5 out of 5 eggsQuick & Quiet Drive

Pros: Drive is Quiet despite what others are saying. Hey if it is loud then return it for an exchange because there is definitely something wrong with yours.

Cons: None

2 out of 5 eggsBad in RAID

Pros: Perform well while they work

Cons: Have 5 in a RAID 5 array and I've had 6 fail in the past 3 months. each time having to RMA them to WD. RMA process is nice but I'm tired of the stress. Would not recommend as two of the replacements I got from WD have failed.

Other Thoughts: Sucks paying a ton of money for "server class" drives but times like this I wish I did. These might be considered a step above but this failure rate is beyond unacceptable.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer, we are sorry to hear you had a bad experience with your products. Please note that WD Black hard drives are not recommended for use in RAID environments utilizing Enterprise HBAs and/or expanders and in multi-bay chassis, as they are not designed for, nor tested in, these specific types of RAID applications. For all Business Critical RAID applications, please consider the WD Enterprise or WD Red Hard Drives that are specifically designed with RAID-specific, time-limited error recovery (TLER), are tested extensively in 24x7 RAID applications, and include features like enhanced RAFF technology and thermal extended burn-in testing. 5 out of 5 eggsWD Quality

Pros: Drive is being used as a secondary HDD device in a Dell Precision Mobile Workstation in conjunction with an Msata device as the OS boot drive. WD drive works flawless and fast for file transfers and backups along with streaming movies through my network to apple tv, thrilled with my purchase.

Cons: None....its WDC who is surprised at this

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Fast

Pros: A big improvement over the failed drive i took out of my dell laptop. Laptop is running much faster. L:ast drive was damaged when I dropped my laptop.

Cons: I have read that this drive runs hot but I always use a cooling pad anyway so thats not a issue for me.

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend this as a replacement especially since they seem to be on sale often and when they are they are the same price as a blue drive which runs at 5400.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price!

Pros: Price, speed

Cons: Noisy

Other Thoughts: I can't complain about this drive so far, hopefully I will never have to either. I did read another reviewer state that the drive is a bit noisy. I can now confirm that. It's not noisy in a clunky way, it just hisses. I'm not sure, but it might be due to the size of the disc or maybe the fact that it's 7500 vs 5400. Either way, for the price, you can't beat it.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and Loud

Pros: * Fast access and transfer speeds. Above and beyond any other laptop hdd.
* Keeps its operating temps stable.
* Drive tested perfect and had no issues with partitions or windows.

Cons: * loud, loud, loud. Vibrates the side of my laptop when its really pushing. I took this entire laptop apart again just to make sure it wasn't a loose cable or screw making noise.
* Takes way too long to spin down, significantly longer than most laptop hdd's

Other Thoughts: * It was shipped in a plain newegg box inside a pouch of bubble wrap. price/performance/capacity for laptop hdd's is a good blend.
* Would have liked more dampening to reduce vibrations, it is a black series so I probably should have expected that.

5 out of 5 eggsKnow What You Are Talking About

Pros: Drives have worked great for what they are designed for.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: To the guy who rated these at 1 egg! These drives are not designed for use in Raid arrays. WD has specially modified units (RE designation) for Raid! The standard Black drives are not for RAID.

5 out of 5 eggsHard Drive

Pros: Good hard drive, large, one of the reasons I buy WD is for their reliability. Very good price from newegg as well as fast shipping!

Cons: Its not a solid state, so it will fail, but not for a while so no complaints.
