5 out of 5 eggsI like this KB!

Pros: Good feel. no compatibility issues.

Cons: None that come to mind...

Other Thoughts: The feet used to create a tilt angle of the keyboard are separate pieces that need to be connected to the keyboard. This makes portability a little more difficult as they have to be removed and stored for the KB to fit back into it's box.
I wish there was a backlit version, but that would chew through batteries too fast.

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless

Pros: It's black.
OK so really there are no pros. This is a basic wireless keyboard, and Microsoft made sure they didnt miss an opportunity to underwhelm.

Cons: There is so little to like about this keyboard. The keys have a mushy feel. The ergonomics of this keyboard are only slightly better than the free keyboard that comes with every cheap computer. There is no documentation included in the package, only a few small pamphlets with legalese written in a very small typeface. No instructions, no quick start nothing. There wasn't even software included for programming the keyboard, nor were there instructions as to what to download and where to find it.

The mouse is really awful, the wheel is tiresome to use and in my case the wheel-click doesnt work. The wireless range on the transmitter is awful. With the transmitter plugged into the back of my computer, which is on my desk 24" away from my mouse, reception was sporadic. I had to use one of the 2 front USB ports just to get it to accurately track.

Other Thoughts: Because of the bad mouse button, I called Microsoft and I was given 2 choices for support. 1 return it to microsoft and get a refund or 2 return it to microsoft at my expense and wait for a replacement. They would not send an advance-replacement. This is about the level of support I should have expected from microsoft.

I have owned plenty of wireless keyboards and have always been happy with Logitech. In fact my last microsoft keyboard was replaced by a working one from Logitech and the only reason I went back to m'sfoft is because more than 3 years, the paint was wearing off some of the keys. A very small issue, I know.

4 out of 5 eggsi don't like Microsoft but...

Pros: Nice Ergonomic feel.
Sturdy build.
Nice sized mouse (I have big hands).

Cons: It wasn't free.
Scroll wheel on mouse is lacking.
USB dongle/connector is not "nano" sized.

Other Thoughts: I won't lie,I wanted a Logitech keyboard because I've had bad experiences with Microsoft's keyboards in the past. However, upon learning that the Logitech model that I want is defective I decided to give this one a try.Good job Microsoft! Not a Logitech (on a good day),but worthy nonetheless.

4 out of 5 eggsGet the buisness version

Pros: A user had one of these for a year or two before the F3 key stopped working and he liked the set so much that he requested another one. Newegg has two options for the Microsoft Comfort Desktop 5000, one retail the other "business". From the pictures it looks like the business pack doesn't come with the batteries, but since 4 AA batteries aren't worth the $10 difference I bought it anyway. It turns out that the business pack comes with the batteries anyhow! The only difference between the two sets seems to be the flashy packaging of the retail version.

Cons: The function row keys are small, flat and mushy when pressed. If you use F keys, or the hotkeys this keyboard assigns to them, it's not that impressive for a $60 desktop set.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Keyboard, okay mouse

Pros: The Keyboard is superb in comfort and is nicely designed, aswell as the mouse coming with batteries as well for the keyboard. Very fast reaction time (on a good desktop) and is reliable.

Cons: The Mouse seemed to not want to send signals to the usb, so it would move 1 second, stop and move another inch and stop. Was frustrating, so i had to get a different mouse.

Other Thoughts: Overwell nice if you didnt get a bad mouse.

3 out of 5 eggsSomewhat Satisfied

Pros: Sleek design, sturdy feel, comfortable keys, decent range, decent price.

Cons: The function keys aren't function keys until you a) RTFreakingM, b) spend an hour searching for a tiny innoculous looking key that says "Lock." Or c) Chuck your keyboard into the drive way and drive over it repeatedly. As a Linux hacker this is really annoying behavior, so an automatic two egg reduction. Function keys should always be function keys no matter what. That's what ~/.inputrc is for!

4 out of 5 eggsworth it for the blue track mouse.

Pros: I was given a blue track Microsoft mouse at work and loved how much better it worked on pretty much any surface so when my fourth mouse started to fail on me for my home PC I decided to get the same mouse I have at my full time job. I've been using this mouse at work for about 6 months and it has survived more button clicks than most other mouse brands I've used.

The keyboard is something I'll have to get used too and maybe I'll just stick with my logitech one, however the keys on this Microsoft keyboard are much quieter than any of my other keyboards at home or at work.

Cons: The F1 keys seem like they will be a pain to hit without looking and there is no backlighting on any of the keys. Like the other reviewer said, caps would be nice if lit.

Other Thoughts: Overall I'm very satisfied with the keyboard and the mouse. I can type on this keyboard at around 60 wps just like any other keyboard. I like how much more quiet it is to type on.

4 out of 5 eggsComfortable

Pros: Easy to type with and no wires.

Cons: I wish it had more status lights such as cap lock, it displays the state on the monitor for a sec, but I would like the light.
