3 out of 5 eggssolid keyboard but.....

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire Rapid - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Blue Switches

Pros: great solid keyboard
the font on the keyboard is nice
nice rubberized feel
seems really durable

Cons: some of the keys are inconsistent like they aren't as clicky and don't have much of a tactile feedback i just got this board today.

Other Thoughts: this is my first mechanical keyboard
paid quite a bit for this board and thinking it was going to last me for at least a few years but nope sadly only a few hours....

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Keyboard, One flaw

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire Rapid - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Blue Switches

Pros: Responsive, well built, and compact. This is my first mechanical keyboard and it is very fun to type on. There isn't any extra software needed to use this keyboard, just plug and play.

The cable management is nice, which is under the keyboard, because I am using it for my laptop and I needed the cable to go only one way and not straight out in front.

Cons: The one flaw I have experienced is the keyboard's inability to work with my USB 3.0 port when booting the computer. It works when I unplug the keyboard, plug it in, then start my computer. However, if I keep the keyboard plugged in, shutdown, turn on, the computer hangs and does not boot. very annoying.

I do have a USB 2.0 port that works fine.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I do apologize that you are having issues with your USB 3.0 port. In instances like these, not all manufacturer's make these ports the exact same and some will have kinks with certain peripherals and even USB 3.0 devices. I personally have a Toshiba Laptop with a USB 3.0 and when I plug in my USB 3.0 enabled external hard drive, my computer won't boot into windows. A reverse problem from yours. Check with your laptop manufacturer to see if they have any work arounds or solutions in this case. If not, then yes, use your USB 2.0 ports to avoid the issue.

If you ever have any more questions, concerns, or comments, please call us at 888.624.5009 or use the Cooler Master Fanzone to communicate with us through livechat or Tickets.

Please let us know how we can help in the future.

Respectfully,

Robert N.

5 out of 5 eggsI've never been so impressed!

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire Rapid - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Blue Switches

Pros: I like how this keyboard feels. I can't believe at the fact that I've been missing out on mechanical keyboard for years! I've played PC gaming for quite some time now and never really believed in premium keyboards like this one. I mean I thought all keyboards were the same. But when I got this package today, everything went black for a minute and I just glared at it. This thing is very compact and it fits on my desk perfectly! Well it's true, once you start using mechanical keyboard, you will never go back to the cheap plastic ones!

Cons: There are no cons for me. I will update when as the time continues to move forward.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to have to get used to typing on a mechanical keyboard. I've made so many errors just typing this review. But every time I press a key, it feels so comfortable! Now, time to play some games!

2 out of 5 eggsAfter Almost Two Years of Use

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire Rapid - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Blue Switches

Pros: 1) Beats the heck out of a membrane keyboard. The only people who seem to voice their disapproval or indifference to mechanical keyboards has never used one.

2) Tenkeyless version makes it much easier to use on a keyboard tray or a small desk. Also makes it easier to bring along to LAN parties or when relocating your PC.

3) The detachable cable is a nice feature and it has some excellent braiding on it. There is also a channel along the entire rear portion of the base of the keyboard so you can guide the cable in the channel either straight out of the back of the keyboard or to the back-left or back-right of it.

4) Lights are only on the keys that need them. I would like to know when I have my Caps Lock on, but I don't need blinding LEDs on every single key. It was nice that this model had only the essentials.

5) Comes with a keycap puller. Very convenient.

Cons: 1) I purchased this with the Cherry Blacks, and realized shortly after that I made the wrong decision in switches. The black switches are very mushy and require a decent amount of force to bottom out, making typing with them slower than it would be with a different switch type and making using them for gaming rather poor. More my fault than the keyboard's though for making the wrong choice.

2) The switches have become more mushy and worse over time. I've been noticing over the past couple months that the switches are not as responsive as they used to be and have noticed some switches not activating at all when the key is bottomed out. Also the keys themselves seem to feel more tired and weak than they used to feel.

