5 out of 5 eggsGood but loud

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate Gaming Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: Solid construction. Great features like macro keys, volume controls, USB and headset plugs, etc.

Cons: Very loud compared to a non-mechanical keyboard - you are warned. (I don't know how it compares to other mechanical keyboards.) They tried to make the font futuristic, but it's just hard to read. Some of the keys have "paint" instead of "LEDs" for some of the writing - for example, the "5" is LED-lit, but the "%" on the same key is not - this can make it hard to use if you're in a dark room and don't remember offhand which key is for which character.

Other Thoughts: I knew it would be loud, but this is nuts! It's fine for me because I live alone, but don't expect anyone to sleep in an adjacent room. Definitely do not get in an office setting.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful product. Easy plug and play. Lovely typing feel and sound.

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate Gaming Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: Simple and easy setup, basically plug and play.
Wonderful typing experience
Wonderful typing sound ( Audible clicks )
Decent lighting features
Fully programmable keys

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Coming from using $10 membrane keyboards from local supermarkets all my life and going to this beautiful piece of equipment was quite different at first. The key spacing was a little bit odd for me, causing me to hit different keys when trying to type, but after about 10 minutes of typing and using the keyboard, everything was smooth sailing. Wonderful product.

5 out of 5 eggsCompletely changed my perspective on keyboards.

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate Gaming Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: This was the first mechanical keyboard I have ever owned. Typing is an absolute pleasure and I have never once wanted to go back to a cheaper keyboard. I have now had this keyboard for over 3 years and it works flawlessly and it probably will for quite some time. The only reason I would ever buy another keyboard would be to upgrade to the Chroma which simply has more colors and features.

Pros -
Comfortable to type
Mechanical sound
LEDs are as bright as you want or as dim as you want. Very pleasant to look at.
Synapse is a very simple program for setting up any macros you want and you can change them up on the fly. Really it's great for any game.
Good quality overall, this keyboard has some weight to it so it doesn't slide around it can stand a beating. I have a toddler who likes to come up and smack my keys when I am not home and has even spilled a drink on it once. You can remove almost all keys easily to clean underneath. as a result there is one key that would stick slightly for awhile but after use it got better. (Not quite sure how).

Cons: I legitimately have no cons about this item.

Other Thoughts: I would strongly suggest if you are interested in a mechanical keyboard you spend the extra few bucks this keyboard may cost you and just do it. You will not for a second think that you may have wasted money.

2 out of 5 eggsA bit of a disappointment

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate Gaming Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: Looks very good, backlighting is well done, top build quality

Cons: Noisy, some keys give a double input

Other Thoughts: I got this keyboard for christmas. It is a replacement for my very old Logitech G15, so this is my first mechanical keyboard. It looks very nice, just as I'd expect from a Razer product. The backlighting is good, and the built-in dimmer works well, too.

However, there are a couple of problems with it. First, and most glaring, is the Razer Synapse software. It's an always-on driver download program, with no clear "don't run at startup" feature. They keyboard itself doesn't actually need Synapse to work, as long as you don't use the USB port or Audio ports. Also, some of the keys are sending a double-input for one press.

One Year Update:
Long story short: not a fan of the mechanical keys. The shape of the board itself does not lend itself well to anything aside from gaming, which is a problem since I write news articles for a gaming site. After around 30 minutes of typing, I start getting cramps in my hands, the keys send a double signal every now and then, and it's just unpleasant to use for an extended amount of time. For simply gaming though, as long as you're just using the WASD and key arrangements like that, it's fine.

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing Build Quality

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate Gaming Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: This keyboard is great, I love having the number pad on the side as well as having the 5 macros on the left hand side to assign to certain commands on my computer. The colors are great and I love the way you can customize it.

Cons: Keyboard is a little loud because it is mechanical, so be weary if you record videos for YouTube or are in a Skype call with someone because it does annoy them.

1 out of 5 eggsFantastic product if your job involves transcription for a stutterer

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate Gaming Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: Solid build quality, ggreat LED illumninnation. Its heft is reaassuring anndn this could probaabaly bbe used for self-defennce in a pinnnch.

Cons: Keys startted to repeat almost immediataaely. Managggegable aat first, but aftter several monnths I'mm throwinngg in the towel. Your productivity is goingg to suffer. I would nont recommend unless you aaare a fann of stoppingg on every other word and ggoingng back to correct, or otherwise lookinngg like a complete illiteraate.

Other Thoughts: Add innn their intrusive driver packaaggge and their innsistence aat always beinnng connected, Razer products in ggegnneral aarae bbecomig an exercise in masochism tto the extent that the Marquis de Sade would likely cry 'Uncnle'.

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate Gaming Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: Great lighting, looks fantastic. Loud.

Cons: Within a year multiple keys are double pressing. These mechanical switches are definitely not up to par with the cherry mx switches. Inconsistent key feel out of the box. This will likely be my last razer product. Im going to try and get this RMA'd. We'll see how their customer service is.

3 out of 5 eggsNot bad. Not worth the price.

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate Gaming Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: +Good form factor
+Nice switches
+Good customization via Razer's app

Cons: -Lighting started to die around 7 months into use (had the 'N' key die fairly early, experienced various lighting issues from there out)
-Plastic frame

Other Thoughts: The keyboard isn't bad, but for the same price you can get a Corsair with better Cherry switched and more reliable lighting. As with all Razer products, you're paying probably a ~20% higher price just for the name. Is this keyboard was priced in the $80-100 range, it would get a full 5 eggs, but for the price of $130, it's 3 at best.

Only buy this if you are a Razer purist. For most other gamers, especially those going for the actual best gear, grab a Corsair.
