Miracles Happen
- Pros: I spend 4-6 hours a day twitching pixels in Photoshop. If you do any digital photo modifications in using Photoshop and are debating about getting a tablet - wait no longer. A tablet not only not allows you to work 6 times faster, it allows you to manipulate photos in a way you never thought possible. The tip of the pen is pressure sensitive - with "normal" writing pressure, the brushes are normal size - lighten the pressure and the brush gets smaller. This allows you to "brush" pixels into crevices without resetting the brush size. Dodge/burn works the same way - lighten pressure and the modified area narrows.
Before I bought mine, I was very apprehensive about a potentially steep learning curve. Be happy, there is no learning curve - it is completely intuitive. The engineering of this tablet is superb - the pen takes control of the cursor about 3/4 inch above the surface, making it simple to "see" where you are going.
- Cons: Let's get picky about cosmic nits. When I use the factory surface, an occasional cosmic particle sticks to the nib. It's like hitting a hard grain in a pencil lead - necessitating raking the nib back and forth across my shirt to polish off whatever chunk. I know this is an ugly solution, but, it is effective. Tape a piece of slick sided paper over the active area of the tablet. The wrapping paper out of roll printing paper is perfect - no more gravely nibs!
- Other Thoughts: Is 12x12 too big? No - a thousand times no! When I am working on a specific area I rest my forearm on the tablet, very comfortable. When ready to move to a new area, I find it easier to use the space bar on the keyboard rather than use the provided "move key". My keyboard is on a tilted shelf 5" below the tablet almost in my lap - I can just see the numbers row. Left hand controls the all important alt key and space bar, ctrl, etc.
Don't attempt, Photoshop without a tablet, for me the 12x12 is beyond perfect.
OK, Maybe a bit too big.
- Pros: LARGE drawing area. Great features. Easy to install.
- Cons: A little bulky, but what do you expect for a square foot of drawing area!
- Other Thoughts: This is our third Wacom Tablet. I bought this one for my husband after his 6x9 graphire quit (was 6 years old and well used). He loves it but says it might be just a bit too big!
