2 out of 5 eggsdata graveyard

Pros: Easy to use as a NAS device

Cons: 2 years and data went to heaven. No warning...just eyeballs looking at forehead.

Other Thoughts: Somehow, I expected that a product which was supposed to perform such a vital function would have more reliability and longevity. I guess that storage isn't LG's strength.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't waste your money

Pros: Unit worked flawlessly for 15 months.

Cons: LG does not repair those units. If it fails and the problem cannot be addressed over the phone, you are simply out of luck. It simply needs to be thrown away.

Other Thoughts: Don't by LG storage units.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor LG products and worst customer service

Pros: This product has no pros at all!

Cons: This drive stopped working after a year's usage and all data is now gone. On top of that I have had the worst experience with LG which simply said "Nothing can be done about it". For something that is being used as a backup, reliability should be high. Do NOT buy this product (or rather any product from LG).

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: The price would be good if it worked

Cons: Instructions are lacking, spent two hours myself trying to set it up. Spent two more hours on chat with LG tech support; they tried to be helpful but could not get it working either. I returned it, bought a Synology DS111 and Seagate drive, had those working in 15 minutes.

Other Thoughts: Don't waste your time or money, spend a little more for a good NAS and save some aspirin.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat media storage for whole home!

Pros: Great Price, Gigabit port, USB port for printer sharing.

Cons: Wish I could get it in a 2 Gigabyte variety for about the same price.

Other Thoughts: I use this with four (4) Sony SMP-N100 Media Players running simultaneously. It does not buffer or hesitate. Great device for streaming AVI and Divx movies to multiple TV's at one time.

4 out of 5 eggsNice NAS for $$ spent

Pros: Set up was easy enough. Connectivity is fine, maintains connection even when our network service is interrupted.

Cons: Slow write speeds, but we store from our main workstaions for media services such as movies, pics, etc
No big deal

Other Thoughts: Saw the NAS with DVD and thought that was a nice addition {after making this purchase}

2 out of 5 eggsNot happy...

Pros: Decent GUI with the firmware updates. Lots of functionality including web page hosting, iTunes server, home monitoring with USB camera, Family Cast service and more...

Cons: Lacks any real customization features, can't change the colors or fonts. Requires 2 firmware updates, you can't just update to the newest available. SLOW write speeds over home network, comparable to USB1.1.

My main gripe is that after spending hours getting everything set up and working, even verified remote access was working, unit started refusing access to any folders thru the web explorer, and refuses login thru home networking on both Win7 and WinXP.

I reinitialized the unit, re-updated firmwares, got everything set up and working, then a few days later the same thing happened. I have a 2TB archive drive attached to the USB meaning I have 3TB NAS that I cannot access. I can login to the web service, but cannot access any data on either drive in any folder regardless of permissions.

I emailed customer service, but their suggestion did not help and in order to respond you have to fill out long email form a second time. Have not tried 800 number yet.

Other Thoughts: Seemed to work reasonably well when it was working other than the slow write speeds even on a wired network connection. Was excited to try out all the functions but now I'm just mad that I have my entire archive drive locked up on this POJ... Good thing I only paid $80, if nothing else I'll pull the 1TB drive out and call it even...

1 out of 5 eggsDead out of the box

Pros: None - Unfortunately no chance to use it.

Cons: Dead out of the box. HD continually resets and beeps every second.

Should be 0 eggs, but webform forces one star.

3 out of 5 eggsdisappointing on many levels

Pros: cheap nas - good if you want a cheap slowish network drive that is ALWAYS on, but not much else from it.
DLNA seems to work OK, can stream mkv directly to my samsung TV without trying to transcode, which of course would be impossible. DLNA for music works ok but you can't create custom playlists

Cons: Slow. why they put a 7200 rpm drive in this is beyond me. Max speed on this is about 20MB/s. Both the drive and the gigabit should be capable of 70MB/s or more.
Torrent client is useless. very slow, minimal controls and does not save your speed cap settings.

For the life of me I can't get the ftp access from WAN even though I know how to forward ports and haven't had problems configuring ftp servers on pcs.

Web file management is painfully slow. Moving a file should be instant but is doing some weird copying instead and takes forever, so moving a file from one folder to another on the device transfers at ~8MB/s. :(

Help system on the device is in Korean!

Will NOT sleep. Set the device to sleep after 30 min. but it never does. Drive NEVER spins down.
No WOL - only power button can turn it on.
No way to turn it OFF other than to log into the web interface - enter usepassword - go through several slow menus. yuck. Why won't the power button turn it off?!

Other Thoughts: overall it's a amazing what can be done on a little device that uses 10-15 watts, but poor engineering choices mean that this little guy is ultimately not very useful, at least not for me. Purely as a slowish NAS that is only accessable form the LAN, it is ok.
