5 out of 5 eggsNice small keyboard with few compromises.

Comments: Most small keyboards make you give up something. You get stuck with odd layouts, tiny keys, and no extra media keys. This keyboard is the exception to the rule. Important keys like the arrow keys and the backspace key are full size. There's a nice selection of media keys. The layout is fairly standard. Best of both worlds.

I have one of these, and also the LITEON SK-6715. The LiteOn is a fair amount smaller, but has some of the compromises listed above. If you type a lot or use your keyboard for gaming this Ortek is the easier keyboard to use. Key feel is firm, but not harsh or "clicky".

Very good keyboard for places where space is tight. I like mine a lot.

Comments: I like its price, key layout and small footprint. The things striking are the extra labeled functions for the arrow keys, but those are optional in operation.

I dislike that it requires a somewhat firm and indefinite keystroke but so far I have not suffered RSI--there is a sticker on the back concerning the possibility. The angle of the keyboard is good; there are feet to increase it.

The technology and age are evidently old as the packaging touts Win98/2000 compatibility; the plunger-style key switches make typing quiet, but they require more effort than keyboards with snappier scissor-switches, which tend to be lower-profile and have a shorter, well-defined stroke. The keys have a large face size as well, with the tradeoff being that the corners on the keys are a tad sharp.

The multimedia keys are of high quality: plastic buttons with rubber plungers above contacts on the unit's controller PCB. A small nuisance is that some of the solderwork was covered with hotglue, particularly around the LEDs.

With the disclaimer that I most likely improperly handled the unit since I did take it apart for custom modifications, the integrated NumberPad on my unit failed to work after a while. Up until then I also did not bother to try the drivers as it worked fine without them and I didn't care for the multimedia keys. I decided to try its drivers but was unable to find a serial number other than the one on the back of the unit, so the software installation never proceeded.

Comments: Great little keyboard. I prefer small notebook style keyboards. This is the perfect solution for people like me: small footprint, small price.

5 out of 5 eggsNice!

Comments: I usea laptop daily so this little keyboard for at home fits the bill. It is solid and best of all is very silent. extra Versato features are a bonus. Highly recommended for those used to the laptop layout. What would we do without newegg!
