2 out of 5 eggsI learn from mistakes

Pros: This drive is built into an extremely durable case. You can drive your car on it and other nonsense.

Cons: This drive failed after slightly more than two years of service as a periodic back-up. During that time it was not used heavily, abused, or unplugged before telling my computer to stop using it.
I tried connecting this to three different computers, using two different cables and it was not recognized properly for driver installation; it's now a paperweight.

Other Thoughts: I don't plan to buy a "durable" replacement at an inflated price just so I can drive my car on it. Instead I'll just buy a regular portable drive and keep it out of harms way. I may try to disassemble this failed one and see if I can replace the hard drive inside.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat External HDD

Pros: Great rugged hard drive. Lives mostly in a backpack, sometimes carried under rain and snow. Stores and delivers data as promised.

Cons: Somewhat heavy and pricey, but has its purpose.

Other Thoughts: Requires fully USB 3 or double USB 2 port to work. Might be somewhat nuisance on older laptops with not many USB ports.

Also on Windows laptops I found that "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" checkbox shuould be unchecked under Device Manager. USB Root Hub,Power Management. Otherwise drive may disconnect spuriously.

1 out of 5 eggsfailed twice in 6 months

Pros: Outward appearances suggest good physical, safe structure.

Cons: My first drive died in 2 weeks; the second in 6 months. This is with extremely minimal use, plugged in for only a couple of days a month while backups were being made.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Exterior case is built like a tank.
USB 3.0 speeds and backwards compatible with USB 2.0
No power adapter required (gets power through USB cable).

Cons: The USB connector on the drive worries me. This one is very thin and seems less robust than older gen "square" connectors.

Other Thoughts: I am extra careful to insert and remove as "perpendicularly" as possible to avoid bending the thin metal on the male portion of the connector. Time and care will tell how robust it is in an environment where the drive is frequently plugged and unplugged.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, reliable drive

Pros: Performance - very fast (USB 3.0), Plug-N-Play performs well, strong benchmark results, always cool to the touch (even after hours of continuous use), consistently reliable file transfer/backup.
Rugged - solid, well build, sturdy, quality feel.
Quiet - difficult to tell when it is actually spinning.
Customer support - far exceeds most tech companies. Fast response times, friendly & knowledgeable. Good reputation (just read the reviews).
Easy to use - Up and running right out of the box without any issues. USB 2.0 compatible as well.
Backup software included - a free copy of Genie Timeline Professional was provided. I was pleasantly surprised at Genie's ability to operate quickly & quietly in the background without affecting my computer's performance.

Cons: None. Some might complain about the size, which I don't consider a con as long as you read the dimensions and are aware of the actual size. While it may be slightly bulky compared to other portable drives, it is definitely worth it when you consider the stability, performance, durability & warranty.

Other Thoughts: Excellent portable drive. Highly recommended to anyone who needs a fast, sturdy, reliable USB drive.

5 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

Pros: Peace of Mind

The drive works, plug and play, and customer service is excellent (very worthwhile and easy to register).
You can confidently store your data.

Cons: Pricey

Not a big complaint, but...
The alignment of the 3.0 USB female port was a little off. It was difficult to seat the male plug into. I am a little concerned that over time the port could get damaged.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Sturdy, Cool, Stable, Solid

Cons: None Yet

Other Thoughts: I found out about ioSafe through the Photofocus blog, and I have to say that it is amazing. I was looking for a portable drive that would not "flex" or "crush" in an over loaded computer or camera bag and this fits the bill plus more. I have not had any trouble getting it to run off of just one usb port using the supplied usb 3 cable whether I used a usb 2 or 3 port-even off my laptop. They include a y cable if needed, but so far it has not been necessary. This is one awesome drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product, Great US-based support

Pros: Easy to use, rugged enough to safely keep my files and I have a tendency to drop things...a lot. Quick transfer of files. I love that it is self charging and I don't have to find another outlet when I want to use this drive.

Customer service is beyond exceptional and located in California (US based is very important to me). Great value for such a really well made product.

Cons: I had an issue with being able to use on a MAC and a PC. Cust service helped me with formatting and was there when I messed it up. (I'm not tecchie at ALL). I think if you only wanted to use this drive on one platform, or if you already knew how to partition, you would not have any problems.

Other Thoughts: Very impressed with this organization and I would definitely buy this product and others again without hesitation.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: - USB 3.0
- Aluminum casing
- Solid Performance
- Great company behind it

Even while running it's somewhat difficult to tell if the drive is actually spinning. The only time this is a con is when you want to know if the drive is safe to unplug.

Cons: Somewhat more expensive, but worth the investment.

Other Thoughts: As far as tossing this drive around, I haven't yet had the chance to do so, other than going to and fro class, but I have a feeling it will be able to take the beating when I use it for productions and will be traveling with it. If otherwise, I'll let you know :)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Portable Hard Drive

Pros: Portable
Plug and play
Well Constructed
Higher reliability (vs other portables)
USB 3.0

The drive arrived in great shape and setup was plug-n-play. Transferring files is fast with USB 3.0, and it is compatible with USB 2.0 as well. It was a little more expensive, but the extra money seems well worth it so far. I highly recommend this drive for anybody looking for a reliable portable hard drive.

Cons: Slightly higher cost (vs other portables)
Slightly larger size and weight (vs other portables)

Other Thoughts: I was actually looking at other, less expensive portable hard drives, but they all have multiple reviews on-line about drive failures, especially if dropped. Then I saw the ioSafe Rugged Portable on sale. I started researching ioSafe and liked what I read. There weren't very many reviews of this drive on-line, but I didn't find any negative reviews, either (other than the drive is "big and heavy"). I'll take the slightly larger size and weight in exchange for higher reliability.
