4 out of 5 eggsAlmost Perfect! One annoyance

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire TK - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Brown Switches and Fully Backlit

Pros: - Satisfying click
- integration of arrow keys and keypad is seamless delivering the best of both worlds without the added bulk of having them seperate
- media key
- build quality is top notch

Cons: - no option/menu key
- placement of Fn key
- no way to completely disable LEDs
- arrow LEDs wear out much faster and noticeably dimmer

Other Thoughts: I've had this keyboard for nearly two years, and it's by far my favorite keyboard. I got the version with Cherry MX Brown switches and white LED and it's a nice balance of tactile response and quietness (if you don't bottom out the keys). There are other switch flavors if MX Browns aren't your thing. I love everything about the keyboard, especially the 10-key area giving me the option to have arrow keys or a number pad. It just seems like a no-brainer and it really helps with ergonomics, especially when gaming since the extra width saved allows you to center your shoulders with the screen comfortably.
The one thing that still bothers me to this day is the lack of an option/menu key, or as I used to call it, a "right-click button", making a mouse an absolute necessity. It is replaced by the Fn key making the layout to right of the spacebar alt-win-fn-ctrl. I typically like navigating without a mouse when I can, but the lack of that key makes it more difficult than it needs to be. I would have preferred the Fn key to be where the right Windows key is and have the option/menu button instead of a second windows key that I never use, so a preferred layout of alt-fn-option-ctrl.
The other issue, which is rather knit-picking is there is no way to disable all the LEDs. The arrows are constantly lit up, even when you have the back-light option turned off, and the only way to turn off the arrow LEDs is to have number lock on, but then that turns on the numlock indicator LED. As a result of the always-on arrow LEDs, those lights are noticeably dimmer than the rest of the LEDs on the keyboard. The silver-lining though is that those LEDs are no where near as intrusive as they used to be, reducing the need to have them turn off for media consumption in the dark.
Overall, I love this keyboard, but my one issue is significant enough to dock an egg - there is no excuse to remove a functional key for a redundant one. Sans that issue, it's a perfect keyboard imho. However, given the price, and otherwise flawless design this is my favorite keyboard and can easily recommend to anyone looking for a slightly more compact, but otherwise fully functional mechanical keyboard despite the lack of option key.

1 out of 5 eggsBad solder joints

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire TK - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Brown Switches and Fully Backlit

Pros: Cherry brown switches

Cons: Bad solder joints
Dirty circuit boards that can possibly short out

Other Thoughts: Would be fine if all the keys worked. Mine already has two dead. Time for a different brand. All these "CM Storms" are just Costar boards in a different box. CM is just one company that does this; there are many others, hopefully with better quality control. I'd go with Newegg over CM because of Cooler Master's history of either not properly soldering their circuit boards or in some cases, completely missing solder joints at all. A search for the words quickfire and failure will turn up more.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent keyboard

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire TK - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Brown Switches and Fully Backlit

Pros: Nice look and feel to the keyboard, bright backlight, switches are great, comes with a sturdy cord.

Cons: I miss the "full keyboard" layout more than I thought I would. It's very awkward to try and use page up, page down, etc. when you're used to a standard keyboard.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Keyboard Great Price

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire TK - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Brown Switches and Fully Backlit

Pros: Exactly what I was looking for. If you're looking for a cheap mechanical keyboard that does everything a mechanical keyboard should do then this is exactly what you're looking for too. For the Cherry MX Brown, the backlit keyboard looks beautiful. Love it in white. The keyboard is also a nice size. Like I said, everything I needed.

Cons: Only one. One of the lights burnt out a couple months after using. But from what I've read, it's really only happened to me. Honestly not too noticable, just wish I could have gotten it replaced.

5 out of 5 eggsA great solution to 10 keyless

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire TK - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Brown Switches and Fully Backlit

Pros: 10 Keyless is nice, you gain so much more space on your desk and it also feels better having your mouse closer to WASD. The only problem with 10 keyless is the removal of the numpad. This keyboard combines those middle buttons with the numpad giving a full keyboard experience. It toggles between the two with the numlock button. The arrow keys will light up when the keyboard has disabled the numpad.
The keyboard also has a removable cord using Mini-USB and it can be routed to the left, middle or right side of your keyboard. So if something happen to the cord, it can be replaced very easily.
Back light is very nice too. The white matches pretty much everything and has a lot of brightness levels. You can light up just WASD or everything.
Windows button lock function is great too in case you fat-finger it a lot.
Build quality is 10/10 and the material is a nice rubbery material.

