1 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with Linux

This review is from: Logitech G710 PLUS USB Wired Gaming Mechanical Keyboard- Cherry MX Brown

Pros: Good feel for typing, not too noisy.

Cons: When used with any of several distros of Linux, this keyboard will type a constant stream of 6's once booted. Generally moving the volume roller stops the stream of 6's until the next boot.

There is a driver patch to fix this, but you have to build and install it yourself.

Other Thoughts: I have never heard of a keyboard having this type of OS specific behavior. While it's not unusual for extra keys or non-standard functionality to not carry over to Linux, I have never heard of a keyboard that fails basic functionality when used with Linux.

Logitech's response on their forums to this problem is that the keyboard is designed for Windows and Linux is not supported.

1 out of 5 eggsLogitech Gaming Products are Junk

This review is from: Logitech G710 PLUS USB Wired Gaming Mechanical Keyboard- Cherry MX Brown

Pros: If I could actually use the keyboard, I might write something here.

Cons: I unboxed this keyboard and plugged it in, excited to be upgrading from my current logitech board. Unfortunately, I can't even get it to register key presses.

Over the course of trying it without LGS drivers, with LGS 7, 8, and 8.1 drivers (64 and 32 bit), and in four different sets of usb ports, I successfully typed one word, and after that a repeating sequence of three characters until I unplugged the keyboard and gave up.

I'm not a tech genius, but I'm pretty tech savvy. If I can't even type on it, I don't understand how anyone could be expected to use it successfully.

Other Thoughts: I also have a Logi G930 headset that is barely functional at best. 90% of the time it turns my volume down to 0 immediately upon connecting, and if I want to use it I have to plan on restarting my computer once to begin and once when I'm done in order for anything to work properly.

I wish I had learned my lesson after the headset purchase. I was considering buying another logitech mouse soon but after this experience I will be investigating other options instead.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb keyboard. Cherry Brown = magic

This review is from: Logitech G710 PLUS USB Wired Gaming Mechanical Keyboard- Cherry MX Brown

Pros: 1. Macro keys 6x3
2. Selectable levels of backlight
3. Separate backlight selection for asdw keys
4. Cherry brown = perfect typing keys
5. Removable palm rest
6. Multimedia keys
7. Very well-designed customization UI

Cons: I'm not a big fan of the orange border around the macro keys. I wish it was removable

No CD included. Software had to be included. But since software gets of out date so quickly anyway, this is a very minor con.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this keyboard as a cascade: I had a CMStorm cherry red keys keyboard on my laptop which became unreliable after a fall to the floor loosened the USB connection. So I moved my desktop Corsair K95 (also Cherry Red keys) keyboard to the laptop and purchased this G710+

Now I'm glad I knocked that laptop keyboard on the floor! The switch from Cherry Red to Brown was a very good move.

a) Cherry Brown keys work better in both software development and gaming modes. than the Reds. I don't know why, but I immediately saw an improvement in my typing accuracy.

b) The Corsair keyboard, over the 6+ months I have owned it, has had 13 LED backlights fail. It's nice to have the whole complement back.

c) For my use, 6 macro keys in 3 modes is far more useful than the Corsair 18x3, and take up a lot less room.

d) I prefer the multimedia key location on the Logitech. They're up at the top, easily reached. On the Corsair, they're hidden above the numeric keypad.

e) Whether it was the very sensitive Cherry Reds on the old keyboard, or a software issue, I get far fewer "where did that keypress come from???" moments with the Logitech. Seriously, how do you type "are" and get an "i" in there?

5 out of 5 eggsI like this keyboard

This review is from: Logitech G710 PLUS USB Wired Gaming Mechanical Keyboard- Cherry MX Brown

Pros: The brown keys have enough hesitation to keep my lazy fingers from making unintended keystrokes. The keys do not take as much force as an IBM M keyboard and that is kewl. Gamers who use blue keys die at my hands now. I was a IBM M user only because I had box full of them and each one died from beer and other beverages. This keyboard just survived its first full on splash from me. That is why I am even making this comment. BTW, blue keys were designed to mimic the asymmetrical IBM model M keyboard. You don't want that.

Fancy keys are available from third party sources at reasonable money. Gotta love Cherry taking over the scene and being out of patent.

The keyboard matches my ten year old MX-518 mouse. Even the mouse can take a swim in beer and soda. Two mouse cords and many feet later though.

Every part of the keyboard is repairable with parts from third party vendors.

Cons: The keypad plus key back lite key was dead on delivery. The F-10 key has an off white color. I haven't been able to break any of the keys so far. I was worried going from the destructible IBM plastic to ABS plastic. But ABS if properly mixed is just as strong. And logitech has found the proper formula. It is just a matter of their suppliers following the specs.
This keyboard has made me see how a keyboard can be made and my next purchase will be a fully hardware programmable keyboard that can put on a light show at my finger tips. LOL.
The Dukes of Hazard orange surrounding the G keys is a deadly design flaw.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst ever Mechanical Keyboard

This review is from: Logitech G710 PLUS USB Wired Gaming Mechanical Keyboard- Cherry MX Brown

Pros: Solid board
Wrist rest (say that five times fast)
18 programmable keys, and different profiles that can load automatically with programs
Volume scroll
Game mode button
Backlit keys can be dimmed separately from game keys

Cons: Game key back lighting cannot be changed: You are stuck with only being able to change the WASD and (up down left right) key brightness only

Other Thoughts: Purchased this from an outside vendor store, simply because I dont know what mechanical keys feel like. Very happy i went with this keyboard and cherry Brown's

1 out of 5 eggsTERRIBLE Customer Support

This review is from: Logitech G710 PLUS USB Wired Gaming Mechanical Keyboard- Cherry MX Brown

Pros: While it works, it's a keyboard. The switches are very nice, the backlights are decent, and bright, the media keys work as desired. I've always enjoyed Logitech products, and support, but this was an exception...

