4 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: Does a complete backup and puts the files so you can selectivly recover them as needed. I'm backing up a bit over 200GB each on two machines and it seems to work fine, but it does take a while.

Cons: Every now and again the software will hog 25% of the CPU and will stay that way until the system is rebooted. That can't be right. It's not active, just seems to be software hung.

Other Thoughts: Win 7 Home premium 64 bit (HP is a 32 bit app). Bought 2 @ Costco for $49.97 ea when they were closing them out.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks fine for us

Pros: It works fine as a backup device. That's what I bought it for - nothing else.

Cons: The included software is bizarre; I used it once and never touched it again (as other reviewers have noted, the software will try to autorun when the unit is plugged into a USB port).

Other Thoughts: We use Windows Backup&Restore to push backups; this works fine.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Picked mine up for 80 bucks. has a RELIABLE WD drive (Which is what you want in a backup drive)

Cons: Its a Western Digital drive Yes BUT... its a green drive, which can be a good thing as to that less heat = more reliability but it also means its VERYYYYYYYYYYYYY slow.

AVRG Read - Write speeds about 25-15Mbps

Other Thoughts: Not bad, but it would have been nice if they didnt make it require the external power adapter.

2 out of 5 eggsLess than expected

Pros: sleek and quiet, that's about it.

Cons: Although it says 1TB the software that come preloaded with it takes up a huge part of that 1TB, 60 GB to be exact. Not only that the software that is used is terribly slow and not really worth it. Yet another thing that makes this hard drive pretty worthless is that when plugged in a virtual CD drive is created for the backup software, even after formatting the HDD the virtual drive still appears, it doesn't really effect the drive performance but it is pretty annoying.

Other Thoughts: Not worth the price, I expected a lot more from HP considering i never had any issues with any of the hardware I ever got from them.

4 out of 5 eggsGlossy Black

Pros: Silent and low temps. Has a nice appearance. Great and simple to use for technically challenged. Nice to have a backup drive that you can disconnect from a power supply.
Matched the size of my internal harddrive.

Cons: HP's SimpleSave software wants to start backing up files within a 30 sec of turning it on unless you click cancel right away. Has a built in virtual CDROM to auto-play the SimpleSave Software. The software is on the harddrive. The CDROM seems to be hardwired into the enclosure's circuitry and low level formatting did not remove the CDROM, so this creates two drives instead of one. Also, I'd like to be able to unselect sub-folders I'd rather not back up, such as the podcast folder in my itunes folder.

Other Thoughts: Has a 3.5" 1TB WD Caviar Green drive inside. I'm using a 30 day trial of Norton's Ghost 15 instead of SimpleSave. Took four hours to back up 300 GB without file compression. Will try other backup software.

2 out of 5 eggsHorrifically Slow

Pros: Large storage

Cons: Horrifically slow even for a USB drive. Average transfer rate when copying 70GB of files ranged from 5MB - 12MB per second.

Other Thoughts: Returning it and going to look at other Manufacturers. I like my old 120GB WD portable drive. Even it is a lot faster than this HP drive.

Pros: Sleek, black casing. Quiet, cool. So easy a caveman could do it...

Cons: Average xfer speed. Not Lightning fast.

Other Thoughts: We'll see after a couple of months. Hope
