4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Keyboard

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate 2014 Black Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: Incredibly easy to type! Takes much less effort than traditional keyboards to type.

Satisfying "clickety clackety" noise. I know how to type, so when I get on a roll, the noise it makes only motivates me to type faster. Sounds silly, sure, but it is very satisfying. Though many list it as a con, I enjoy the noise. I thought it would certainly bother my girlfriend who has no interest in games or computers period (nor does she agree with me spending such large quantities of money on computer components); however she has said on quite a few occasions that it does not bother her at all.

Nice adjustable brightness back light -- even though I usually always keep it at the brightest setting, I do occasionally watch movies on my computer, so it is nice to be able to adjust it accordingly to my preference for that night.

Weight and slip resistance -- this is great! I have a faux marble surface that is slick. They keyboard does a great job of not sliding from it's set position. My mouse-pad seems to go everywhere, but not the keyboard. The weight is very solid. Does not feel cheeky or "plasticy".

Keyboard angle -- the angle is fantastic. Does not strain wrists at all after playing for hours on end, and I feel like the angle of the keyboard enhances my speed for typing noticeably. My average went up by about 5+ WPM after getting the keyboard; whereas I previously had an average keyboard.

You literally feel like you get what you pay for by spending more on a premium keyboard. I would recommend this over and over again to friends and even family.

Cons: Overly-hyped specialty buttons -- I find the "Gamer Mode" with the cross-hair button along with the other (I'm assuming) proprietary buttons to be totally pointless. Their M1-M5 keys on the left side don't seem to do ANYTHING. Albeit, I have not gone out of my way to find their purpose, but I tried using them in a couple of games, and the few games did not register anything when I changed the key-bindings. They may as well not be there. Does not bother me that they are there, I just ignore them unless someone teaches me their usefulness at some point. The Razer Synapse software does not make it any clearer either. I consider it to be a null or moot point across the (key)board. haha...

Does not change color. As I have noted in another review I just posted for some Kraken 7.1 Headphones, it doesn't change color! I have the Naga Epic, and I think it would be fantastic to have a keyboard that changes color. I think Razer is releasing one soon, but it is not this one; and this is the one I have. So for those of you that want a keyboard that changes color, hold off.

Other Thoughts: I have absolutely no regrets about purchasing this keyboard and would do so all over again if this keyboard died on me. It has been absolutely amazing in assisting my gaming and typing performance... Had I known the cons I listed when I got the keyboard, they would not have been enough to stop me from buying it. I suggest any other gamer or typist out there do the same if you're interested in a keyboard like this.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's ok

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate 2014 Black Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: Good spacing
Backlit
Macro Functions are nice
Multiple brightness settings for the backlight
The switches are definitely much more responsive than my old keyboard. The difference between the actuation point on this keyboard and a Cherry MX Blue is DEFINITELY noticeable, and I do like the shorter actuation on the switches.

Cons: There's a very strange resonance every time you press a key. It's on every key on the keyboard, so if you're using this for every day typing (I'm a programmer) then it can get really frustrating.

While I'm gaming, I do not notice this at all, so if you don't do a lot of normal typing, I doubt you'll notice.

As I'm typing this right now my fingers are tingling, and my old mechanical keyboard did not have this problem.

It's my only con for this keyboard, but since my keyboard has to do double duty for both work and gaming, it's not exactly what I'm looking for.

Other Thoughts: If you're used to typing on Cherry MXs then this keyboard may not be for you. If you're coming from membrane keyboards it'll definitely be a MUCH better experience.

At this point I'm likely just going to have two keyboards on my desk. This one for gaming and my MX Blue keyboard for work.

3 out of 5 eggsNot as good as the original

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate 2014 Black Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: Quality keyboard

Cons: Matt finish is not nearly as nice as the original high-gloss finish.

Key response is not as good as original Cherry keys as found in the original design

Green back-light? What happened to the more neutral blue?

Other Thoughts: I am not suggesting that RAZER has cut corners but they clearly made design decisions based on profit margin at the expense of quality to a degree. I was forced to replace the original after three years due to my spilling soda all over the keyboard (shorted out). Anyway, the high gloss finish of the original was beautiful and extremely durable. The dull matt black finish will look terrible over time. Even after three years, the original RAZER featuring real Cherry keys were stronger than this new one with imitation Cherry keys.

5 out of 5 eggsGoing All In.

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate 2014 Black Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: Great Tactile Feel.
I can type really fast on this now.
Macros are a great feature of this.
Every key is fully programmable with the razer synapse 2.0 software.

Cons: Took a bit of time getting used to compared to my old small laptop keyboard.
The matte finish on the bottom gets dirty easily.
The backspace button feels a bit clunky, just a minor annoyance.
The function key doesn't have an LED since u i usually game in the dark, its a minor problem to find.

Other Thoughts: I;m going from an 11.7 Inch laptop with intel celeron to a new 1.5k build. If I'm spending this much i made as well go all the way and get the best mechanical keyboard there is. This is also my first but like i said, it feels great. The clicky keys make a great gaming experience and i can macro combos on games like lol. I give this 5 eggs. I hope this will last since i am planning to stick with razer products for a long time to come. My Deathadder is coming in the mail soon so I'm also excited for that. Can't wait!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsresponse to 2 star review

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate 2014 Black Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: Great keyboard with cherry MX switches which provides a satisfying click, awesome led lights with changeable patterns and color, and with the non buggy Razer synapse 2.0

Cons: I think they are only made with cherry MX red switches but that really is a minor con.

5 out of 5 eggsthe real review

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate 2014 Black Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: I do not own the keyboard, however alot of people on here are mistaken this for the older model. the 2014 is similar however the main big difference is that the keys are ALOT more quiet when typing. I have played around with many razer products and own many.. I did not want the old blackwidow due to the of sound it makes when typing... so I got the deathstalker... this black widow, the 2014 model just makes less sound

Cons: no loud clicking if you like it.. get the NON-2014 model is you do like the loud clicking
