5 out of 5 eggsRaid Keeps on Rolling

This review is from: Western Digital RE WD2000FYYZ 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I am impressed with how well these drives have been performing., Since the day I received the 4 of them they have been in a raid 5 array and are taxed 24x7 serving as DVR storage. I have two HDHR3 and I love to see if I can max thing out.

Cons: None. They are excellent drives for not being SSD'sc

Other Thoughts: About to setup 4 more in an external Sans Digital TR4M6G and I'm looking forward to benchmarking this configuration (again in raid 5). It'll be nice to have an external drive the crunches the gigs.

4 out of 5 eggsmassive drive

This review is from: Western Digital RE WD2000FYYZ 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Drive is massive. Ok write speeds. Awesome price

Cons: Very Noisy people on here are not kidding at all. Go fire up your old windows 98 system listen to the drive make all the clicking and rattling noise. That's how this drive sounds. This really worried me but It tested ok in every way we shall see it if holds for the length of the warranty

Other Thoughts: The NSA installs unremoveable Malware on all WD drives wish WD would give us a way to remove this.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Hard Drive

This review is from: Western Digital RE WD2000FYYZ 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Reliable. Stress tested all of them and ran extended tests using Western Digital's software. No failures, all performed excellently

Cons: Couple of minor quips.
1) They're noisy.
2) The screw holes on the bottom aren't tapped deep enough to accept a standard length screw. This was a PITA as they were being mounted in trays with tight tolerances in a rackmount NAS and the screws wouldn't seat down all the way making installation of the trays impossible. The old drives were WD RE 1TB, no problems. This was the first (and hopefully the only) time I've ever had to run to *HOME DEPOT* to install a hard drive.

2 out of 5 eggsMight Return

This review is from: Western Digital RE WD2000FYYZ 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Lots of space, read/write speed was about 150MB/s according to HDTune

Cons: This is a very veryyyyy noisynoisy drive when reading and writing to it. On top of that, the drive doesn't support AAM so I can't quiet it down. I'm thinking about returning it because the noise levels are starting to drive me crazy.

4 out of 5 eggsstorage

This review is from: Western Digital RE WD2000FYYZ 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Large capacity, 5yr warranty. It's meant for the long haul, 365 days, 24hrs a day grinding. We're talking data center stuff and if you like at home too. :)

Let your ssd do the fast quick writing back to forth for the os/applications but this thing is for storage and even scratch in raid or non raid.

Cons: None, you should know what you're getting.

Pros: fast seek times and fast speed

Cons: this was a very noisy drive. i have used them in small servers in the past, but this unit was extremely noisy. Had to get refund.

2 out of 5 eggsCharged Shipping for Failed Product!!

This review is from: Western Digital RE WD2000FYYZ 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Newegg had what I needed.

Cons: The hard drive I received failed immediately. This was suppose to be a brand new hard drive. Equipment can be faulty but I was charged extra shipping costs to send their failed product back to them so that it could be replaced. Plus, it has taken another 2 weeks for them to process this return and I still have not received the HD. That is not good customer service.

Other Thoughts: I will probably avoid using Newegg in the future.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer beware!

This review is from: Western Digital RE WD2000FYYZ 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Price
Storage capacity
Good average read/write speeds
5 Year Western Digital Warranty

Cons: Heat
Reliability
FAILURE TO HONOR WARRANTY

Other Thoughts: To fill a need for a project a QNAP TS-569L NAS and five Western Digital RE WD2000FYYZ 2TB 7200 RPM drives were purchased.  The drives and NAS worked well for the first month; however the NAS experience a failure of the RAID array around 50 days after it was initially setup.  First impression from the system logs was the NAS must have suffered some sort of hardware issue because it felt unlikely that there could be a failure of any of the five RAID edition drives so soon.  After working with QNAP and sending the NAS in for testing it was verified that there were no problems with the NAS.  After this was determined, testing began on all five Western Digital RE WD2000FYYZ 2TB drives.  Of the five drives purchased two failed Western Digital diagnostics.  That represents a 40% failure rate on RAID edition, enterprise-class drives which is, by itself, unacceptable but the problem only worsens from there.
An RMA was requested, and received, for both failed drives and both were subsequently shipped to Western Digital for replacement.  Both drives were packaged according to the guidelines furnished by Western Digital.  Each drive was placed in an anti-static bag; wrapped in one inch of bubble wrap; and placed in a box filled with Styrofoam peanuts in such a way that there was no contact between the two drives.  The contents of the package were declared a $500 value, also as instructed.  The drives were then sent via FedEx to Western Digital for warranty replacement.
Around ten days later I received a package from Western Digital.  Upon opening the box I was disheartened to find it contained only one hard drive.  To further confuse the issue the hard drive was neither the same model nor size of either drive that had been returned.  Two Western Digital RE WD2000FYYZ 2TB drives were sent for RMA and one Western Digital RE WD3000FYYZ 3TB drive was received in return.  At first I was merely confused but after I contacted Western Digital customer support I became concerned.  Although both drives were shipped in a single box under the same RMA, there is only a record of one drive having been received.  I submit that if the box arrived then both drives should have been marked as received, not one.  More frustrating is that screencaps were taken of the Western Digital diagnostics for both drives as they were tested, but no one at Western Digital seems to believe that both drive were returned for replacement.  The only piece of documentation I do not have, and apparently the one I need, is a video of myself placing both drives in the box, sealing the box, and shipping the box.  Repeated calls to Western Digital have proved useless.  If you are considering purchasing Western Digital hard drives please consider this your warning if you are basing part of your decision on the five year warranty.