Cons: I switched from Blue switches to this, and the tactile bump is okay but not very obvious, subjectively unnecessary given the price increase and lack of options compared to Reds. Nothing to do with the keyboard, but more of a thought about the switches. However, with this keyboard browns are better in my opinion because they have a white LED while the blue switch version has blue lights and reds have red lights.

Other Thoughts: A great way to jump into 10 Keyless.

2 out of 5 eggsStopped working after ONE day

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire TK - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Brown Switches and Fully Backlit

Pros: Nice key switches, perfect size, durable cable, good key caps.

Cons: Unsure of the reliability of this keyboard. Wouldn't recommend modding this keyboard as a result so you have the option to return it still.

Other Thoughts: My situation is similar of one of the other reviewers of this keyboard. The day the keyboard arrived I took the screws out of the back to remove the front panel to spray paint because there is no white variant of this keyboard. I spray painted the top frame, allowed more than sufficient drying time, reassembled and everything was well. The keyboard worked like a charm. However, when I woke up the next morning the keyboard would NOT connect to my pc.

No matter what I cannot get this keyboard to connect to any pc at all. The keyboard keeps on connecting and disconnecting from my pc without an end. I'm upset a little because before I unscrewed anything I tested the keyboard FIRST and everything checked out just fine. Some cm online associates (who were very helpful) tried extensive trouble shooting with this thing, but it seems there are no solutions in my unique case. All in all, try this keyboard because with the time I had with it I really enjoyed it. I wouldn't risk voiding the warranty though.

Manufacturer Response:

Good Morning Isaiah,

I appreciate the feedback as I was able to test a Quickfire TK on a Windows 10 machine to validate that it indeed works as your case may very well be an isolated issue since your first contact with us several days ago for troubleshooting. Were you able to try disconnecting all your USB devices on your Windows 10 PC and plug it back in once Windows 10 has loaded? If that did not work did you uninstall it in your device manager and reinstall and update the default USB HID drivers? Let me know for any updates.

Regards,

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire TK - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Brown Switches and Fully Backlit

Pros: Great size, backlighting is fantastic, and very light.

Cons: Took the longest to ship of all of my order, over a week compared to 5 days with the others.

Other Thoughts: Takes some time getting used to having to toggle the num lock in order to use the keypad and the arrow keys seamlessly. Definitely not your friend if you need both at the same time.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Support you will ever experience

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire TK - Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Brown Switches and Fully Backlit

Pros: I like the key board

Cons: Support. 3 months into owning this keyboard the led's started to burn out so I opened an RMA on 1/7/15. Today is 3/5/15 and I don't have it back yet. It sat in their warehouse for 6 weeks because the were having issues in the warehouse. Once rcvd into repair, not brown cherry replacements. Would you like another flavor. Lastly, oh we are going to send you a replacement when we get them in stock. They NEVER mentioned that if you had special keys to keeps them so now I have to rebuy an apple key set for the second time.

Other Thoughts: Life is to short to be working with these guys. Buy two cuz you will need something to use as you go thru their 2+ month repair process. For a $160.00 keyboard I would expect some level of service but none to be gotten here.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I do apologize that you have had issues and an unpleasent experience with our service. Since the holidays, our warehouse has had a tremendous time in trying to catch back up on its many requests. During these past few months, we were closed for celebrating the holidays, closed for transitioning our warehouse to a different location, stock issues as much of our replacement stock is stuck overseas from the dock strikes on the west coast, and working with a limited staff. Also, we do not do repairs on keyboard, mice, and much of the product for RMAs, we do full replacements and we apologize about the keycaps as most customers ask or mention these sets when interacting with us through support contact (phone, livechat, tickets). We explain to remove these caps before shipping us the keyboard. If you have not done so, please contact us for an update and we'll look into seeing if we still have your original keyboard where we may help locate those keycaps, as well as looking into what we can do to help resolve this RMA sooner.

You can call us at 888.624.5099 ext 2 or visit our Fanzone for Livechat/Ticket submission links.

Please let us help.
