1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't support hidden folders

Pros: Pretty and cute status beeps

Cons: - Turns out this is a lemon if you need to store linux-style 'hidden' folders that start with the period (eg .svn) The SMB config they're using on the NAS will automatically unlist all dot folders.

- no ssh access to even attempt fixing this.

- Other review sites have mentioned this, but the iSCSI is only the BD drive and disables the built-in backup and SMB share.

Other Thoughts: I have some annoyances with my QNAP, but at least it doesn't do silly things like the above.

Note: you can enable ssh via a third-party firmware (search tantalus) but that's a bit beyond what I want to mess with on my NAS.

3 out of 5 eggsWon't join a domain but nice little enclosure.

Pros: Nice looking. Cool features. Quiet and small. Probably works great in a workgroup environment.

Cons: Won't join a domain. We have a domain running Windows 2008 R2 but it wouldn't accept any credentials to join the domain. You consistently get this error LGNAS logger: [SET_DOMAIN] RESULT=2: Execution fail Wrong ID/PW.

LG website had great instructions on how to add the device to AD domain but failed.

Contacted customer service and they said, "NAS might not work for windows server 2008", "several issues regarding SMB signing and determined that the product would not be compatible with Server 2008".

I inquired if it would work with Server 2003, the response from tech support was, "yes. it will work. nevertheless there are still issues related to the smb signing. it has to do with the samba version utilized on nas which is , if i'm not mistaking 3.2.6 and there's an issue itself with the protocol and joining AD".

I verified that it does NOT work on a Windows Server 2003 domain. Same issues.

Other Thoughts: LG was helpful but the claims they advertise for joining AD domain would probably be considered fraudulent.

Returned unit. Thank you NewEgg for working with me regarding restocking fee.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great with some modifications

Pros: Excellent Construction
Performs well for price point
Many options
Good forum support if you speak German <g>
18-20mb transfers. Acceptable for my application.
Playon works well with this.

Cons: Documentation could be better.
LG Support should be better.
Standard firmware doesn't play nice with Xbox360

Other Thoughts: I put 2 2TB Samsung F4's in this with no problem.
3rd party firmware (google Tantalus N2R1 firmware) enhances this unit wonderfully. dlna streaming sucks for Xbox 360 until you set up Twonkymedia for the NAS and then its a dream.
Really glad I purchased this.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat NAS

Pros: Great features. Hot swappable drive slots. Slapped two 2TB green drives.

Cons: A little bit slow on transfer rate. It's connection to my WNDR3700 on GbE connection. I get approximately 5-6MBps copy rate. Could be faster I think. -1 egg for that. -1 for not supporting MKVs for DLNA streaming. User password cannot be complex as I wanted it to be. It will accept them but once you're in the client it will not work.

Other Thoughts: Not bad features, priced pretty good without the drives but sometimes I think I should have purchased a Windows Home Server instead.
