5 out of 5 eggsExcellent keyboard! Dat Durability!

Pros: Purchased from another online retailer in June, 2013. It has been my daily driver at work for nearly 3 years. Thats 8 hours per day, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Adjusted for days off and time not typing, I would say I have a solid 4500 hours on this keyboard. Through all of that, every key and LED works flawlessly, just like the day I bought it.

Another bonus is this is a very basic keyboard with a standard keyboard layout. No funky Enter key or Caps Lock keys. No mystery functions like the CM Storm Devastator (Scroll Lock to turn on/off lights, really?!?!). Everything is where you would expect it and works like you would expect it to.

There is also some software for this keyboard, but its not really a big deal. I just used it to change the on board profile so the left "Storm" key would work like a regular Windows key. Its in the same spot on the keyboard as the Windows key. After making that change, I uninstalled the software and never messed with it again. This keyboard has been unplugged several times and left without power over many weekends. It has never lost the config.

Cons: I will say that the finish is wearing off of the A, S, D, E, C and Shift keys as well as the Spacebar. The palm rest is also pretty beat up. With as much typing as I do, none of this is surprising. The keyboard just looks well loved and used, not beat up or anything.

Other Thoughts: So why use a gaming keyboard at work? Why not? It types well and it looks cool. I get compliments on it all the time. The MX blues are fantastic keys to type on. What more could you want? Also, I use my keyboard and mouse more at work than at home. So to me, it makes sense to have some very nice peripherals where they are going to get the most use. I know I don't use my gaming keyboard at home nearly as much as the one at work.

Another question is why write this review, its really really really late to the game since the keyboard is discontinued. Well, someone might be looking at picking one of these up used, or researching past reviews of Cooler Master keyboards to see if they should buy a current model. Maybe this review will help?

For me, I will definitely purchase another CM Storm / Cooler Master mechanical keyboard when I am ready to replace or upgrade my home or work keyboards. They have earned some repeat business.

5 out of 5 eggsmy first mechnical keyboard!

Pros: mx-blues with the tactile feedback, great feel on my fingers.

Cons: the clicky sound is really loud! I should have went with browns.

Other Thoughts: The "click" is already loud, if you bottom out your keys, there will also be a "clack" sound which makes it even louder. I put rubber o-rings on each key of my keyboard and it helps a little with the sound, it prevents the keys from bottoming out so co clack sound.
The clicky sound is takes a while to get used to.

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: This is a good keyboard, when it works, and my gripe isn't even with the keyboard. (see cons/other thoughts)

Cons: The keyboard stopped working almost 4 months after purchase, with absolutely no reason for it at all! I RMA'd it, and am waiting for a return phone call. (see other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: This is a message, not to newegg but to Cooler Master, you guys need to get your customer service act together. I don't know what I have to do to even be able to get someone on the phone and talk to them! At first, when I RMA'd the keyboard, I got a quick response, however, I have been waiting for 3 -4 months now, and I still don't have a keyboard, which I expected. I set up to get an exchange with cooler master for an upgraded version of the keyboard, because this one is no longer in production, but it has taken too long, and yesterday, I was called by them to be able to get another option, and have been trying to call them back ever since! No one has answered their phones, and their machine will not stop hanging up on me!!! This is ridiculous, I have been a cooler master supporter for a very long time, and their equipment is top notch, I'm not knocking that, it's just their customer service that needs SOOO much work/help. I am severely displeased with this, and would like for Cooler Master to, at the very least, respond to one of my emails sooner than a week later. I do not believe I will purchase another cooler master product if this is the way they treat their customers, especially those who have been nothing but loyal to them.

Manufacturer Response:

I'm very sorry for the troubles with your Trigger and our support on it. The Triggers fell into a unique situations towards the end of 2013 where the keyboards were discontinued and no longer in production, but their replacement, the Trigger Z, had kept being delayed for various reasons, which meant that at some point, we were out of Triggers for RMAs and didn't have their direct replacements available either. At the time of your posting here, I'm inferring you received a call about the Trigger Z that we finally have in stock and are shipping out to waiting Trigger RMAs. It is happenstance, though, that our incoming phone services have been going through all kinds of technical difficulties during this week making things very difficult for both you and for us.

If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend getting in touch with us via Live Chat using the Contact Us link below to confirm your Trigger Z RMA replacement. At the time of this posting, we are still working on catching up to tickets from the holiday season in which we were closed for most of two weeks. I am sorry for any delays in response to tickets/emails because of this. We are always focused on improving all aspects of our company, from products to service, but it's something that can't happen instantly, though we are learning plenty with situations like yours.

Again, I'm very sorry for the complications. It's a lot of issues falling into place at the same time, but we definitely wish to do better and make sure you are getting the service you require and you deserve.

5 out of 5 eggsBrilliant

Pros: This Keyboard has amazing backlighting, can see no need to have extra levels using a 5vDC, really bright, the red doesnt look washed out at all, Cherry blues are awsome, very strong build quality, the revision I got has a full length shift key, some users dont... surface seems like its got a velvet feel!

