5 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

Pros: It is fast compared to a USB 2.0 External drive when used with a USB 3.0 connection. Use this to replace a USB 2.0 Segate 320GB external drive. The Seagate I had for 3.5 years and it still works, but I wanted something with faster transfer speed and larger storage size.

Cons: Not really a con, just observation. The color pattern is a little unique.

Other Thoughts: Conducted full disk encryption first. Then loaded with my files. Plan to use it five days a week almost every week like I did with my Seagate hard drive it replaced. I bought a 3 foot USB cable to replace the shorter cable that came with the hard drive.
So far, so good.

3 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasts....

Pros: It's definitely rugged. I've been through security checks, baggage drops, not to mention my general droppy-ness. And it keeps on going. I bought it to backup pictures when I went on trips in case my camera or laptop get stolen and it's lasted for one year without any trouble.

Cons: The connection for the USB cable on the drive itself. It's pretty flimsy and breaks easily.

It seems to be a common point out on the discussion boards. Either from general plugging in with the associated cable or maybe it got poked with something in my bag. But mine broke recently due to a bent pin.

Other Thoughts: If you're going to buy this product, I would suggest getting a bag or something to carry it in. Something to keep the dust out of the connection and protect it from folks poking the plug. I really wish the design would include a cover since it is supposed to be rugged.

I would warn folks that if you're looking for warranty support from SP, you might run into a snag. It was going to cost me 20-30$ to ship it to them for RMA/work, and another 20-30 to get it back, so when you consider its a 80$ unit, it might not be worth it. And they won't recover your data.

1 out of 5 eggsSP 1TB USB External HD

Pros: Looks Rugged, Feels Rugged

Cons: Issue with USB port. Absolutely NO Technical or Customer support despite fancy and impressive website

Other Thoughts: Bought this new through another source. Lasted abt 3 months. Never really used it...just backed up some important data. The internal connection that supports USB port came loose after only a few uses. Despite warranty, I cannot get anyone from SP to respond to any request for support I have so far made - both by telephone and by email. It may be durable with its data retention, but w/o a working port what good is the device?

5 out of 5 eggsSilicon Power Rugged Armor 1TB External Hard Drive is a great device

Pros: Silicon Power Rugged Armor A15 1TB 2.5-Inch USB 3.0 Drop Military Grade External Hard Drive, Black is a great device. This external hard-drive is very light weight and holds a 1 Terabyte of data. This drive was actually drop tested to military standard. This hard-drive was drop tested on 26 contact points (8 corners, 12 cut surfaces and 6 major surfaces). This is great I will get a lot of use out of it. I am glad I have this product and would definitely recommend it to others.

Thank you reading my review.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Great and rugged product. It feels sturdy, light-weight and a slim design. The USB cable is long enough to not be a hassle. The cable doesn't pop out easily like some other external drives I've had. The one touch back-up is a great added feature. All in all for a 1TB USB 3.0 drive it's a great buy you can't pass up.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsFast and tough

Pros: The drive is clad in hard rubber (or armor is how they call it) all throughout. It is rated military grade MIL-STD-810F meaning it was tested by dropping it 26 times on lava from 4 ft away. 4 ft having been the typical distance you may accidentally drop something chest high. (OK, I did lie on the lava thing.) The test is to have it drop in different angles, the sides, front, bottom, etc and the drive doesn't have to be on. And for the reason that they have already drop tested it, I will not test it again on this review. I will just take their word for it :)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I first plugged it to my PC and was glad that it didn't ask to install any software like other external hard drives I had before. My first task was to copy a 1G avi video from the desktop to the drive - 10.3 seconds. Copying back from the A15 to the PC took a little longer at 13.7 seconds.

I ran the Crystal Disk Mark and it posted read at 123 MB/s and write at 121 MB/s for a simple test. As for real world test I transferred 12 Gigs of all kinds of files from my Dropbox folder to the drive - 4 mins and 32 seconds.

Using BlackMagicDesign for speed test, the drive was roaring on my Mac Air with read at 345 MB/s 9 and even up to 540.0 MB/s and writes at 327 MB/s. A 1.47 Gbs movie copies at 13.81 seconds to the drive and copied back at 12.5 seconds.

Quick specs:
- 1 TB
- USB 3.o
- 2.5" drive
- One-touch back-up (which I couldn't care less)
- Win, Mac & Linux compatible
- Weight: 200g
- I cannot find any data on the RPM

A sample of this product was sent to me for review purposes.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Unit

Pros: Reliable and easy to use.

Cons: Not as much of a bargin as other units I have found since buying this unit.

Other Thoughts: At the time I was putting together items for my daughter to bring to college, this was a good combination of size, quality and price. Shortly after several other units were offered with a better size/cost ratio without sacrificing quality.
