Pros: - Large capacity but with a caveat (see thoughts).
- Began failing during the Newegg return period!(?)

Cons: reliability shaky at best

Other Thoughts: After a week, one of the two drives have acceptable S.M.A.R.T. logs. Within a week sector reallocation started on one of them. The data was saved when recovered from checkdisk but renamed and difficult to identify where it came from. Good thing it's a redundant backup drive and it really doesn't matter in this case. However, most buyers aren't in IT... this just should not happen with this frequency (yes, I read the reviews first).

Replaced it with another... to be continued.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine in my 2011 WHS Server

Pros: The drive came well packaged - in a layer of bubble wrap, that was in a box filled with packing peanuts. About as good as you can package it, I think. The drive has been working fine as a general storage drive in my server. I'm using it as part of the general storage on the server using Stablebit DrivePool in WHS 2011.

Cons: This isn't the fastest drive out there, and it will put itself to sleep when not in use. Sometimes there are short pauses when I try to access files on my server, but that is OK for home use, as most of the time my server is idle.

Other Thoughts: Once the drive spins up, it is plenty fast for my needs. Overall, I'm happy with the drive and it works just as expected.

Pros: One worked.

Cons: One didn't work. The second unit started clicking as soon as I powered up the computer. Windows reported a cyclic redundancy problem. RMA'd for an exchange.

Other Thoughts: I've had hard drives by all manufacturers fail with use over the years but the only two that were DOA were Western Digital.

Pros: Didn't get to try it.

Cons: Put it into a new build as a secondary storage drive. BIOS and Windows recognized it, but the computer would lock up any time the device tried to read or write. WD Diagnostics showed too many errors to finish testing.

Pros: Can't say much as i didn't even get to try it yet

Cons: Can't say much as i didn't even get to try it yet...but it did fail to work

Other Thoughts: after installing this HDD, the comp initially recognized it. I followed an instruction from a youtube video that was actually produced by Western Digital about WD Caviar Green HDD (thought i lucked out that they had this). I format the HDD and setup it up to work as a normal HDD (instructed by WD video). After all that, I rebooted by computer and the HDD was no longer recognized... I double and triple checked my cables, which worked on recognizing other HDDs. Guess this HDD died on me just like that...Not sure what could have possibly caused the HDD to die within those sequences, as i did nothing but restart the comp, but it did... I'm pretty annoyed but requested a replacement. Hope the new one brings me no hardship...

Pros: product arrived promptly, well packed and with no issues.
Formated windows 7 and worked perfectly.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I wish New Egg could post the total sales figures for their products. By doing so I could put the negative reviews in a numerical perspective and not be so intimidated ordering a product. Being said, I just wanted to post a positive review. People are much more inclined to post a review if they had a poor experience. If I knew that 10,000 hardrives had been sold then 100 negative reviews wouldn't be so intimidating.

Pros: Nice paperweight

Cons: DOA. Tested on two different PCs and DVR. Will not initialize on DVR or Windows 7. Failed WD's proprietary software checks, namely the Write Zeros test. WD solution is to "replace drive."

Other Thoughts: Stay away from this garbage based on personal experience and that of other customers.

Pros: Previous WD hard drive purchases have proven reliable.

Cons: Failed to initialize! My disk arrived with too many bad sectors as per WD Data Lifeguard Diagnosis. Quality assurance missed this one! Previous WD hard drive purchases have proven reliable.

Pros: It's 1.5 TB! It's cheap!

Cons: Died after powering up only once. CRC errors - could not format, etc. etc. RMA'd for 2nd day delivery of a new drive from Western Digital.

Other Thoughts: Still a good deal if you're willing to put up with the inconvenience of maybe having to return it directly to the manufacturer for replacement.
