1 out of 5 eggsDead On Arrrival

This review is from: Fantom Drives GreenDrive 3TB USB 2.0 / eSATA 3.5" External Hard Drive GD3000EU

Pros: It makes a great paperweight.

Cons: They shipped a defective unit from the get go, The Quality Assurance team at the plant dropped the ball there. Probably was built by 8 year old's in China.

Other Thoughts: Included a 2 foot USB 2.0 cable. Would it have killed them to at least give you a six foot cable? It slowed me down having to buy and wait for a longer cable to hook the unit up, just to find out that it was a piece of junk.

3 out of 5 eggsSent it right back

This review is from: Fantom Drives GreenDrive 3TB USB 2.0 / eSATA 3.5" External Hard Drive GD3000EU

Pros: Didn't use, so can't comment.

Cons: Didn't use, so can't comment.

Other Thoughts: I just want Phantom Drives to know, that after reading negative reviews for their customer service, I sent this drive right back.

I do not want to support companies with bad customer service or who make the customer jump hoops in order to obtain warranty service.

Some reviewers indicated when their drives failed under warranty, you must send them the drive at your own cost for them to inspect first and then they determine whether or not they will honor the warranty; if they don't, you must pay a $45 diagnostic fee. Sorry Phantom, this is unacceptable. You just lost a sale.

Drives fail, but there is no excuse for poor customer service.

2 out of 5 eggsOverheating?

This review is from: Fantom Drives GreenDrive 3TB USB 2.0 / eSATA 3.5" External Hard Drive GD3000EU

Pros: Affordable storage, fast eSATA connection

Cons: Overheats

Other Thoughts: This external drive tends to run hot more often than not. Makes me fear that it will be failing soon. I turn the power off when my desktop is off, and ran a small fan on it to keep it cool, which seems to be working for now. When it's too hot, it won't mount when the desktop powers on. POST recognizes that there's something powered connected to an eSATA port, but won't see the drive. Going to get a new drive to back this one up just to be safe.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks.

This review is from: Fantom Drives GreenDrive 3TB USB 2.0 / eSATA 3.5" External Hard Drive GD3000EU

Pros: I plugged it in. It turned on. I put files on it. They are still there. Not much to say about it, besides that it does exactly what it is supposed to do. I run my development VMs off of it over eSATA.

Cons: I sometimes have to power cycle it for Win7 to see it after a reboot. Not a big deal, and is probably a Windows problem. Vibrates a bit more than I would like.

Other Thoughts: Pretty good buy.
