1 out of 5 eggsWD 160

Pros: One worked and the second did NOT

Cons: JUNK

Other Thoughts: Never again on this product

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Richard,
Each drive we ship is rigorously tested to ensure they are in good working condition before leaving our warehouses, and for this reason it is unfortunate that you have received a non-functional unit. We do stand behind our warranty and replacement policy and would appreciate the opportunity to replace your drive for you directly to determine the reason for its failure.

5 out of 5 eggsWDC product Quality

Pros: What ive come to expect in the years of product usage from WDC, carries over into their refurbished product line as well, never a bad product and never had a failure to date. Based on what type of product I purchased, it worked exactly as I expected a 5400rpm platter drive to work.

Cons: Its not fast, but who expects that when buying this type of device, unless your coming off a 4200rpm ide laptop drive.....

5 out of 5 eggsSkeptical Refurbished

Pros: It's a Western Digital Hard Drive. There is not much to it, the name itself has it's own reputation of good.
Cheaper than a new version. Same performance.

Cons: No cons, works like if it was new.

Other Thoughts: I thought it would be a bad idea going with a refurbished product, especially something as drastic as a hard drive. It turns out it was the perfect idea, cheap and just as sturdy if not equally sturdy as a new version.

No problems what so ever.

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost.

Pros: Purchased to replace an 80GB Toshiba drive that had failed in a seven year old laptop used daily only for surfing and office work. 160GB 5.2k rpm was perfect, as I need little space and speed isn't an issue. I've generally had good luck with refurbished drives in the past.

Cons: After formatting the drive on my desktop, checking for errors, test copying some large files back and forth, and power cycling several times, I reformatted and installed it into the laptop. Windows copied my backup image of W7x32 flawlessly and I used the laptop for three days without problems.

On the fourth day, open programs in Windows began behaving erratically and locking up on basic tasks. Following this, a BSOD followed by a hard reboot. Upon reboot, no operating system found. Another reboot and drive was not recognized as installed. Dead as a doornail.

Other Thoughts: Usually WD is very good with refurbished drives, but seems as though I got a lemon here. Happens now and again.

The real pain is having to take the entire laptop apart again, as this particular model doesn't have a hatch on the bottom for the HDD and was assembled in a manner that doesn't exactly encourage tinkering. But I've been getting a lot of practice recently......

3 out of 5 eggsGood drive, while it worked

Pros: Good $/GB
Decent Speed
Worked out of the box, did a quick windows install and had it up in a running in an hour, no issues
5400 RPM, so uses a little less power than 7200 RPM

Cons: Died after 6 months of use, just slowly started corrupting itself. Installed WIndows again and did chkdsk and other software scans, but it still corrupted again. Now it's just a paperweight.

Only 5400 RPM, so a little slower than 7200 RPM drives.

Other Thoughts: Worhtwhile hard drive if you need a cheap drive, but keep in mind that it only has a 90 Day warranty, so outside of that, you're out of luck.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Fairly inexpensive, works as they should.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: It's always taking a chance with refurbished products, but I have had good luck with these drives.

5 out of 5 eggsReconditioned drive good as new

Pros: The original drive this one replaced was a WD Scorpio Blue also. Ok, I installed it today, plug and play, exact fit, instantly recognized, absolutely no problems, reinstallation of Windows 8 Professional was a snap.

This drive has less capacity but since I no longer have the factory recovery partition, the new drive has nearly the same space as the original.

The Newegg price was excellent also. The laptop is five years old so it didn't make sense spending too much on a replacement drive. I'm glad Newegg has parts like these available - very handy.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drives

Pros: Received 15 and they all successfully completed a full format and installation of Windows 7.
Packaged very well , surrounded by foam and bubble wrap.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: Ordered one day and received the next day at 7:30 am. Incredible.
