5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD1003FZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Pleasantly surprised as how smooth and thus quiet this drive is, compared to drives purchased several years ago.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Love that 5 year warranty!

2 out of 5 eggsBad luck with WD

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD1003FZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Wanting to find out what the pros are......

Cons: Man I am having no luck with WD drives. I now sit on 4 drives that have gone bad.

Two 750 Black drives have Uncorrectable Sector Counts.
One in the past was already returned for the same thing.
Both current 750 drives still within Warranty.

One 2 TB Green with Uncorrectable Sector Count.
Within Warranty.

And now my brand new 1 TB Black has Reallocated Sectors Count.
Within Warranty.

I have not started the RMA process with WD for the older two 750 blacks and single 2 TB green. Fingers crossed it goes smooth since I bought them here on Newegg and have receipts.

Of coarse NewEgg is replacing the brand new 1TB Black (because NewWgg rocks!!)

WD I hope you are as good at RMA as people say. :)

Other Thoughts: The bad drives will lock up my system. The information about the sectors comes from the SMART monitors.

My system is very nice new top of the line components and power supply.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid drives

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD1003FZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: These drives are SOLID! I have multiple WD Black drives of varying sizes in multiple computers, ranging in age from 1-6 years, and they are all rock solid.

Cons: I don't have more money to buy more of them.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD1003FZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Ordered two of these drives and they work awesome so far as i have always purchased WD drives over the years and they have never let me down..still have my first WD drive (black series) and one (green series) and they are still running fine to this day...thanks for the great drived WD.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: These are great drives and will continue using them..i know there will always be a bum drive somewhere as they are mass produced but i have not had one yet till this date and they have good read/write speeds especially when used in a RAID array.

5 out of 5 eggsFinally one for myself!

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD1003FZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: I got it @ -18 dollars off on top of the current discount @ a whopping 7.xx bucks with shipping and tax! Could I be any merrier? Probably!
I don't know who keep saying it's loud because to me, the only thing louder than any mechanical hard drive on my PC are the many high performance fans that I have to crank up as I live on the desert and don't have the luxury of cranking up the AC all the time.
This thing flies, I mean I thought my old generation Black Edition SATA II 3Gbps drive was fast, well this thing smokes it, and then some.

Cons: The only cons I got are that there was for the first time ever an issue with shipping, related to OnTrack. I never mind going the NewEgg Express Saver way, because I always gotta save up for what I wanna buy. I don't really know what really did happen, but point is, After opening a case with both Newegg and OnTrac, which according to OnTrac, the package was delivered on Monday @ 5:15pm, was a crock. My whole family was there all day long! Non of us saw a single delivery take place. I always notice the usual nice OnTrac lady honk and come on in letting me know my package is here. Any who, come Tuesday, around the after noon doing my business, all of a sudden I get that lurking feeling I turn around and sure enough it's OnTrac, the nice lady mind you. She didn't seem very jolly as usual, hope they didn't scold her. I got my package safe and sound, called off the missing package report from Newegg, and tested the drive. All is good. Got a call the next day from OnTrac saying they were gonna send the poor delivery driver to retrace their steps. I told em no need, they had delivered the package the day before.

TLDR: OnTrac has never caused me issues, but I understand there is problems sometimes. Just the other day Fedex delivered me some lady's shipment on what I could only guess were lingerie by the weight and feel of the box! Called em, sent it back, and they gave me my actual package finally. Mistakes happen people.

Other Thoughts: So after buying one of these for a client, I finally got one for myself. I triple tested it with multiple drive diagnostic suites, including western digital diagnostics. 3 hours of patience there lol and there were absolutely no errors or problems. Passed with flying colors. I am absolutely blown away at the performance increases they have manged to improve upon the previous generation of Black Edition drives. I still own a WD Black 640 GB Sata II 3 Gbps drive and that thing only read up to around 100+ and wrote to also around 100+ But this new one, seems to go well above the 400+ mark in reading of small file sizes and about 150-200+ in writing of small file sizes. This is of course in Megabytes per second. I was just so stunned. I knew I was being bottle-necked at the hard drive level, but I didn't realize it was by that much. Now pretty much installing and loading programs / games have improved significantly. WD has done a darn fine job in optimizing these drives. I would have gone for a VelociRaptor but for the price range, just stick to these, and save your money until the SSD prices tame down a little more.

I demoted my old WD 640 GB BLK Ed HDD to my now back up secondary storage drive. Funny thing is I still got around 1.5 - 2 years warranty left on it. and I don't see any signs of it giving out any time soon.

On a final note: If you're serious about what you do when it comes to computers, specially data, ALWAYS have backups. Be it flash drives, externals, or optical media. If it is that important, trust me it's well worth the investment. Oh and there's always the "cloud" online storage. Lastly if you go the route of multiple storage drives. Always run thorough diagnostics on them at least once a month, while doing quick diagnostic options more infrequently to make sure nothings amiss. I speak from past experience from my younger days once upon a time... Just my two cents.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD1003FZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Western Digital
Good price to capacity ratio

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have owned many, many HDDs over the years. I have owned all sorts of brands. Of all the brands I have owned, only one brand has NEVER had a single HDD fail me, and that's Western Digital. Even the drives I still have that read hundreds of megs in capacity still technically work.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD1003FZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Western Digital
Inexpensive dollar to space ratio

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have owned nearly all brands of HDD at some point, and at some point, at least 1 drive of every brand I've ever owned has failed. To this point, not 1 WD drive I have owned has died. I have WD drives rating in the hundreds of megs that technically still operate.

For my money, no one beats WD for HDDs.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD1003FZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Fast and reliable like my other WD drives.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I setup and run various test activities on my new drives and let them burn in for 2 to 3 weeks to make sure they are solid before using them. These are doing fine like my other WD drives and no problems so far!
