Pros: setup very easy & intuitive. about as easy as plug & play can get. at least to get started. I'm just scratching the surface of what this cloud drive can do. will add to update after the learning curve is over, why i can only give 3 eggs at the moment.

Cons: unable to do a system image using WIN 7, main reason why i got this. is there a way to do this? per documentation you need WIN 7 professional to do this. looking for alternate software to perform system image to My Cloud, if its out there. if i can't do system image will probably drop another egg or 2.

Other Thoughts: first file, picture,video backups did take some time, had to let it run over night, i think this is mainly due to my router limitations. will try to provide updates as i get over the initial learning curve.

Unfortunately only Windows 7 Professional or Enterprise edition allows backup to a network location natively. We have an article below which provides more information.

There are many 3rd party backup solutions available which provides file level or full image backup to a local network location, such as Acronis True Image or others. Pros: Easy to install, affordable and a simple NAS solution.

*** Back Story / System Set Up to describe the CONS ***
I have two 4TB MyCloud NAS on my network to serve up media files to my 3 WD Media Players connected to TV's. I purchased the first NAS 1 1/2 years ago and the second about 1 year ago, so I have had quite a bit of time of time and experience with these systems.

My setup is simple, DHCP on both, automatic firmware updates and neither is accessed remotely, only used on the home / internal network.

Cons: One of my NAS works fine, no issues... My second NAS (purchased 1 1/2 years ago) disconnects from the network every 2 to 3 days.

I check the firmware regularly and it is always up to date. I have replaced the network cable 3 times (Cat 5, Cat 5e and finally Cat 6), yet the NAS still disconnects every couple of days.

I'll disconnect the power, let it sit for a few minutes, then reconnect. Up until recently, this normally resolves the problem, but still very annoying.

In recent weeks, disconnecting the power won't reboot the NAS (blue ready light), rather is a solid white light, and unable to access the drive.

Each reset is taking longer, whereby disconnecting the network cable, pressing the reset button for about 50 seconds on the back of the NAS, then letting it reboot, finally reconnecting the network cable. It would take approx. 5 minutes before it was online, then its 10 min, and now up to 15+ min before its online.

I expect the drive to completely fail in the coming weeks, which I'm now shopping for a back up drive (NOT WD).

Additional comments:
* The NAS that works fine, will go in to idle status when its supposed to and conserve energy. The NAS that disconnects regularly, rarely goes to an idle status, spools up and clicks away for hours (as if indexing) when no one is using it / accessing it.

*WD's online user guide (PDF) references most trouble shooting on pages 109 & 110. Has anyone noticed that the guide is missing pages 106 to 115, MOST of the trouble shooting section???

Other Thoughts: I was looking for a simple, no fuss NAS solution so my family could watch videos and access data when they want. After spending $500.00 on two WD 4TB MyCloud NAS drives, I now find myself shopping for a replacement set up. I wish I would have saved my money and spent a bit more for a better NAS solution.

I expect one drive to completely fail in the near future and who knows about the second one. Based on my experience, you have a 50/50 shot at getting a reliable / working NAS drive from WD.

Pros: I have this connected to my home network of 13 computers, And I connect to it remotely with 3 different I phones and an Ipad.

I don't have a single issue.

Cons: making a new connect key code can be annoying.

Other Thoughts: for people that are good with networks and security it would be nice if you could connect without having to generate keys all the time.

Cons: * keeps dropping off the network. have to reboot it daily.
* it's unbelievably slow. others have had this experience, i don't understand where smallnetbuilder gets their numbers.

Pros: Works fine. No streaming problems. The transfer speed is about 60MB/s on average.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I don't know why so many people are complaining. A lot of the problems people seem to be having have not happened to me, so that leads me to believe that either they have defective products, or their problems are from other pieces of hardware (slow routers, faulty cables, slow internal drives, ect...).

Pros: -Flies on 1Gbps LAN
- Easy to access on App wether local or on app

Cons: -freezes on giant data transfers

Other Thoughts: tip for people having issues-
make sure ALL your hardware is 1Gbps. modem/router, PC ethernet port. Also I do not know what you may considered "high speed" internet, but I have 50 mbps. Know your hardware. I had no issue setting this up. Only issue is that it kinda froze when I tried to copy some ISOs (Like 70) but it was fine when I did it in groups of 10.

Pros: Stable, Fast, Easy, low power

Cons: The interface isn't the greatest, but I don't use it.

Other Thoughts: I haven't had any of the issues other users were referring to, I have this attached to my network and use it CONSTANTLY, 5-6 hours a day of heavy use.

Map this drive on your network and you won't have any issues.

Cons: - Slow transfer speed
- Bandwidth hog
- Unreliable
- Data disappears from time-to-time
- Awful customer service
- Clunky software
- Terrible streaming, if it connected at all via mobile app

Other Thoughts: I bought this loving the idea of a simple solution of being able to access all of my files/media from wherever. However, I have had nothing but problems with it. Whenever I would contact customer service, it was always my hardware's fault, (I've used 3 different routers, 2 PC's, 1 laptop, 3 high speed internet connections) and had same results no matter where.
Data transfer is is exruciatingly slow. Even a direct connection to the PC is still slow. Trying to connect to the hard drive through the mobile app was a joke. Most of the time it wouldn't even connect, and when it did, it was too slow to do anything with the media.
Now my latest issue is that files and folders will randomly disappear. The space used/free doesn't change. And then sometimes the folders will just show up again. Sometimes, it will say the folder is empty, even though the space used is the same as it was full.
I have purchased several Western Digital hard drives through the years, but after this, I am done with them. I currently work in a location that sells these, and I make sure that customers do not buy especially the MyCloud drives.
My regret was waiting too long after the return period, hoping that I could just get it to work, but no improvements to quality, and issues are getting worse.
