4 out of 5 eggsFinally getting organized

This review is from: WD EX4100 (WDBWZE0240KBK-NESN) My Cloud™ Expert Series 4-Bay Pre-configured 24 TB NAS with dual-core processor

Pros: After years of having multiple external drives that mirror each other, This little beauty lets you put all your stuff in one place and with the RAID 5 you are protected.

I found the setup of the unit and mycloud.com very easy. It is quiet, and speedy enough even over wireless to be of tremendous benefit.

It streams full HD movies over both wireless and Cat 6 to my Sony BR players without missing a beat.

Cons: What TOTALLY detracts from this unit is the lack of availability to map a network drive when you are in a remote situation.

Doing some research I found that this was an option before the big upgrade, and MANY complaints on the internet about it.

It seems that as of this writing, Western Digital has not even addressed the request/complaint of many users to put the ability back.

If this is important to you, buy something else.

I suggest someone at Western Digital, at least take the time to address the issue. Ignoring it will not make it go away, and it is costing you sales (I am a WDC stockholder, so obviously if it hurts sales, I might be double jaded because of this.)

Other Thoughts: Overall I like the unit and have no buyer's remorse beyond the remote drive mapping issue. If you are technically inclined, there are ways around the issue, but they are cumbersome and the unit should come with this common NAS functionality.
