5 out of 5 eggsMechanically Fast... and Hot.

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Performance wise, these drives are beastly compared to the similarly spec'd drives on the market. 2TB of mechanical storage running at 7200RPM should be sufficient for any consistent data reads/writes. A surface format (NTFS Partition Scheme) of the drive over the SATA III interface took roughly 12 hours. Average reads and writes peaked at 130MB/s. Simultaneously reading and writing data to the drive (from multiple sources) averaged speeds of 55MB/s-60MB/s while running Windows 7. The drive functions fairly well when queuing up data reads/writes, and I suspect that the 64MB cache is responsible for this performance.

Cons: Heat and Weight. (See below for details)
DO NOT run this drive in any RAID configuration.

Other Thoughts: Heat dissipation is a concern. This drive is heavy, and when running at full load, it gets hot. I installed it into a Sony VAIO All-in-one Desktop PC (L Series). There isn't much room in the chassis of that computer. There is no airflow passing the drive, so heat becomes a major issue. The only remedy for this situation was to maximize the power-down modes available to the drive, as running it 24/7 under constant heat would lead to imminent failure, plus... it's hassle to install a drive into one of those PCs.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Very fast compared to other HDD,s 0.1ms response time most of the time under idle . Loads up the operating system fast which i like cuz of this i might not get a ssd cause this is fast enough!!

Cons: Kinda loud under heavy load not enough to bug me tho otherwise great.

4 out of 5 eggsFirst Build - Speedy

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Fast - compared to other hard drives I've had - reaching read and write speeds of 150 MB/s.
HUGE amount of space: 1.8 TB after allocation, it's larger than all storage devices I had before combined.

Cons: LOUD.
Not like a constant noise, but whenever it reads/writes, it makes a little ticking noise, so it's not the disk(s) spinning. But that's not reason it's loud.
The little ticking sounds are actually pretty big vibrations in which are amplified into extremely noticeable sounds by the computer case it's in. I had to suspend it in rubber bands and para-cord to dampen those sounds back to the little ticks.

Other Thoughts: After that, it's still a pretty good drive. Loading is no sweat for anything I throw at it. Plus, it actually looks pretty cool suspended in my case (although I should fix it a little if I want to put in fans in my case for a future upgrade). Sitting in idle, it hardly makes any noise at all, so there's no need to panic if you got the sound-proofing.
It is currently my main and only storage drive I'm using, but eventually I should upgrade to a SSD as a boot drive in the future.
My build:
-Gigabyte GA-F2A88X-D3H Motherboard
-AMD A10-7850k APU
-Dual HyperX Savage 8GB DDR3 2400 RAM (clocked at 2133)
-Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO cooler
-NZXT Source 220 case, black
-Corsair CX750M PSU
-WD Black 2 TB Hard Drive

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: It is fast and a WD so I know it is going to last a long time.

Cons: This isn't really a huge con but weird nonetheless so I am mentioning it. Every other drive I have ever used allows for the SATA cables with clips to "lock" on when connecting the cable. For some reason the area where the clip would lock on, on this drive is not long enough so my cable doesn't click on. I don't touch my tower much after installing new components but it bothers me that the SATA cable isn't clipped in and can just come loose.

5 out of 5 eggsFast

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Super fast, WD Black drives are very reliable, cheap compared to an SSD with 1/2 the capacity

Cons: Not as fast as an SSD but crazy fast for a mechanical drive

Other Thoughts: Installed along side an SSD to load games. System boots to an SSD and all the games are loaded onto the bigger drive from Steam. No complaints so far from a picky customer!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat hard drive for "budget" yet "quality" gaming

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: This hard drive has worked flawlessly. I've recently upgrade from a 4-year-old WD Green hard drive (1TB) that I feared would fail on me, as the transfer speeds went as low as 500kb/s. Upgrading to this allowed for me to have my games load faster, have more space along with higher FPS when recording gameplay, and doesn't kill my wallet like an SSD would. This is a must for budget gamers.

Cons: Can be noisy upon booting or major file transfers, but it's nothing that truly bothers me.

Other Thoughts: The delivery was on-time, however they accidentally sent it to my neighbors house instead of mine. That was no big deal because I was able to stop him just in time. All in all, I've purchased a few products from Newegg and I've received them within their estimated delivery dates every time.

4 out of 5 eggsfine but noisy

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Decent price and speed. Only had for a few days so obviously can say anything about quality.

Cons: Loud as some have commented. Even a Click clack every minute without use.

Other Thoughts: Might replace in a few years with large ssd (prices should keep falling) but for now I can deal with the noise.

5 out of 5 eggsWD Black 2T

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: It's a WD HDD. Bought on sale for $109.99

Cons: Maybe Price?

Other Thoughts: I have used nothing but WD HDD's for more years then I want to remember. Over these years I may have used a RMS 2 times. This covers everything from a WD 1T VR to other smaller HDD's. I just bought two WD HDD's 2T's to replace a driver that the warranty expired in 2012 and is still usable. The other one had it's warranty expire in 2014, also still usable. Because of there quality I would have no problem using a WD HDD for my OS drive. The best part is a 5 year warranty.