Cons: allthough the usb plug is fairly strong could be different and anything but micro usb... just a nit pick that could result in future issues, no PS/2 or NKRO, no big deal. If youve never done it before macros can be confusing to set up, seems like max length for macros seems to be 25 chars...

Other Thoughts: Great overall keybord, but it has its downsides, wish i could have found one with the cherry green switches but couldnt find one, guess they where limited edition, I GOT NEWEGGS LAST ONE !!! and it only cost $99.99

3 out of 5 eggsNow it works, now it doesn't

Pros: CM Storm Trigger is a great keyboard in general. Nice LEDs, 3 different modes, blue switches feel great although I would have purchased brown switches if available, I love this font on the keyboard, comes with a nice matte wrist rest, whole key board is covered in matte, heavy, durable, nice design, worth the price, has macro keys, has media keys

Cons: Although this keyboard is great, it has it's flaws. The box said there was 5 levels of lighting, that's only with an external power supply. Also, after a few gaming sessions the keyboard started to act up; LEDs would start flinkering, the whole keyboard just turns on and off. Rare problem apparently, I could not find any solutions through the internet still trying to fix the problem. Does not come with brown switches, bottom row of keys are pretty uncomfortable, macro program is complicated, OTF macro is complicated and does not work very well, needs an external power supply, num/cap/scr LEDs are too close to numpad so you can't really see the LEDs, cord end that goes into the keyboard does not feel secured, keyboard's stands(the thing that raises your keyboard's angle) does not lock in place when the keyboard is being pushed back, f1-f11 lighting looks really weird because the media part of the key is half lit.

Other Thoughts: Why say there's 5 levels of lighting if you're not going to include the power supply? Why make such a complicated macro program? I also did not purchase this through newegg, i just wanted to point out my problems with this keyboard.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear valued customer,
We sincerely apologize for the troubles you have encountered. The Trigger did come with multiple lighting levels and the ability to charge devices with an unsupplied AC adapter as it was a part not every customer was interested in. The Trigger was previously available with Cherry MX Brown switches as well. As for any technical issues, please feel free to contact us via email or Live Chat and we would be more than happy to help you out.

3 out of 5 eggsDocumentation worthless

Pros: The CherryMX blue keyboard is the best typing keyboards I have seen since the early 80s reminding me of an IBM Selectric typewriter. My accuracy and speed have improved the short time I have had this board. The lit keyboard is perfect for day or night use. Software is good, but should have a help file and a version ID.

Cons: Documentation is the absolute worst I have seen on any product in this price range.(can you say worthless as a mammary gland on a boar) The online manual for the key board drops you to a page not found error (as well as several of the their website. Their downloadable PDF manual consists of one page of pretty much useless information. The fabric covered wires as well as the mini USB port on the keyboard (seems like a full sized port would have been more durable) are not a better idea as the tend to hang instead of slide on the back of a keyboard tray or keyboard slide-out. If you move the keyboard you may well unplug it. The wires do not slide as a vinyl coating would. One must have an internet connection to get driver software which is a 100MB+ download and no CD. No illumination on special key symbols and the symbols are located at the bottom of the key instead the traditional top of key (keys such as @/.,}{:' (ect.) and they are difficult to see. But if you know where they should be, it isn't a huge issue.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a good typing keyboard with macro support and nighttime typing this isn't a bad choice. If you for example want to know how to make the multimedia keys work, well I am still trying to figure that out.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Satisfied

Pros: This is my first mechanical keyboard and I could not be more happy about my purchase. The cherry mx blue switches sound spectacular and work great. I have only had this keyboard for about 2 weeks but everything was extremely easy to install and the macro keys are a great feature.

Cons: I started to notice a slight ping sound when I press the space key but I don't think it's a big deal.

2 out of 5 eggsNot working after 3 weeks

Pros: great design, nice blue switch feel.
decent price when on sale.

Cons: 1, Right storm key now working after 3 weeks can't adjust light or use any media key right now.
2, Very slow customer support .
3, Driver so hard to use.
4,I can use it now, but I have to let the driver software open(can't even put it in system tray).

Other Thoughts: Would not recommend to those who don't have patience for a non-updated- super-hard- to-use driver.
First time purchase a CM Storm product, not sure if I will consider next time.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Sam,

We sincerely apologize for the trouble. Please make sure to plug the keyboard into a USB 2.0 port and not a USB 3.0 port, this will most likely solve any problem you are having regarding needing to have the software open to use the keyboard. If doesn't fix the problem, please contact us asap, so we can replace the keyboard under the 2 year warranty.

3 out of 5 eggsMy Computer Is Too Fast For it

Pros: Great Feel, Programable keys.

Cons: My computer boots to fast and I have to unplug the USB and plug it back it in after boot in order for it to work. (First World Problems) Ultimately had to get a new keyboard (Quick Fire Pro). This is because the keyboard has some onboard memory that takes a while for the motherboard to recognize the device.
