5 out of 5 eggsLenovo T61 Drive Replacement

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2500BEKX 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Easy swap with a T61, replaced the oem 160GB drive that was failing with this 250GB. So far so good, it's a bit faster and more storage than I need for this old back-up laptop.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2500BEKX 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Decent drive for the price. Quick customer service (But that is all NewEgg).

Cons: First one that I received came with errors.

Other Thoughts: Always wary of buying bare drives, but NewEgg saved the day by quick replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsFast notebook drive

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2500BEKX 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I caught this drive on sale for 69.99, now the price has doubled. This drive is fast compared to other laptop hard drives. Until you compare a 5900 rpm drive to this 7200 you can't imagine. Highly recommend if you're stuck on wanting a mechanical laptop drive.

Cons: none so far

5 out of 5 eggsWD is great just don't stray from the Black Series

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2500BEKX 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Fast, large cache, great energy efficiency, and an exceptional warranty.

Better than any other series in the WD line-up. I don't roll with raptors and don't care 2.

Cons: None... maybe the price but a heck of a lot cheaper vs an SSD choice. The price is worth it when you consider Black Series drive have a 5-year warranty.

Other Thoughts: I first purchased an SSD for drive replacement but had nothing but trouble. It was locking up my computer and rebooting it coming out of sleep mode. Then, I started having read/write errors. So, I sent it back to Newegg where Newegg really took care of me.

Then, after I got my RMA approved I went ahead and purchased this drive. A solid choice WD BLACK $115 cheaper and with just enough performance to keep my spoiled personality in line.

Stay away from the Blue Series. I work as a Support Technician and you wouldn't believe how many Blue Series drives we have sent off... I know out of a few hundred there will be a bad drive... I have just had way better luck with Black Series drives and they have a warranty to assure lasting performance.

Reds don't perform that well either if you are looking for a NAS WD go for any series above the Red. Those are enterprise drives so they should run faster and last longer. Reds are consumer level NAS so they are suppose to be affordable. Read too many negative reviews to put my money on it.

Hope this helps! Best of Luck!

5 out of 5 eggsAll Drives Working Fine

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2500BEKX 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Fast drive for "system" or "boot" drive in my servers.

Cons: Smaller 16MB cache size relative to the 64MB cache size in WDC Black 3.5 inch drives, but that is a technical "nit pick" and not really an operational issue in my own experience.

Other Thoughts: I recently bought 5 drives (limit on a Newegg special) to replenish my shelf stock. All drives tested fine when they were received. I have periodically pulled drives from this stock for "test" systems and never encountered any issues yet.

I will continue to buy WDC Black laptop drives for my various "system" needs.

Small form factor does require an additional mounting bracket (2.5 to 3.5 mounting) in non-laptop systems, but most brackets will permit multiple 2.5 inch laptop drives in the same space as a single 3.5 inch drive. There are times when using a SSD is just plain "overkill" and a USB key isn't a good or wise choice, but a laptop drive is "just right".
