Designed for professional users and small business with vulnerable data, the ioSafe N2 is a fireproof and waterproof, network connected, multi-drive NAS/RAID storage device that protects and secures terabytes of your personal or business data. This NAS system is powered by a Synology DSM motherboard and operating system, allowing fast access on your local network and remote access from nearly any device connected to the internet. USB connectivity and SD card slot make storage expansion and data share a snap.

The ioSafe Data Recovery Service (DRS Basic) provides a no questions asked data recovery service for any loss, no matter the reason. Whether you're a victim of a drive failure or your child throws your drive in the family swimming pool —you're covered!

  • newegg Fire Protection DataCast endothermic fire insulation technology protects your data from extreme heat. The DataCast formulation forms a chemical bond with water molecules that, at temperatures above 160°F, releases water vapor to limit the internal temperature of the unit during a fire.
  • newegg Water Protection HydroSafe water barrier technology is designed to protect data loss from fresh or salt water damage, including full immersion. While keeping your data dry, the HydroSafe technology still allows heat to dissipate during normal operation.
  • newegg Private Cloud All your data is in one spot. Fast when you're local and accessible when you're remote with just about any smartphone, tablet or computers. Enjoy virtually an unlimited amount of data storage and accessibility with none of the vulnerabilities and high fees of the public cloud.
  • newegg Redundant Hard Drives (RAID) With RAID 1, your hard drives are automatically redundant to guard against a single hard drive failure. The N2 can utilize two hard drives up to 4TB each. The drives are hot-swappable in case of failure and will rebuild the volume back to a redundant state upon replacement.
  • newegg Theft Protection First - be creative. You can make this device a part of your wireless network and hide it anywhere inside your house or workplace. Hide it as you might a small safe. Additionally, a Kensington lock slot is standard. An Optional Floor Mount / Padlock Kit (shipping in January 2013) will enable the N2 to bolt down to any surface or be secured with a cable & padlock. Securing the drive also prevents the drive from moving during a disaster.
  • newegg Active Airflow Cooling For optimum operating temperature, FloSafe active airflow cooling technology provides cooling airflow through the enclosure and across the disk drives during normal operating conditions. If destructive heat levels are sensed, such as in a fire, the FloSafe vent is designed to limit and protect your data from the extreme heat.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product/customer support

Pros: Easy to use, lots of capabilities with the Synology operating system excellent customer support

Cons: It is heavy but that's because of the protection,

Other Thoughts: I am very impressed with the box. I know my family digital treasures and business papers are protected in case of anything.

Often you find out the most about a company when there is a problem. Someone the unit I first received had a problem. Matt in customer support did an excellent job of troubleshooting with me. When we determined there was a hardware problem he arranged to ship me a new unit immediately. New unit was fine.

5 out of 5 eggsWell protected NAS

Pros: I owned a Synology DS211 and was looking to upgrade. I found this and with all of the information I need to protect in a digital format it was an upgrade and a lot more protection.

The N2's NAS guts are a Synology DS213 board. It's a nice looking black and you get all of the tools you need to open the box. Bigger and heavier than other 2 bay drives, but that gets you the protection you bought this for. It's easy to take about and slide the drives right in. I but in two Seagate NAS HDD's, ST3000VN000. So with 3TB in a RAID1 I still have plenty of space to back up data and machines. The drives were excepted with no issues. If you have used Synology NAS's before you'll know what to expect. I connected it to one of my APC UPS's by a USB port and it was recognized and setup easily.

It' a solid machine, easy to install drives, and it booted right up. Updated the DSM software, made a RAID 1 and it works right. It's on my home network and seen by all my machines immediately. A definite upgrade over my DS211. I bought mine from Newegg through another site. Slightly better deal than Newegg directly for me, but still Newegg.

Cons: None, anything that might be a con is for the extra protection you bought this for.

Other Thoughts: Best of both worlds, a Synology NAS with protection from Iosafe. It's fast and should protect my data with no issues from any unexpected scenarios.

5 out of 5 eggsNo Excuses - Save Your Memories

Pros: I've owned the Synology 1812+ for over a year but was always a bit concerned about "what if" something happened to all those pictures, videos and documents. I always keep at least 3 copies on two separate systems but none can compare to the IOSafe N2.

When you absolutely, positively cannot lose a file - this is your only practical choice.

It's built on a very solid Synology OS that did take some time to learn but is rich with features, security and flexibility. Roku users will love the DS Video app that makes actually watching your home videos a breeze.

The N2 is compact for what's it claims it can do in fire and water and is a clean, nice looking unit.

Although I won't likely be using the copy or SD card function, it's a nice add if you're keeping this close to your PC.

Cons: I'd say the only downside is it's only two disks so Raid 1 is it and that kills half your space. I am running two 4TB NAS drives (which are only 3.63GB when installed) After Raid, you're down to just 3.63TB to store and protect your data. That can go quickly with video and a lot of pictures.

I run Raid 6 on my Synology 1812+ and would like to see an IOSafe N4 or N8 down the road for larger needs.

The N2 is a hardened Synology DS213 for about 90% more than the non-protected unit. Still, when you do the math, it's a mere $290 or so dollars to protect irreplaceable data. Worth it.

Other Thoughts: Good choice and probably the only choice that's proven in the field. I hope I never need its capabilities but it is great to know the data is safe.

5 out of 5 eggsWho said you need a 3-2-1 Backup

Pros: Who said you need a 3-2-1 Backup, Ok, maybe I am jumping the gun, but this product makes me feel much more secure about my Data. I have it in a Raid 1, with 2TB HDD, I wanted to put in 4TB HDD, but the uncertainties, on the affordable 4TB HDD, made me stick with the more dependable 2TB WD HDD. I synced just over a TB of data, took a couple of days over my network. I was using GoodSync 8 to sync. Just to give you a heads up, the USB ports on the ioSafe N2 are to connect other HDD drives, you cannot, & I tried, connect a PC to any of the USB ports on the ioSafe N2. I paid $599.00, free shipping, the item arrived in excellent condition, the ioSafe N2 weighs about 30lbs, so do not drop it, it has a hard body / case just like a safe, sleek black mat finish, no dents or dings, I purchased 2-1TB WD HDD @7200RPM's & installed them into the ioSafe N2, all questions about the item were answered promptly by ioSafe & the packaging was in excellent condition when it arrived.

Cons: NONE

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent device

Pros: Super easy to setup and configure via web interface and lots of add-on apps that can be installed (DHCP, DNS, web server, offsite backup, etc). Works great as an iSCSI device and ran 600-800 Mb/s backups from a Windows Server.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Heavy duty construction that provides confidence that this unit will survive.

5 out of 5 eggsBackup in the safe

Pros: Easy to install and setup. Great software is included that lets you customize your use (Mail server, web Server, Music Server....). Files are protected from fire and water. You know where your files are stored unlike cloud services.

Cons: Price, but there isn't anything out there with this kind of protection

Other Thoughts: I purchased the N2 to replace my Windows Home Server. I really liked my WHS, but the N2 offers even more flexibility.
