue

Pros: Works great and has the best storage for the price.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: After seeing some of the bad reviews for it I was hesitant. I Installed it on a new custom pc and it worked flawlessly. Ran a fresh copy of Win 7 Pro 64 and it has ran perfect since. Not a single problem so far.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent 1TB HDD For The Price

This review is from: Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive, Blue

Pros: No complaints here. It works perfectly fine. If you're looking for a good 1tb drive for cheap, this is the best your money will get you. It's quiet when reading/writing files as well. Can't go wrong here.

Cons: None yet. Although I've only owned it for a few weeks. WE will see if it will stand the test of time.
