5 out of 5 eggsExcellent, Excellent Keyboard

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire XT - Full Size Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Red Switches

Pros: -Build quality is (mostly) astounding
-Feels solid
-No stupid LED backlighting
-Relatively cheap price for red switches
-Holds up well under HEAVY strain

Cons: -Material used to top off the keys wears away very quickly. At first the surface of the keys feels a bit more... abrasive? Within a few weeks of heavy use the keys will become very smooth. Not worth taking a egg off though because it doesn't really matter that much to me, but you will notice a difference in feel after a while.

Other Thoughts: Easily the best keyboard I've ever used. Feels fantastic. Can literally type for days on this. I play games where it's required that I mash several keys thousands of times in a relatively short period, and I've yet to feel even the slightest hint of failure from it. This keyboard can take some punishment for sure.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire XT - Full Size Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Red Switches

Pros: Construction is solid and layout is nice and compact. ANSI layout is a pro for me which is why I chose this over the SteelSeries.

True 6KRO. Testing this keyboard vs the other rubber-dome and laptop keyboards I have laying around, the CM Storm Quickfire is the only one that doesn't have blocking problems and reliably tracks 6 keys with roll-over to the next press. Very nice for gaming.

It also comes with a key-puller which is nice if you don't have one.

Cons: The only thing missing from this keyboard I discovered after owning it for two weeks. In trying to use the keyboard more and rely on the mouse less, I found out about the 'menu' key on my other keyboards. When pressed, this key brings up the 'right-mouse' click context menu in many gui applications. However, this keyboard does not include the menu key which is unfortunate.

Other Thoughts: Two neutral remarks:

1) Yes, the Cherry MX Red switches are low force (45n I believe). It is easy to lean over the keyboard and accidentally actuate a key (often the spacebar). But, the light touch is a dream for typing.

2) I'm not a fan of the lettering of the keys, but that is just personal preference; they are easy enough to read. On the other hand, I do like the solid 'red' color underneath the keys. It creates an interesting appearance when looking straight down on the keyboard that really differentiates it from the black 'void' between most rubber dome keyboards.

5 out of 5 eggsMy first mechanical keyboard

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire XT - Full Size Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Red Switches

Pros: No LED lights!!!! The only reason why I went with coolermaster instead of another brand. Is because MOST mechanical keyboards light up in some form.

Simple design and nothing flashy.

Cherry Red switches

So far really comfortable. Red keys aren't completely silent but it is close enough. It provides enough sound to feel like a quality product.

Cons: I wish Cooler Master offered some of those cool looking keys like Corsair did.... but I would trade off this very simple design to not have the LED lights any day of the week.

Other Thoughts: I wish the num lock, caps lock and scroll lock light came in a different color such as green (which is a normal color that most keyboards and peripherals come in)

I also wish the WASD replacement keys came in a different color or texture. Red is fine, but other brands are making it look really cool and sleek matching more with the keyboard instead of having it a complete different color "Red"

I also don't like the "red" background under the keys of the keyboard. But that is not that much of a big deal because the keys are black and it is hard to see anyways.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Keyboard

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire XT - Full Size Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Red Switches

Pros: Really great keyboard. It is durable, very responsive, and after over a month of use I still don't see and sign of wear.

Cons: No lights, but that's more of a gimmick, not worth taking an egg off.

The letters and numbers that depict the buttons on the keyboard feel like stickers that you can scratch off at first, but you get use to it and just to be clear, they are NOT STICKERS, which is also not worth taking an egg off.

Other Thoughts: Buy it. For the price, it is well worth it, especially for gaming.

5 out of 5 eggsClackity Clackity

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire XT - Full Size Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Red Switches

Pros: I'll be writing this for individuals who may have never owned a mechanical keyboard and could be gunshy concerning the price/inexperience anxiety that comes with swapping to a new input type.

I too was rather nervous about laying out $80+ for a keyboard when I felt like my current board was working just fine. Well that nervousness melted away the second I took the CM out of the box. This thing has serious weight to it. The keys are perfectly responsive and sensitive. There is a feeling of control to the inputs that simply isn't there with non-mechanical boards. After typing on a typical bubble board, feeling the keys shudder left/right/up/down with every press I'll be ordering another for office use (though maybe with blue switches).

I'm a gamer, needless to say I'm supremely happy with the product. Every part of this board oozes quality, from the snap-tight adjustable feet, to the USB cord, and of course the inputs themselves.

tl;dr, buy mechanical, you'll be happy

Cons: My only complaint is echoed numerous times in these reviews. My computer is stored to my left and the USB connection on the keyboard is located on the right half of the board. Only a worry for those obsessed with symmetry.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Keyboard

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire XT - Full Size Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Red Switches

Pros: Great keyboard, I got mine with Red switches since I currently have every other keyswitch. I'm completely satisfied and the keyboard feels amazing. Would recommend for the $70 I got it for.

Cons: No LED Backlight/s

Other Thoughts: Great keyboard, no backlight kinda sucks but I'm willing to compromise.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat keyboard. Print on the keys could be better

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire XT - Full Size Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Red Switches

Pros: Bought one on sale with cherry mx red switches for 70 bucks. It's a great keyboard, for me the keys aren't too light and take just enough force to push down. The red arrow WASD keys that come with are nice.

Cons: The print on the keys is pretty awful. It fades very quickly. If you plan on playing games with this keyboard DEFINITELY put the red WASD keys on because the arrows aren't laser printed and they actually last. I'm a big stepmania player. So if you're reading this and you too play stepmania, this keyboard unfortunately isn't the one. I thought after doing some research that cherry mx red switches would be ideal, but in my opinion they're not. If I could go back I would pick blue switches but I'm stuck with this keyboard. The first day I got this keyboard I played a lot of stepmania with it and after ONE day two of my keys faded at least 50%

Other Thoughts: Docked one egg for the print. Only one because I realize that normal users don't repetitively press the same keys like I do for a game. And although I'm not crazy about the print I really, really do like this keyboard a lot.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat gaming keyboard

This review is from: CM Storm QuickFire XT - Full Size Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Red Switches

Pros: My brother has the compact version of this keyboard, which I've gamed on so I knew what I was getting into. I decided to order the full size version with Red Switches because it was on sale.

The keyboard itself is of high quality. It has some weight to it, which keeps it from sliding on your desk. As for gaming, I've noticed a definite improvement in control using the PS/2 connection. In FPS games, my movement is alot more fluid thanks to the linear key action. I've also noticed when I press keys, the register faster. Typing is alot more fluid also. A little awkward at first but becoming more natural everyday.

My biggest concern with ordering this keyboard was the noise mechanical keyboards make. I'm using open-back headphones and I'm not distracted at all by the noise, it is not audible to me.

Cons: The only con is the USB connection on the keyboard. I would have prefered they move the socket more to the center or left. Having it on the right required me to route more wire because my computer is on the left. Hardly a con though.

Other Thoughts: This is by far the best keyboard I've ever used. It's much better than the Microsoft Comfort Natural 3000 I was using previously, which I loved. I would recommend this keyboard (with red switches) to any FPS gamer.
