5 out of 5 eggsAwesome NAS Drives

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" NAS Hard Drive

Pros: I bought 3 hard drives and all 3 work fine. Installed them in a QNAP TS-451 under a RAID 5 and there is no hiccups.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I will definitely buy a one more if the prices gets below $100.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat NAS Drives.

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" NAS Hard Drive

Pros: Performance
Reliability

Cons: Price

Other Thoughts: I have used these drives in 3 different Nas devices for the past 4 years. They have performed flawlessly. not one problem with them. probably the best drives for NAS storage devices. I have seen some people use these in pc's ...dont use these for pc's they are designed to run in NAS devices not pc's use the wd black or blue drives for pc's!

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" NAS Hard Drive

Pros: My one egg early review was for 1 out of 4 drives that I bought was DOA. The first three work great passed all test.

Cons: I am watching WD going downhill. I have 3 old Ribbon drives that still work. WD you are letting us down. Like everything else quality control is junk. China is worse thanks to American greed.

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" NAS Hard Drive

Pros: NONE

Cons: DOA Was waiting for this drive so I can do a Raid with 3 other WD Reds
I was lucky the other three passed the test this drive just clicks and
windows won't load so its a dead one.

1 out of 5 eggs2 failed in 18mos.

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" NAS Hard Drive

Pros: 3 year warranty is the only 'pro'

Cons: I bought 2 from another retailer,
both lost their volume and capacity within 18-20 mo.
All data lost.

Other Thoughts: WD is shipping me 2 replacements,
new or re-manufactured remains to be seen,
which I won't be able to trust, either.

I guess I'll use them as extra BU drives in/out of a dock.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsReluctant to Buy

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" NAS Hard Drive

Pros: WD Red drives are solid performers and perfect for NAS systems. Price per terabyte is good when you catch them on sale.

Cons: Not the fastest drives, but in NAS systems the hard drive isn't the slowest link in the chain. Questionable packaging practices from Newegg.

Other Thoughts: This is directed more to Newegg than WD. I like WD Red drives and plan to buy more, but not here. Newegg's practice of tossing a drive into a box along with some padding makes for a 50/50 chance your drive will function when it arrives. They really need to get back to properly securing hard drives for shipping.

Newegg has done more harm than good to their reputation over hard drive packaging issues over the years. Getting it out the door fast is not always beneficial.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Thomas, we thank you for taking the time to bring your concerns to us. If by chance you experience a drive failure either after some use or out of the box, we are happy to work with you directly to replace your drive under warranty and receive the non-functional drive back for testing. You can reach us by email or phone below and mention this Newegg review.

5 out of 5 eggsSo Far i love Them

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" NAS Hard Drive

Pros: Bought 2 and put them into a RAID 1 config. They run my WHS and are upgrades from Seagate 1.5 TB. They are running in a very small inclosure 24/7 for the last 4 months and i haven't had a hiccup yet. the Case is in a cabinet and has endured some heat... These are storing and serving almost 1000 movies and all mine and my GFs user files to the tablets, 2 laptops, 2 phones, 1 desktop and the internet. I have done a good deal of video editing while streaming mulitiple HD movies and copying large files to them and I didn't experience any lag!

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: If i got a dud i would be upset but would still use them.

1 out of 5 eggsCAVEAT EMPTOR!

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" NAS Hard Drive

Pros: Was great when it worked.

Cons: The reliability of this drive is highly questionable. I'm on my second drive from WD after I RMA'd the first one. Now this drive is on the verge of failure according to my NAS. And before people ask, yes, the NAS is alright since I have another drive in there chugging along just fine.

This seems like a series of lemons from WD and I hope they learned some lessons from this drive series. I've heard the 4 and 2 TB drives are reliable but for whatever reason, the 3TB series seems to be a dog.

Other Thoughts: The irony of this drive is that it's specifically made to be used in NAS and yet I'm already experiencing my second failure with this drive in a Synology NAS.

I still believe WD makes good hard drives. It's disappointing because this is the first series of drives from WD that I've found not to be reliable.

Unfortunately for WD, I might be looking at other competitors more closely after this fiasco.

Manufacturer Response:

Ken, we are glad you have brought your experience brought to our attention. Western Digital does rigorously test and verify all of our drives, prior to shipping, with burn-in and diagnostic tests.
