5 out of 5 eggsPlenty of room

This review is from: WD Black 2TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD2003FZEX

Pros: 2 TB
Runs great

Cons: Possible Windows 7 Update issues may be related to this?

Other Thoughts: I run Windows 7 so far (Windows 10 eventually), the only Issue was the updates but that's resolved now

5 out of 5 eggsTrying as a replacement

This review is from: WD Black 2TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD2003FZEX

Pros: Not DOA
Faster than WD1001FALS

Cons: Sounds as bad as the drive it replaces.

Other Thoughts: Bought to replace 7-year-old WD1001FALS, which still works but don't want to push luck. WD2003FZEX drive is about %30 faster than 1001FALS. When new the 1001FALS was whisper quiet. Noise that usually signals immanent death seems to be common for WD2003FZEX.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks, but not impressed.

This review is from: WD Black 2TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD2003FZEX

Pros: Like the title says it came and worked properly, transferred my files over quickly.

Cons: When i put this in my rig and fired it up it started out by making a nasty winding up noise and i thought its probably because its brand new.
So i shut down my PC and the shutting off noise is even worse. Its very obnoxious in my opinion.
Its not only the first time you power this up.
It happens every time i turn my computer on and off. Even while I'm playing a game.
Not only that I have Newegg Premier so i requested TWO day service on a Tuesday. Didn't get the darn thing didn't come til Friday.

Other Thoughts: Wasn't expecting to experience this from Western Digital, even Newegg. Didn't meet my expectations from the reviews i read. I'm just happy I didn't spend more money on a WD HDD. 3 stars.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product that was very easy to install in older desktop PC with Windows 10

This review is from: WD Black 2TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD2003FZEX

Pros: Easy to install and work as my backup drive replacing a USB Passport drive by the same company. It works great.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely recommend to this to other folks.

5 out of 5 eggsGotta have 'em

This review is from: WD Black 2TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD2003FZEX

Pros: -Price
-Size
-Speed
-Hoping relaibility...

Cons: -None

Other Thoughts: -Hoping to get many hours of reliable data storage from the 2 I set up in a RAID 1. As I had to use an add on RAID card to get that capability with the M2 card I wanted for my OS drive, I cannot really benchmark the performance. I have added some latency to any result I would get with the additional hardware involved and the path to the drives.

5 out of 5 eggsJust a warning. Bare or OEM drives do NOT have a warranty from WD! This drive is listed as "bare" AKA OEM, so NO warranty!

This review is from: WD Black 2TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD2003FZEX

Pros: I have had excellent experiences with WD drives over the last 12 years. Only one has died. Solid performance for the money. This drive runs cooler, and a little quieter than larger WD Black drives.

Cons: NO warranty! This is a "bare" drive, A.K.A. OEM drive. Bare drives do NOT have a warranty from Western Digital.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely recommend WD Black drives. I have been very happy with my WD Black drives.

Remember, NO warranty for "bare" drives.

4 out of 5 eggsCan't go wrong

This review is from: WD Black 2TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD2003FZEX

Pros: Never can go wrong with more hard drive space.
Probably use this in my next build.

Cons: It is a little loud.
Takes a minute to access if you aren't using the files in the drive often.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid, fast drive...

This review is from: WD Black 2TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD2003FZEX

Pros: Nice drive...
While there are cheaper options, the Red Pro is also 7200 RPM's, the Black is for day to day heavy use, a cargo truck.
The Blue is a sub compact car, the Green a slightly larger compact car, and the Red a mid sized sedan, good for light use, but to move data around, get a Black or Enterprise.
Running about 105º F, with a few rumbling noises.
(Don't over tighten the screws holding the drive, leave them just a little loose (finger-tight), the noise will be greatly reduced, especially if there are rubber cushions between the drive and frame)
Get at least a 2 terabyte drive, the ones below are either reworked drives with capacity halved, (usually due to bad drive platters) or a Green drive in disguise...

I pulled a 750 gigabyte 7200 RPM OEM hard drive from 2009, the Black is about 40% faster.

I installed the operating system and migrated my data before installing.
To keep the system cool while doing this, I used a fan (system was at 100% processor, network, and disk drive, running very warm)

Cons: 3 hours to get the computer apart. Moderately technical (2009 20 inch iMac, 2.66 Mhz)
Replace the CMOS battery while you have it apart.

Other Thoughts: Western Digital needs to fix the Idle Time on the Red and Green Drives. The last few have been all over the road, 8 seconds, 300 seconds, and even turned off. Resetting the idle time, while not difficult, is very technical. (Boot to DOS, run WDIDLE3.EXE)
Black, Blue, and Enterprise drives do not suffer this problem.
