4 out of 5 eggsSilicon Power Sky Share H10 1TB Wi-Fi USB 3.0 External Hard Drive SP010TBWHDH10A3J (Black)

Pros: So far works as advertised.
FAST USB 3 access
1TB storage
"Wifi forwarding"
Multiple means of access - Web interface, Android App, direct SMB network access (needs 3rd party app)

Cons: Minimal instructions
Just "ok" web / Android Apps

Other Thoughts: Overall the hardware seems to be a solid product, with some rough edges around the accompanying software.

While I had little trouble setting this unit up, I did have _a little_ trouble.
I can understand how a non-technical user might be confused or simply totally lost due to the minimal amount of instructions provided.
Because I am a techie, I had enough knowledge on my own to make setup straightforward.

While there are some rough edges (hence the lost point to 4/5), overall the product seems to do what it claims and do it reasonably well (though as noted above I've only had it a few days).

As a techie, I understand why the unit acts as its own Wifi hotspot. It's a PORTABLE drive, so you want to be able to use it anywhere -- like where there is no internet access and you can't reach any of your "normal" cloud storage, or streaming services. So it needs to give your device something to connect to. Letting the device connect to another network if probably asking for trouble causing -- (a) further user confusion and (b) a potential security risk -- if you can access the files on the drive, so can anyone else, without also setting up a password for access to the SMB file share -- something that's currently not an option.

Given the above, I see the "Wifi forwarding" feature as a nice touch, allowing you to still use the Internet while streaming to the device, but keeping its content on the "private" network (well, as private as anything over Wifi can be).
I leave my devices set to their normal wifi hotspots, and only switch to the Sky Share when I want to access its content.

As for the users unable to create and/or delete files and/or folders via Wifi, I haven't found a need to use the app at all. For grins I installed the most recent versions of the Sky Share App (4/22/2014 in the Google Play Store) and the Wifi H10v2 App (4/27/2014 in Google Play) and found them to work reasonably well and have a bit more of a hand-holding interface than ES File Explorer, but as noted by others, tools for folder creation, etc. are a bit lacking. IMHO, heavy duty file copies, upload/download, file organization etc. should really be when connected to a computer via USB anyway

The caveat to the above is I am a techie, and as such I already had ES File Explorer installed and use that to connect to the Sky Share as a network device (it uses the standard SMB network protocol so it can be accessed as a standard windows file server). Using ES File Explorer I am able to access the drive's contents directly to view/play them as well as create/copy/delete files and folders. Non-techies / power users will likely venture no further than the provided apps so from that perspective I can understand the frustration and more negative opinions expressed in the other reviews here.

1 out of 5 eggsBad software firmware

Pros: nothing good about this product, nothing.

Cons: Really bad chinese software design, makes it waste of money, to bad is too late for me to return it.
- The mobile app does not allow to create or delete folders, so somehow you have to have folders created some other way.So if i want to move photos from a phone to lets say "myparty" folder, you have no way of creating that folder.
- access over wifi from a mac is broken, try copying a folder with photos in it and apparently the folder is copied without any working or errors but when you look inside the folder is empty.
-in order to copy over wifi to this drive, i had to first create an empty folder and then copy files only into it, without any subfolders.
-if you try to copy files over existing ones , instead of asking if you want to overwrite is saying the operation can't be completed because an item with the same name already exists.
-try deleting files over wifi and the files are still there with size 0
-This drive needs to be set up as a wifi router between your devices and your internet wifi router, so your devices will be connected to this drive's ssid network and from there over wifi again to your internet wifi router.if would have been useful to be able to connect it to an existing network too.
- Since you are forced to connect all you devices to the drives ssid network is really stupid to disable the wifi when the drive is connected over the usb cable, leaving all over devices without internet access.
-The web interface that the manufacturer is claiming to work as a file transfer interface over wifi can't delete folders, so if i create a folder with the wrong name , i will have to abandon the web interface, disconnect the drive from wifi, connect it over the usb and only then i can delete folders.
-As i mentioned above the device acts as an internet sharing over wifi but it has to be rebooted daily because the connection to the internet became so slow is hard to use it. After a reboot is fine again for about a day or two.

Over all is such a struggle to use this drive , is useless. The only reliable way to use it is as a usb drive, but then is really expensive for just that.

I wish the manufacturer find this review useful and fix this issues.

1 out of 5 eggsSkyshare H10

Pros: It connects to my phone via wifi and to my computer bia USB. But the connectivity is either backwards or only half way implemented. I want to transfer from my phone to the Sky Share but it will not work that way.

Cons: It will not let the wifi connect until the USB is disconnected. And It will not let a transfer from the remote device upload to the drive.
This is just the opposite of what I wanted. It will only send files from the drive to the wifi user. I wish I had read the small.print.

2 out of 5 eggsWhy

Pros: -USB 3.0

Cons: -must use their app to access content
-must connect to products own Wi-Fi, making it impossible to use regular internet while streaming
-ugly app for android

Other Thoughts: Couldn't get it to connect to my laptop wirelessly, instructions were too vague.

If you're looking for a small cheap network storage, this is not it. If you have an apple product and want to stream large files, maybe this is for you?
