5 out of 5 eggsWorks great! UPDATE(2016/Jan): Drive just died, click click click

Pros: Silent, low power, reliable (so far). The small form factor and self-powered aspects are pluses as well.

Cons: None.
Update(2016/Jan): I used it a few times (maybe 4) and had it unplugged sitting on my desk. I used it just now for another Time Machine backup and it started to act weird. It would unmount spontaneously. Then after unplugging and plugging back in the USB port to power cycle, it just clicks now and no longer mounts!! This is unbelievable.

Other Thoughts: I use this drive to provide Time Machine backups for the 3 Macs in the house. Two of my Macs have USB2 ports, so these ports dominate the write speeds to the disk. Even though the TM backups took 20 or 30 min each, these were the first time backups which amounted to 60-90GB. Incremental backups will be much quicker. Pretty good drive, prefer WD over Seagate. And the price was right. :o)
Update(2016/Jan) As I stated in the cons section, it started to act up when running TM. TM first calculated a backup size of 10GB, then after it auto-unmounted and plugging back in, the second time TM calculated 110GB for the backup. Strange. Then unmounted and clicking proceeded. This is the 2nd Western Digital HD that has failed on me, and I dont even use them very much. Ridiculous.

5 out of 5 eggsAll working fine.

Pros: I just wanted all to know I purchased three of these, re-formatted from MAC to NTFS and all three are working fine, no failures, odd noises, et cetera.
As I only had these for a week, I can not vouch for long term usage.
It was at a great price, $ 29.99 each. Heavy and seemingly well constructed.

Cons: None, except I should have purchased more :-)

Other Thoughts: None.

3 out of 5 eggsFollow-up

Pros: Small, metal enclosure. Second one not DOA.

Cons: First one was DOA.

Other Thoughts: I stand by my original review. A drive that refuses to mount while emitting noticeable clicking noises is obviously defective. WD's response implied that maybe the clicking sound is normal, which it is definitely not, and clearly should have been picked-up during the "refurbishment" process. FYI. a dead drive cannot be reformatted if it won't mount.

Pros: This drive is great for storage and for doing backups and for the price its a good deal.
The case is made from aluminium and not cheap plastics.
I have 2 of these drives 1 for the PC and 1 for the MAC and thinking about getting another one.

I have purchased 2 of these and haven't had any problems.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Remember that this drive is formatted for a MAC and can't be used on a PC until it is reformatted.
Maybe this help some people from giving bad reviews on this drive.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Small and cheap. Aluminium frame with metal cover.

Cons: DOA. Problem was obvious as soon as I plugged it in; click, click, click. Would not install / mount; just I/O error messages. Tried on a couple of different machines and with different USB cables. You'd think that actually testing the drive would be part of WD's refurbishment process. Guess not. Waste of time and resources. NewEgg was very good with return process.

Other Thoughts: I'll be sure to avoid WD "refurbished" from now on.
