5 out of 5 eggsQuiet as a butterfly's wings and just as reliable.

This review is from: WD SE WD2000F9YZ 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Hard Drive

Pros: Bought four of these to rebuild my RAID 5, they're significantly quieter, measure respectable read/write speeds, and after 3 months of operation or so have not failed me a bit. The RAID seems happier with these drives. Buying another one for backup for the inevitable.

Cons: They taste horrible. Even with cheese, horrible.

5 out of 5 eggsquality drives back

This review is from: WD SE WD2000F9YZ 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Hard Drive

Pros: comparable to WD Black; priced better....faster and cheaper than the standard Black drives. seems quieter also..performs like the black drives used to

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: Have always been a fan of WD Black drives- have never had 1 fail to the point data wasn't retrievable. Lately the black drives seem to be having issues. the last 1 (1yrs old with light use) I sent thru WD for rma, they sent me a blue drive for the replacement...very disappointed- it is sketchy at best (noisey and doesn't always spin up)- wont keep anything important on it. This drive is cheaper and has considerably better continuous read and write speeds, at least on my system (write/read both about 130 mbs on LARGE files)....I was about to give up on WD

4 out of 5 eggsGreat drive

This review is from: WD SE WD2000F9YZ 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Hard Drive

Pros: Great spindle drive. Most are long lasting, fast, and speedy.

Cons: I had one die on me after 2 months of use on my workstation. This surprised me, as I've been purchasing WD Black drives for servers for over 10 years. A few only died close to the end of the 5 year warranty period. Most live long enough that the storage size isn't useful any more. So I placed a lot of trust in using a single WD Black drive on my workstation, and it died. I shoulda-coulda-woulda raided it. The morale of the story is to never trust a spindle drive, no matter how awesome they are. (Minus one egg due to my own dumb frustrations.)

5 out of 5 eggsFast and Reliable

This review is from: WD SE WD2000F9YZ 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Hard Drive

Pros: Fast, Quiet, Reliable Drive. 5 Year Mfr Warranty (NICE!)

Cons: As always with hard drives, the drive only yields an actual storage capacity of 1.86 TB, not a full 2 TB.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these WD SE 2 TB drives to install in a NexStarMX and configure it in a RAID0. I use it exclusively to back up my home server.

I installed a USB 3.0 PCI-Express card in my home server to connect the NexStarMX and the speeds are incredible. I was using a USB 2.0 NexStar3 with a 2 TB drive and using Backup Exec the backup was running at 1,800 MB/min and taking 7.5+ hours to back up over 800 GB of data. With the NexStarMX connected using USB3.0, the same back up runs at over 6,000 MB/min and completes in a little over 2 hours. A huge improvement and I am very satisfied with the results of this upgrade.

I've been using these WD SE 2 TB drives for about 5 months now with absolutely no issues.

I would definitely recommend this hard drive and give it 5 eggs for it speed and performance.

On a side note, I have to commend Newegg for listening to their customers. A year ago I purchased 5 x WD RE 1 TB drives and they were shipped in the typical styrofoam egg crate wrapped in bubble wrap. Long story short, 3 of those drives were DOA. When I ordered 2 of these WD SE 2 TB drives, they each arrived in a small cardboard box tucked into their very own bubble wrap "envelope." Nice to see Newegg made the adjustment and came up with a much more reliable way to ship hard drives. Keep it up Newegg and you will have a customer for life!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks As Expected

This review is from: WD SE WD2000F9YZ 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Hard Drive

Pros: Fairly priced and as quick as any mechanical drive can be expected to be.

Instead of the consumer grade external backup drives with a puny 1 year warranty, I bought this enterprise drive with a 5 year warranty as a backup device for my workhorse computer. Mated it with a Startech SATA-1-2-3 with eSATA and USB 3.0 enclosure. Max transfer rate was about 80MB/s over USB 3.0. Backed up about 220GB in about an hour and 30 minutes, so I cannot complain.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: There was the equivalent of an information strip search to get order verification to release this part of my order to ship, totaling $134. The $50 enclosure sailed right through. WTH?!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the Price

This review is from: WD SE WD2000F9YZ 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Hard Drive

Pros: Fast, quiet and very reliable. Had to pick up a second one of these bad boys for my LAN box. Great for the price and even goes on sale rather frequently. Definitely a good pick

Cons: Honestly none that I can think of

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Easy to install and lasts a long time.

3 out of 5 eggsFollow up again

This review is from: WD SE WD2000F9YZ 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Hard Drive

Pros: Big storage
Fast SATA 6 read and write speed

Cons: After 3 months of use, this drive has become noisy. It has a deep humming sound coming from it, and there is a audible clack clack sound coming from it. Looks like it is failing, which is very unusual since all my other western Digital drives, that are older then this one, are still going strong and silent.

Other Thoughts: Looks like a bad drive afterall.
