5 out of 5 eggsGreat! Should of known that it was noisy.

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow 2014 Tournament Edition Black Essential Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: The keyboard is super responsive. In less then one minute from plugging it in, the driver asked me to install a custom driver.
I do like the keyboard, and how compact it is.

Cons: Noise.
You might think that not having the numberpad on the right is also a cons, but honestly. I can deal with using the numbers above the keyboard also and using the enter key on the center.

Other Thoughts: I love it! If only I was able to iron out the intentional noise that it does to tell that you have clicked that button for sure..
Its great, but I will be returning for a silent keyboard!

2 out of 5 eggsUnreliable - stay away

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow 2014 Tournament Edition Black Essential Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: * Compact - ideal for traveling and center desk placement

* Keypress feel - the keys feel absolutely amazing. They have a very satisfying clack when you type with them, and they require very little effort to press, which reduces finger strain.

* Handy volume keys [via keypress combination] are a nice addition

Cons: * Quality of the switches is absolute shlit.

* Half of the keys don't have the clicking sound
After only 3 months, one of the keys began to repeat keypresses (you press the key once and it types it twice or more)

*Periodically, at random moments, the keyboard just loses connection to my laptop. After a moment it reconnects and works again.

*Less than 3 months into ownership, Razer required me to spend my own $10 to ship the keyboard back to them for an RMA.

Other Thoughts: I owned this keyboard for 3 months and two of the keys randomly started double-typing. When you press the key, sometimes it would repeat the keystroke on its own. I looked online about the problem and found out that this is pretty common with the 2014 version. After 2013, they stopped using reliable CherryMX switches and started using their own in-house switches. I won't lie, they feel amazing and I absolutely LOVE typing with them, but when you spend $60 on a keyboard wtih absolutely no frills, at the VERY LEAST you expect some reliability. Meanwhile, my brother's Logitech with CherryMX switches has lasted 5 years of extremely heavy use and the only issue he's had with it is that he used it so much that the powdercoat (paint) on the keys wore off. This is a problem of logitech using cheap paint, but with regards to the reliability of the switches, they sound, feel, and perform as if the keyboard was just taken out of the box.

5 out of 5 eggsFunctions

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow 2014 Tournament Edition Black Essential Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: It works
Mechanical keys at a low price, Currently 60 dollars
compact

Cons: Keys are slightly smaller than normal keys, takes some getting used to.

USB connector sits at an angle requiring a proprietary cable to fit correctly, though a normal cable will work.

Other Thoughts: I don't really see the big deal behind mechanical keyboards, I can type a little faster and movement in games is slightly faster due to the actuation, but all and all I think this may be my first and last mechanical.

Some improvement suggestions:
Cut off the right side where the arrow keys are, just gotta keep print screen and delete, then extend the keyboard by a bit so it fits normal keycaps.

Add a Wireless Bluetooth model, and fix the angled connector.

The feet of the keyboard hold it in place, but a bit too well for my taste, moving it around is a bit of a chore, but that's more personal than anything else.

5 out of 5 eggsNice all-purpose keyboard

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow 2014 Tournament Edition Black Essential Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: Feels great, nice and clicky and doesn't require too much force to actuate but just enough to prevent from misclicks.

Detachable Micro-USB cable is braided and high quality. Velvet carrying case is a nice touch.

Very compact, which is perfect for my limited keyboard drawer space.
Doesn't look ridiculously gaudy like other gaming peripherals.

Cons: Wobbles slightly- the keyboard is not perfectly flat. Also, I wish all of the keys were backlit. Not sure how much money they saved by skimping on this feature... a couple of bucks?

4 out of 5 eggsGreat keyboard, but loud

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow 2014 Tournament Edition Black Essential Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: It's awesome. The ability to create custom Macros, as well as the price for such a well-built monitor, is truly amazing. The current price for this is a steal.

The tactile feedback is really nice, and I don't have to press hard at all to type quickly, which is always a nice thing. Some other Razer keyboards have issues with keys having to be pressed too hard before registering, which is not present here.

Cons: It's loud. I live with other people and we share a workspace, and it can be rather irritating when I'm typing since the keys are rather loud. If I had to do it again, I'd definitely get the Razer Blackwidow Stealth Tournament edition instead, since it's 10 dollars cheaper and is quieter than this keyboard.

4 out of 5 eggscould have been better

This review is from: RAZER Blackwidow 2014 Tournament Edition Black Essential Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: the price obviously was the selling point for this keyboard. at $60, you just simply can't go wrong. not much changed from 2013, except the actual switches. These razer switch isn't MX Blues, but it isn't that bad. I wish these switches are more clicky and louder like MX Blues.

Cons: Bottom rubber stops are uneven and its wobbling. Razer switch suppose to be MX Blue copies, but it rather sounds more like MX Browns.

Other Thoughts: For the price, you will not find better mechanical boards out there. This board is my 7th mech board, and I know my boards.
