5 out of 5 eggsGreat For RAID's

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD10EFRX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: USED for a raid in my pc and they work great no issues. I mean what could be wrong they are WD drives.

Cons: None-Other then price but you are paying for a higher quality drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Dives

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD10EFRX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: These drives have worked flawlessly with a lsi 9260-4i and an intel sas expander. The drives in RAID 6 run at about 200 MegaBytes per second (probably would be faster if there wasn't a bottleneck in the sas expander from it running 16 other drives).

Cons: None so far!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Storage, Debatable Speed

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD10EFRX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: This drive is great for 24/7 operation in servers, and NASes. It says cool and relatively quiet with low power draw.

Cons: The speed on this drive is definitely not up to par with what I expected from WD's pro line. While write speeds are fine, read speeds across my network are definitely on the low end.

Other Thoughts: I really like this drive, but I did have to cut an egg for the low performance. I've had this drive about 2 months and it's been solid for the entire time. It sits in my DC/Media Server and just works. It definitely solidifies why I go with WD drives, they're reliable and keep up with my work load. It's not the fastest drive out there, but it handles it's task rather well. I'm thinking about purchasing a few more of these.

1 out of 5 eggsDead on Arrival

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD10EFRX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: none

Cons: Arrived dead on arrival. Failed SMART test with my Synology DS415+ Network Attached Storage.

Other Thoughts: Seemed like a good hard drive, but I was unlucky and received a bad unit. I returned the item and decided to go with a Seagate HDD instead.

1 out of 5 eggs4 backups and failure

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD10EFRX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: cheap

Cons: low reliability for a NAS drive

Other Thoughts: Owned this drive since 9/8/14 for periodic backups of my hackintosh main disk. Over the course of a year I've backed up my disk 5 times and it now has trouble getting detected in the dock. After multiple attempts and turning the unit over a few times did it spin up. A Verify Disk detected no errors however.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi there Charis, we want to extend our apologies for the issue you have experienced. Although WD hard drives should work properly in external enclosures/Docking stations, these particular drives are intended for use in applicable NAS enclosures. There are many different external bridgeboard and enclosure/Docking station manufacturers, each with their own command sets, levels of compatibility, and technical issues. If a drive was previously working as intended in your dock but now exhibiting signs of concern, we recommend trying the drive on another system or dock as test. If the drive continues to have issues, you would want to consider replacing it under warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat NAS Drives

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD10EFRX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Great low power, low temp, fast drives.
I ran 2 runs of badblocks on my NAS server which wrote around 8TB to each of my 2 drives. No Write errors, No read errors, no corruption errors.

Hopefully I eliminated most of the infant mortality risk and will keep plugging along.
Write at around ~150MB/s

Cons: $14 more than a Blue drive, but these are pretty good drives

1 out of 5 eggsDead in less than 3 months

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD10EFRX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: cheap?

Cons: I use the hard drive to back up around 200GB worth of business and personal data.

This morning while I'm transferring some of the files from the hard drive to my computer, some of the files are corrupted and the hard drive now unreadable.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi there Daniel, we want to extend our apologies for the issue you have experienced. It is unfortunate to find out your drive failed so soon after being purchased. If the hard drive is connected to an external enclosure, if possible try connecting it directly to a desktop PC as a test. Regardless of the reason for your drives defect, we stand by our product, and would like to replace your drive for you directly, and investigate to determine the root cause of the failure.

2 out of 5 eggsOne of the two still lives

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD10EFRX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Good price, good warranty.

Cons: Need to use the warranty after 6 months.

Other Thoughts: A pair of drives in a CentOS 6.5 system running software raid. After 6 months one drive simply died...invisible to the system. Hope the warranty process isn't too painful.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi there Sean, it is unfortunate to hear about the unexpected drive failure of your WD Red. We understand your situation and will gladly replace your in-warranty drive, as we stand by our products and their associated warranties. You may do so online by visiting the following link.

5 out of 5 eggs10,500 hours and counting (x4)

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD10EFRX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Temperature and vibration resistance personally tested A+
Drives are perfectly happy at 110F all day.
Fast throughput for a 5400 RPM drive.
Have survived hundreds of hours of subwoofer vibrations that buzz the whole desk.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I run four of these drives in RAID10 with a 64GB SSD cache in front of them. Although one WD Red failed very early, the replacement and original three have been rock solid since day one, 2 years and a few months so far.

4 out of 5 eggsFirst time WD Customer

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD10EFRX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: These drives are really really quiet and don't give off a lot of heat unlike my previous discs from 4yrs ago. It's difficult to tell these drives are actually on and spinning. Perfect!

Cons: None that I know of yet.
