5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great drive. Set it up and forget about it. Using it to backup as SQL Server Transaction logs and differential backups locally and it works like a charm.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Just bought another.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome product

Pros: cheap compared to online backup, amazing quality, great support. We switched more than 20 Clients to i.o.Safe in the last 12 month without any trouble at all.

Cons: no available in Germany/Switzerland,

Other Thoughts: building a better international network, support and service in the USA is great. Thank you ioSafe

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Device!

Pros: Rest assured, our backups of backups are safe from fire and water damage!
E-Sata or USB, whichever you have to use.
High newegg rating, 1 TB Hitcachi HDS721010CLA332 Drives.

Cons: You have to really put your ear to it to find out whether or not your drive is spinning up, it's quiet! ;)

Other Thoughts: I called the manufacturer's support line before purchasing, because i wanted to know what hard drives they use in assembly, since the details don't explicitly say. My plan is to use multiple enclosures in a raid 1/0 config, but wanted to check compatibility before hand with the drives being used and the controller I'm going to use. From what support told me, there are two different drives used in this model, the one listed above and a western digital drive.

4 out of 5 eggsmay really need DR service after a fire

Pros: Solid box, seems well built - does what it says operationally.

Cons: May not give you the protection you think you're getting. See "other thoughts".

Other Thoughts: Most hard drives (I just sampled the specs for 20 different drives) have a max non-operating temperature of 60-70 °C. That's 140-158 °F. The endpoint for the ATSM E119 Fire Endurance Test used to rate this enclosure occurs when either all temperature sensors in the box (multiple are used) reach an average of 250°F + ambient starting temperature, or any individual temperature sensor exceeds 325°F + ambient starting temperature, or when the there is burnthrough. If your ambient temperature is 70°F, that's failure at 320°F (avg) to 395°F (max). These temperatures are MUCH higher than the max non-operating temperature specified for most hard drives by the manufacturers, so you'll likely need to use the DR service this comes with to get the platters out of the melted drive and get your data back if a fire really tests this box to the rated limit. If you want the drive to survive and remain functional, you need something with a better fire rating (maybe UL 72 Class 125 or 150).
