what is meant by a "bare drive"?

No manufacturer retail box, paperwork, cables, or screws.  Just the drive in an anti-static bag that is then packed in a box.  You can go to the manufacturer's web site for installation and warranty information.  It has the same warranty retail or bare drive.

Accepted Answer

No, this is a standard rotating hard drive.  A solid state drive (SSD) with 1 TB capacity will cost well over $500 at the current going rate.  On Newegg SSDs are in their own category, under Computer Hardware -> Storage Devices -> SSDs.

Is this drive compatible with a Dell Latitude E6530?

The drive is a standard SATA drive.  It will work in any machine that has a SATA controller, including the Dell Latitude E6530.  You should confirm with Dell that the Latitude E6530 can support a 2.5" standard SATA drive.  Unless there is something especially strange about the Dell Latitude E6530, it should work with this drive just fine.

It should fit without issue. The original HHD in the Satellite is a 2.5" 5400rpm drive. It should be a straight swap. You may want to look into a solid state drive though.

No, this is a standard hard disk drive with moving parts etc.; You would have to search specifically for SSD or solid state drive on the Newegg Web site.

SSDs are great as long as they can store as much as standard disk drives. Often SSD is used in combo with disk drive to speed up start up etc.

Is this compatible with my Dell Inspirion 15 (N5040) Laptop?

It appears your Dell laptop can accept a standard 2.5" SATA drive, so this should work with it.  Please note that replacing any internal component in a laptop can be a bit tricky, but if you are very careful and pay attention to details, it's relatively easy with the right tools.  Do a google search for "dell inspiron 15 n5040 hard drive removal" and you will find a great video on YouTube by Parts-People that will walk you through the process step by step.  Hope this helps.

Hello Everyone, I am new to this site and replacing drives but will this be compatible with the new ps4?

I can state that it is compatible with the PS3, I up graded mine with this drive, and yes it is within spec for the PS4 and should work without a problem. Do not forget to go to Sony support to download the firmware to format the drive and install the PS4 system. The firmware will need to be installed on a thumb-drive at least 1gb in size. Good luck.

I've had a terrible experience with this WD Blue notebook drive.  It goes to sleep almost instantly as part of its power saving "features."  In frustration, I finally filled it with back up data and sealed it in a static-free bag and placed it in the back of a desk drawer.  About once every two months I update the back up data.  It's a miserable drive for every day use when attached to a system.

Anyway.  My suggestion is that the power saving "features" might be causing Windows to stop seeing the drive and there mak be other wake-up "features" that are not functioning properly, either at the HDD level or with Win10 being very new still and just losing track of the drive when it goes to sleep.

To answer your question more directly: "No.  There are no drivers to install/update."  All such drivers are automatically incorporated.

I saw a reference a while back that mentioned Western Digital having some sort of software that can be installed (Windows-only, as I recall) that manages the sleep/energy saving "features" of their drives, but I was unable to find it on their website or get Western Digital tech to respond to my questions.

Yes, an internet search will show you that the Blue drives are known for this sleep "feature."  That's why I will never own one again.  Just a miserable waste of money and disappointment.

will this drive work on a system that runs at 3.0Gb/s?

Yes.  I use mine on WinXP systems installed on SATA II (3 GB/s) mobos.  I've also installed it into external enclosures and it works over USB 2 & USB 3 as well as eSATA II connections.  However, I am vastly disappointed with its response time.  When playing music back (for one example), the HDD goes "to sleep" while a song plays, then takes a second or two to wake & spin up to play the next song.  When listening to live music especially, this is annoying beyond description when it constantly interrupts the flow of music in mid-note.  When accessing folders and files, the same sleep delay can cause folders and file loading to hand.  The longer I own this HDD, to more enraged I am at its behavior.  Currently, I bought another HDD for every day use, then filled this one with back up data and placed it in a closet until I need the back up data.  It is useless for every day use.  I can't even imagine having an operating system or applications installed on this drive.  Use a WD Black or HGST 7200 rpm HDD instead; I do and they have none of these issues.

I'd like some help figuring out will this HDD work well if at all with my Acer Aspire V3 551g-X419? The current WD HDD that came with the laptop (WD7500BPVT) is no longer working. The RPM in both HDDs is the same, but I'm not sure if the motherboard will support 6Gb/s. Please and thank you.

The data transfer rate is the maximum supported rate of transfer.  They're fully backwards-compatible, so putting a faster drive into a slower system will only cause it to operate at the slower speed, like plugging a USB 3.0 drive into a USB 2.0 port.

You should have no problem using this drive, unless the drive that originally came with your laptop was a smaller-than-standard form factor.