3) The finish on the keys I use most frequently have begun to wear off. I've noticed almost all the letter keys have begun fading and all of them are completely smooth to the touch as opposed to having any sort of grit to them like they did when the keyboard was new. Also my WASD and QWER keys are going to be completely devoid of labeling soon. Not a huge deal, but it is something worth mentioning.

3) I've also noticed that while the cable has a nice insulation, the connector that docks in the keyboard itself has begun to show wear from it being connected/disconnected and also that the connector itself has begun to wobble a little bit. I'm sure this is going to cause connection issues in the future.

4) Lastly, not a huge fan of the overly decorative bezel and keys with the odd font and the over excessive branding of CoolerMaster. I mean sure, having your brand on the keyboard is one thing, but it's another to have the model name twice as well as the logo three times on the bezel, twice on the Windows keys, and then include two spare keys that have your company logo on it as well as an obnoxious moniker on the space bar. This could easily be at least halved with a spare keycap set, of course. I was expecting the model in the picture with the black bezel though, so I was disappointed when this one arrived.

Other Thoughts: All in all, if I were to go back and do it again, I would have bought a keyboard with different switches than the blacks and I probably would have purchased a different model after all of the problems this one has begun experiencing. I know that two years is a lot to get out of a keyboard, especially when you use it every day and use it for gaming, but if I'm paying the mechanical keyboard price I'd like to get the mechanical keyboard quality.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I'm sorry that your keyboard has had some decent wear, but congrats on all of the use and hope it has brought much gaming/PC joy. If you are still within the 2 year purchase, you are still under warranty for a replace your keyboard. I have provided the link below to our FanZone and an RMA instructional link. I would recommend having your serial number and a photo of your purchase receipt. Register your product and then you can apply for an RMA under MY PRODUCTS. We will approve your request. Once you receive your RMA number, write it clearly on the shipping box to help expedite the process.

If you would like to commit to an Advance RMA where we authorize a cross shipment, please complete the following RMA steps. Make sure you have your RMA number ready, call us at 888-624-5099 to speak with a representative for further instruction.

To note, in the future when keys wear out or if the USB cable fails under warranty; in Fanzone, there is a link for Parts Request where you can order replacement items for these.

If you have any further comments or questions, please let me know by following the Livechat/Ticket links in Fanzone or call us directly at 888-624-5099.

Repsectfully,

Robert N.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire Rapid - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Blue Switches

Pros: -Great switches.
-it contends with more expensive keyboards that I own in terms of build quality and performance.
-Lovely MX Blue switches. This is for the clicky clack noisy lovers.
-Heavy/doesn't move around.
-Braided micro-usb cable.
-Comes with a USB/PS2 adapter and a keycap remover.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: If you're on the fence about entering the wonderful world of mechanical keyboards, this is definitely a great entry level board and can handle quite a bit of abuse and at its price range, the build quality is astounding. It's also a dream to type on.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Keyboard for gaming!

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire Rapid - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Blue Switches

Pros: Good tactile feedback.
Good for the price of the board (I have the Blues)
loud but it's good if you're wearing a headset it sounds nice it's just a little louder than my headset at all times which is nice so I know when I press it down far enough
Very small so I can have my mouse very close to my keyboard if I need to quickly start typing.

Cons: Would've liked to have seen more back-lighting
PS/2 adapter doesn't work at all

Other Thoughts: Will update more in the future

5 out of 5 eggsgreat clicky clack!

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire Rapid - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Blue Switches

Pros: perfect size. who really needs a numeric keypad?

Cons: nada

Other Thoughts: i really wish it had a USB port on the right hand side just like my daskeyboard has. i use that port on my daskeyboard for the micro wireless mouse adapter. this way my mouse is never more than a few inches away from the adapter, which provides for a perfect signal, and probably less drain on the mouse batteries as well.

5 out of 5 eggsBest budget Mech Keyboard

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire Rapid - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Blue Switches

Pros: There are cheaper boards than this but you'll see the compromise for those cheaper boards. This board offers the best performance for the cheapest price.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: It's Blue switches so keep in mind that they make a lot of noise.
