5 out of 5 eggsUsing 16 in Network Video Recorder

This review is from: WD Se WD4000F9YZ 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Datacenter Capacity HDD

Pros: Reliable

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Started purchasing a couple of these a month about a year ago. Have 16 running in a NVR and haven't had a single issue.

1 out of 5 eggsBad sectors everywhere

This review is from: WD Se WD4000F9YZ 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Datacenter Capacity HDD

Pros: 4TB

Cons: 2/4 drives had bad sectors in three days.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't buy these. Western Digital warranty support is painful, and I don't like that I need to pay shipping to get my defective hardware replaced.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks, but one DOA?

This review is from: WD Se WD4000F9YZ 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Datacenter Capacity HDD

Pros: Using five 4TB's inside Synology DS1513+ in RAID 6 for business use. My performance has been good so far. After over 2333 hours of usage, still no errors reported through extended SMART tests.

Tested: Two USB and one ethernet simultaneous file reads and writes. The NAS is performing at over 200 MB/s for both read and write.

Cons: Received one DOA. Also, we had to pay to ship the drive to WD. However, it was replaced, which took about 10 days time. Honestly, this is the first DOA I've ever received (and I've been ordering drives for many years). All drives were packed together, so it have been something with that particular drive.

Other Thoughts: Honestly, compare prices. For a NAS, the Red's had been good for us and lasted years without problems. We chose this drive for the comparable pricing, long warranty, and the construction/vibration technology for our site.

3 out of 5 eggsEnterprise only if you can't divide by 10

This review is from: WD Se WD4000F9YZ 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Datacenter Capacity HDD

Pros: cheap for an enterprise drive, which it's not

Cons: Specifications state 10 in 10^15 URE. That's 1 in 10^14, so it's really a consumer-level drive, not an enterprise drive, which are recognizable with UREs of 1 in 10^15 or better. Are they targetting the math illiterate?

5 out of 5 eggsgreat drives

This review is from: WD Se WD4000F9YZ 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Datacenter Capacity HDD

Pros: These drives have proven extremely reliable. I bought 5 at once. Not one DOA. The run a little warmer than 1TB RE drives I upgraded from, but just a couple degrees. I have 4 in raid5 setup. I always keep an extra drive as a cold spare. I had one drive die a few months ago and I was glad I had the spare handy. My replacement was at my door step in about 10 days. This is why I buy enterprise drives. WD seems to handle the warranties much quicker.

Cons: Price

Other Thoughts: Even with a cold spare on hand running drives of this capacity in raid5 is risky business. It took 19 hours to rebuild the array and luckily no other drive failed.

4 out of 5 eggsGood balance of Price and Perf

This review is from: WD Se WD4000F9YZ 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Datacenter Capacity HDD

Pros: Great to have 5yr Warranty, good capacity and reasonable performance

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The Re is great but I'm not hammering the drive with a lot of storage request so this seemed better balance. the Red Pro seems like it's a bit quicker.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Hard disks for NAS

This review is from: WD Se WD4000F9YZ 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Datacenter Capacity HDD

Pros: Bought 5 of those for a QNAP TS-670 Pro. They look reliable, are fast (I made a RAID 10 setup with hot spare) and I cannot see any issue with those.

Cons: Not anymore used to hear disks spinning since I use SSD, but they aren't that bad :P

5 out of 5 eggsNAS drive

This review is from: WD Se WD4000F9YZ 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Datacenter Capacity HDD

Pros: for a DS412+ synology.
works perfectly no hiccups.
I never really understood the difference between the enterprise line and the regular line (really--but do understand the concept).

Cons: price
