5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drives, NO DOA so far

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" NAS Hard Drive

Pros: Silent, speed is adequate for NAS applications. I've seen a lot of DOA complains on this drive. This is my fifth Red which I installed into my expandable raid and all drives been rock solid since I bought the first two from Newegg about a year and half ago.

Cons: Not cheap enough?? :P

Other Thoughts: It seems that the main reason the eggs are average for this drive is due to DOAs, from my experience I can't say I have the same problem. Solid WD and meet my expectations, same goes for every WD I've ever bought.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Drives for NAS

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" NAS Hard Drive

Pros: Ordered 2 of these 3TB Red drives for my Synology NAS.
They've been amazing so far, I've had the unit about 10 months now. I have had no issues with the drives.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for hard drives for your NAS or other network storage device, don't mess around. Go with Western Digital. These are fantastic drives.

5 out of 5 eggsGood drives, check firmware

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" NAS Hard Drive

Pros: Great for media center storage or every day usage. These drives combined with HDD Guardian will keep going for a long time. Great $/GB at the time.

Cons: Firmware had issues in some facilities, make sure you check for any updates your drives may need after ordering! If you don't get the update they act like the WD Greens that constantly moved the heads and destroyed themselves.

5 out of 5 eggsWork well, 8 in RAID5

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" NAS Hard Drive

Pros: Solid, quiet, low power. No delay in spin up when I'm grabbing large files from the RAID. Server is online 24x7 for data and video. Since converting everything from the Seagate Green and WD Green, the server has been solid as a rock.

Cons: No bad experiences thus far with the 8. Just ordered 2 more for a new server build, this one a bit smaller.

3 out of 5 eggsWD Red NAS HDD SATA

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" NAS Hard Drive

Pros: Runs Quiet and Cool

Cons: Drive didn't last a year before loosing data on the platters. lost about a terabyte out of 3. I was able to recover 1 terabyte of good files.

Other Thoughts: I use Western Digital drives exclusive in all of our computers. There are very few failures I have never last data off of the platters but have had a few electronics fail which is easy to recover. This is the first Red that I have owned and I am a little disappointed with it but still stand by WD, but will stay with the Black

5 out of 5 eggsMostly positive experience

This review is from: Western Digital Red NAS Hard Drive WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" NAS Hard Drive

Pros: Relatively low cost/TB, Low noise, No vibration issues.

Cons: Based on reviews, it seems there are better NAS drives available but I would rather sacrifice a small amount of performance/reliability for a significant cost savings.

Other Thoughts: The site offered the best deal to date since I have been watching prices (4 for $400) and I have had mostly positive results with this model. Out of 13 purchased for use in several DROBOS, I have only had one that had problems. It pretty much stopped working after very little use and would not function in the array or as a standalone drive. WD's RMA process is pretty straightforward and my only complaint would be paying to ship them a drive that should have worked in the first place.

Samsung used to be my favorite drives due to cost and reliability but when they were bought out, I started buying WD drives instead. The Samsung drives are still going strong after years of 24/7 use and I hope the WD drives will match them in longevity.
