Available in capacities up to 2 TB, WD RE4-GP SATA hard drives offer data-hungry organizations massive capacity with significant power savings and lower cost of ownership compared to competitors' standard enterprise-class drives. These drives are designed with WD GreenPower Technology™ to deliver power savings as the primary attribute and are equipped with 64 MB cache, dual processors, and IntelliPower™, a fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate, and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance.

Faster
Massive 64 MB cache, dual processors, and increased areal density yield twice the processing power which results in up to 25 percent performance improvement over the previous generation.

Greener
Improvements in our power-conserving technologies - IntelliSeek™, IntelliPark™, and IntelliPower™- deliver improved power consumption over our previous generation of WD RE-GP drives.

Improved rotary vibration tolerance
Optimized drive mechanics, system characterization, and process validation yields unmatched performance in high vibration environments.

Lower total cost of ownership
Large data-hungry financial institutions and web service providers can save up to $10 savings per drive per year in electricity costs (U.S). A large data center with 10,000 drives could realize up to $100,000 in savings per year.

24x7 reliability
With 1.2 million hours MTBF, these drives have the highest available reliability rating on a high-capacity drive.

IntelliPower
A fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate, and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance. Additionally, drives with WD GreenPower Technology consume less current during start up allowing more drives to spin up simultaneously resulting in faster system readiness.

IntelliSeek
Calculates optimum seek speeds to lower unnecessary power consumption, noise, and vibration.

IntelliPark
Delivers lower power consumption by automatically unloading recording heads during idle to reduce aerodynamic drag, and by disengaging read/write channel electronics.

Active Power Management
Drives with WD GreenPower Technology monitor the work load and automatically invoke idle mode whenever possible to further reduce unnecessary power consumption. Drive recovery time from idle mode is less than one second, providing seamless power management between the drive and the host controller.

StableTrac™
Secures the motor shaft at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking during read and write operations.

RAID-specific time-limited error recovery (TLER)
Pioneered by WD, this feature prevents drive fallout caused by the extended hard drive error-recovery processes common to desktop drives.

Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward (RAFF™)
Optimizes operation and performance when the drives are used in vibrationprone multi-drive systems such as rackmounted servers.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE

Pros: was able to load windows 10

Cons: Over 200 bad sectors found using S.M.A.R.T and over 14,000 Hours of active power use which is ridiculous, this drive shouldn't have even made the referb bin but the trash can. Drive also hangs frequently, sometimes taking a full 20 minutes to recover from running a simple task like opening task manager and is loud as hell. The drive is constantly active at a 100% drive use but with zero data transfer and when it does transfer data from files its speed fluctuated from 1kb/s-and up erratically.

Other Thoughts: better just to fork out the extra 20$ and get a brand new drive

1 out of 5 eggsvery short lifespan

Pros: Worked okay, at least for a few months.

Cons: After about six months I started getting read errors, Soon after that the drive began to cut out without warning; a reboot would make it show up again; even SMART tech didn't warn me about the imminent failure. An overnight scan turned up bad sectors that couldn't be repaired. Eventually refused to have anything on the drive without messing up.

Other Thoughts: I had bought this so I could use it for the main backup drive after replacing the OS drive with an SSD. Thankfully I have much of what I had on there (videos and games largely) backed onto externals, but it was a real pain to reinstall what I needed back onto another drive after I replaced this one.

Guess I should have sprung for something that wasn't refurbed.

4 out of 5 eggsget what you pay for & luck of the draw

Pros: 2tb wd black hd

Cons: All refurbished hard drives are only wiped then resold & nothing is replaced on it unless it says factory refurbished.

Other Thoughts: IF you want 5 or more yrs worry free use then buy a new wd black hard drive.
These are server hd & pulled about 3 months before warranty runs out.
I have 3 wd 2tb black hd that I bought new for my 2 desktops & 1 for backup that are 7 yrs old & still going.
I got 2 of these 2 tb refurbished wd blacks on sale for $25.00 ea that had 3 months left on 5yr warranty so I'm hoping to get a year or more use out of them if not I knew what I was getting when I bought them.
AS for the hrs of use that they have run or have left on them IT'S THE LUCK OF THE DRAW and you have about 3 months warranty left if they don't when you get them.

1 out of 5 eggsRefurbished Junk

Pros: Cheap... Thats it

Cons: Bought it in February has only been used lightly in a system that doesnt see much use, just died last week, drive not recognized by the system. Tried it in an external dock as well, it won't spin up, just makes a grinding and clunking sound.

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive 2/19/2015 and the manufacture date on the sticker on the drive shows 25 July 2010!!! They sold me a five year old refurb?? I have had some good luck with refurbished products, but they were all generally within a year of manufacture, customer returns, small manufacturing defects that were fixed, etc. But when i installed this drive i didn't realize i was getting a five year old piece of hardware to begin with.

Of course they won't do anything to replace it since it was a refurb and now i have to buy another new drive, so overall there was no savings here.

I will say that i generally use WD drives, Black or Green, or the Red's in my NAS and server, and i have yet to have a failure of a new drive, but this refurb was a gamble that just didn't pay to make.

Pros: Price

Cons: Reliability

Other Thoughts: Bought two. Both died within 6 weeks of each other, the first less than a year old, the second a week over.
