5 out of 5 eggsGreat so far

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD4003FZEX 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: I love WD BLACK hard drives. I have had several. I had three, 1TB Black drives in my PC before buying this 4TB WD Black drive.

I just did a quick HDTune test:

At the moment I just stuck it on the top of my case, it is a regular internal SATA hookup port, but just located on the top of my case, out in the open.

It runs quiet and cool so far (35C after the three tests, 31C before), same as the drives inside case, but I have several large, slow, quiet case fans so my case is well ventilated.

Eventually I will take doors off and install it permanently inside. Good purchase, and I am confident the HD will last several years.

I may buy another and then have 11TB total. That should last a while.

Cons: It wasn't exactly cheap, but hey, you get what you pay for. One thing not to skimp on is where you store all your precious data. No cheap HDD for me.

1 out of 5 eggsnot reliable

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD4003FZEX 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: size and performance if he's not defective

Cons: dead after 3 month After a couple of weeks it started clicking. A few days later it completely died .got rma at wd, took 3 weeks to get a replacement refurbished piece of &$&*% who died after 3 days!!! still fighting with them (WD)
they don't know how to satisfy you properly as we deserve

Other Thoughts: I'm not the only one that had this happen. There are a couple of other reviews that had the same problem.

5 out of 5 eggsBlack Drives Are Best

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD4003FZEX 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: -One of the fastest consumer drive lines out there.
-Quiet.
-Not super hot, in spite of performance.
-Reliable.
-Good warranty.

Cons: -Price is higher but with good reason.

Other Thoughts: I already had a Black drive that I was using games on and purchased this to store my YouTube video projects on and to use for capture and editing. I've worked with most of the consumer hard drives available today and unless you want to spend a lot of money for a small VelociRaptor drive, these are the best performers you can get. They're also quiet and run relatively cool considering the performance and have a great warranty. I've had great luck with these. They cost more but are well worth it.

3 out of 5 eggsWD 4TB Black OEM Drives

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD4003FZEX 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: I purchased WD Black Drives for several years and had excellent results. All the previously purchased drives have been running without issue for four years now. Issuing 3 eggs for now until I'm able to receive the drives and test them.

Cons: The issue I have now is that I purchased four 4 TB drives and three of them would not work. I sent them back via RMA and now NewEgg tells me the bezel is damaged and cannot be covered. I seriously doubt the bezel could be damaged through the thick bubble wrap and packaging, but they're investigating the last two drives. Hopefully, I'll get something back soon. The one drive that did work makes a loud noise when it spins up. It makes me think a platter may be out of alignment which leads me to think that this drive may not last long. This is not my usual experience with WD or NewEgg, so hopefully, this is a one time fluke.

Other Thoughts: I've read some negative reviews of users buying OEM drives. I'm wondering if some of them are being sold as new but are actually refurbished. NewEgg doesn't ship OEM drives the same as regular off the shelf drives (Manufacture Packaging), which could lead to issues with the drives after shipping. I would like to maintain my relationship as a customer with NewEgg and hope this does not become a recurring issue.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality and Quantity

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD4003FZEX 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: - Big and fast
- WD quality
- Black series
- Excellent performance

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Ive used nothing but WD drives in all my builds for the last 20 years or so. To date, I've only had 1 fail after about 6 years using that drive. I wont consider any other brand at this point. The Black series drives are outstanding for gamers or people using their PC for general purposes. In my opinion, you cant go wrong with a Black series drive of any size.

If you arent sure about using a SSD as a boot drive and for some strange reason you are still leaning towards a HDD as your main system drive, go with a WD Black. It is still a nice choice. If you want a nice size drive for general use along with an SSD boot drive, this drive is perfect. 4TB is an awful big drive for storing applications, games, and data. I cant think of a better drive than this one.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD4003FZEX 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Rock Solid Equipment.

Cons: Not found any yet.

Other Thoughts: Started building computers for both business and home users in 1990. At that time it was accepted that a 20% failure rate was to be expected. Soon learned that better quality equipment kept customers much happier. Settled on Seagate HDD's because at that time they lasted the longest. By the turn of the century failure rates were growing to an unacceptable level again and after some trial and error made a transition to WD for all drives. Did raise the price of a computer by a small amount and as I provided on-site labor warranty across the state a cost reduction, not increase, was the actual result.

The Black series is all I've used since learning of them. Currently own and use 11 of the 4TB Black's. All but one are in mirrored pairs. Having installed nearly a hundred, am now processing a warranty replacement with WD. The drive has been in heavy use since late 2012. With spares in stock am able to ship mine back and wait for the replacement. In the past with older drives, have actually had them ship and bill for a new drive and refund the billed amount when they received the bad drive.

Anybody that blames WD for lost data should be re-thinking the concept of redundancy. With computers there is only one hard fast rule: Back it up or you will lose it! After all, they are nothing more than an electrical/mechanical device. The only thing that is certain about them is that they will eventually fail.

4 out of 5 eggsFunctioning As Expected

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD4003FZEX 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: This is not much of a review, but I wanted to report that the WD 4TB HD is working flawlessly after four months. It is loaded with about 300 4.7GB files and 50 or so 25GB files.
Mine is not too noisy and it sits on my desk.

Cons: Like many have said and I will repeat - it is very hot.

Other Thoughts: If it were in a case I would put a fan on it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as intended.

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD4003FZEX 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: No storage issues <running two of these drives in raid 1> Easy to install and config.

Cons: Runs hot, I personally recommending run this drives in a drive cage that has a fan blowing on them.

Other Thoughts: WD Black edition hard drives are some of the best on the market for sure. I own 10 or so Black edition drives for several years and never had to use the warranty on any of them. Use = Encoding/Photoshop.