Cons: As I don't expect everyone to read all of this, let me preface it with this: Do not buy this keyboard, it has lots of issues with broken keys and dying backlights. Look into the Corsaid K70 instead, for a few more dollars, you get a much nicer keyboard, with a VERY high build quality, and superior customer service.

After a couple of months, as TONS of other users have stated, one of my Windows keys broke where it connects to the switch, no big deal I figured, I've got 2 anyways, however about a week later, my second one broke, in the same way. So I contacted support, my roommate, has a Razer mechanical keyboard, on which his space bar broke, and he emailed Razer, who asked for the serial number, and part number, and mailed him a new space bar, about a one week ordeal, I figured it would probably be that easy. Boy was I wrong. On the phone, the Logitech rep verified my SN and PN, and the issue. She then told me that Logitech could NOT mail keys to you, they would require me to mail them my keyboard, which they would inspect, and then send a new keyboard, or my keyboard with some new keys, back to me. This wouldn't be a big deal if I had another keyboard, but in order to use my computer for the week or two that it would be gone, I would need to purchase another keyboard, which I don't want to do.

Beyond that, the representative asked me to also email them a picture of my receipt to verify that it was still covered by warranty. I looked up the product on wikipedia, and it was released in mid 2013, with a 3 year warranty. Meaning that, as we approach 2015, it is literally not possible for the keyboard to be out of warranty. The optimist in me wants to say that this was just an oversite on Logitech's part, simply following standard process, but the pessimist in me sort of thinks it's a bit more of a shady practice, then again I've had to deal with Comcast support recently, which is a pretty close tie with Comcasts.

I expressed my concerns and dissatisfaction through email to one of the emails that was sent to me, the agent ignored most of the email and replied with a very canned response that "unfortunately it is their process to not mail keys, that I would be required to mail them my keyboard, or they would not complete the RMA". I asked if there was any way for them to go around the process and ship me the keyboard with a return label and package for me to return mine, or even a cross-ship to speed things up. Again, a canned response stating that my "request to cross-ship has been denied by the warranty department".

TL;DR Avoid Logitech, I'd rather deal with Comcast customer support at this point.

Other Thoughts: Overall, the keyboard was nice while it lasted, but Logitech's customer support is not about supporting you, it is inconvenient and impersonal, look at buying a Corsair K70 instead.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good!

This review is from: Logitech G710 PLUS USB Wired Gaming Mechanical Keyboard- Cherry MX Brown

Pros: Sturdy, heavenly typing experience.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Keyboard came as requested, took a couple of days but so far I'm loving this keyboard, as my first mechanical I was looking forward to the typing experience, and I cant say I'm disappointed.

Decided to go with this rather than another brand because Logitech has never steered me wrong, they KNOW how to make an input device, I'm still using a MX518 today, their stuff does not seem to break. This keyboard came with a metal back plating, this feels very strong to the touch.

Keyboard was also shipped quickly and arrived without any problems, would buy again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Mechanical Keyboard

This review is from: Logitech G710 PLUS USB Wired Gaming Mechanical Keyboard- Cherry MX Brown

Pros: Typing on this keyboard is amazing... the feedback is perfect, the accuracy is perfact, the level of comfort when your hands are in the neutral position while using the palm rest is also very high. The system software is also fantastic... I own a logitech G930 and had previously installed the system software for the same thing. I was pleased to discover that without having to install any drivers or additional software the g710+ was already registered and added to the software and it automatically applied profiles etc for most games, which was very convenient. The software itself is also very simple, straightforward and has all of the features you'd expect. The USB passthrough works great, and there is also a cable channel under the keyboard (not sure what for - but could be useful for headsets etc) with a channel cut out for the palm rest as well.

Cons: My only con is with the lighting. Don't get me wrong - the build quality of everything with this keyboard is outstanding. That being said, some of the keys seem to have an inconsistency with their lighting, especially with keys that have multiple lines of text (eg Printscrn/sysrq). One line on the top will be lit while another on the bottom is not. Not a big deal at all, but its really the only thing I could find that wasn't perfect.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Keyboard

This review is from: Logitech G710 PLUS USB Wired Gaming Mechanical Keyboard- Cherry MX Brown

Pros: This is the first mechanical keyboard I ever bought and so far I have been more than impressed with it. The typing on the Cherry MX Browns feel amazing, the back lighting looks good, and the programmable keys work great.

Cons: The price is a bit high, but the price matches the quality.

Other Thoughts: While I enjoy the feel of the Cherry MX Browns, not everyone does. I would recommend you trying out browns or other switches to see which you like.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Keyboard - Keys broke

This review is from: Logitech G710 PLUS USB Wired Gaming Mechanical Keyboard- Cherry MX Brown

Pros: Difficult to talk about any pros when you can't even use the keyboard

Cons: Left Ctrl key broke (on the bottom where it connects to the keyboard); after this I swapped it for the right Ctrl key, that broke too.
The Keyboard is COMPLETELY useless.

Stay away from this product!

Other Thoughts: This is a major issue that is widespread. With Logitech service giving me the round-around, I will now be boycotting ALL future Logitech products.

Stay away from this product!
