The Virtually Indestructible Keyboard, a silicon-based flexible computer keyboard, features a unique combination of durability and soft, comfortable feel. The washable, "roll-able" keyboard has been called "the best thing to happen to typing since the backspace key."

The VIK combines state-of-the-art technology with practical design to produce the perfect keyboard. The unique layout offers quick, reflexive typing action that is not only silent, but also more comfortable than standard hard plastic keyboards. The "flat-out" design eliminates negative-angle wrist stress, an unfortunate and impractical holdover from the archaic days of manual typewriters.

The silicon-based material is impervious to most anything including water, coffee and cleaning solutions. From the classroom to the factory floor, the Virtually Indestructible Keyboard is poised to revolutionize how the world types.

4 out of 5 eggsGood construction

Pros: Good construction, washable.

Cons: Not as easy to type on as standard keyboards, and the print screen button is close the backspace button.

2 out of 5 eggsPractical Tec, not Grand

Pros: This keyboard is slim and portable. One can roll it up into a small space. Though I don't plan on spilling tea onto it as I did with its late, lamented predecessor, I'm confident that it would survive the shock.

Cons: One needs to be very positive in pressing each key which slows down typing. A light tap of a key won't register the keystroke and a little delay in releasing the key can result in repeat letters. Manufacturing vicissitudes have created some oddities in the layout. For example, the shift bars are a pair of buttons rather than a longer bar. The space bar is also 1 wide and 2 narrower buttons. Those oddities aren't so much a fault as they are a distraction.

Other Thoughts: I am glad that I now own this keyboard but plan to retire it soon to serve as a back up unit awaiting the next time my cat or I am klutzy enough to kill my main keyboard with a spilled drink. If I were to use it as my standard keyboard it would slow my typing significantly and increase my typos. If I needed a readily portable, full-sized keyboard for some portable device I'm sure that this would be a constant companion. Ultimately I'm glad I own it and will feel confident that I can quickly replace a damaged standard keyboard in the future by pulling this one out of my closet.

2 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: Flexable, quiet.

Cons: Zero key sticks, even though rubber part is not stuck to electronics. Don't buy this. It's a piece of garbage.

3 out of 5 eggsNot as good as it used to be

Pros: Silicone, easily to clean, durable.

Cons: Stiff keys and some goofy key placements.

Other Thoughts: I've owned two of these. The first I got maybe 2-2.5 years ago (a previous model) for my home computer. It was odd at first, but had very smooth typing. Loved it.

I got this model about a year ago at work. Much stiffer keys, making typing more error-prone. It did loosen up after a while, or maybe I got used to it. Still not smooth like the old model. They also messed up some key placements, especially the right Ctrl key. Still annoys me at work.

For those complaining about air pockets, there is a little valve on the box where the cable comes out. Look for a little circle cut in the skin, its a plug you can remove. Then you can work the air out and replace the plug. The plug may be attached by a strand of silicone inside, so don't just yank it at first.

My older one finally lost function in the X and CapsLock keys (maybe others, haven't tried them all). Thinking I might try one of the other silicone keyboards NewEgg sells. Hoping to get smooth typing again.

4 out of 5 eggsOdd for a touch typer, great for kids

Pros: It's indestructible, my youngest son can't remove the keys from it (read below), my oldest son can pour whatever he wants on it and I can just run it under some water to clean it off, cheap when compared to the other indestructible keyboards.

Cons: For myself, being a touch-typer and very used to normal-feeling keyboards, I find it kind of a nuisance to type on this thing. My son hasn't started learning typing, though, so he's perfectly okay with it. I wouldn't think of starting my son with learning how to type on this keyboard since it just feels awkward.

Other Thoughts: Got this for my son's computer as my youngest (2 years) kept removing the keys from his previous keyboard. When I first unpacked it, he spent nearly an hour trying to figure out how to remove the keys. Didn't work out for him. I recommend this for people with kids who are accident prone, or younger kids that like to rearrange the keys.

1 out of 5 eggsLatest models are throw-aways

Pros: I've been using The FLX series GrandTec boards for almost a decade now, and have even converted my office to use them for silent productivity. The original models were quick to adapt to and had volume controls in-place of three useless nubs. The second revision removed the volume control, but introduced a sturdier button, which operated much more smoothly.

Cons: With the latest reversion, however, GrandTec has turned a classic into a complete dud. Key presses simply do not register without full and forceful contact. It has taken a 90+ WPM user down to less than 30 thanks to constant corrections. The most egregious change of all is a move of the CTRL key to the right, replacing it with a useless plastic key.

Other Thoughts: The CTRL key has been a lower right, bottom-most standard for decades, but GrandTec finally some how got it wrong. The rubber is way too stiff to type accurately or at all the o of the control button. What are they thinking?

4 out of 5 eggsINDESTRUCTABLE

Pros: It is so easy to store and will not get damaged from pressure or falls. I tried to rip this thing with my hands and it still works! It is very easy to clean and any accidental spills will not short out this keyboard.

Cons: The placement of the buttons on this keyboard is unorthodox. There is more than one shift and space button. It takes a while to get used to it and the buttons can move from side to side instead of bouncing up and down so be wary.

5 out of 5 eggsFinaly broke one

Pros: Because of the price, i got this for my wife as a keyboard for her to use, she spills everything on them and i was tired of having to replace normal keyboards. I finially had to order a new one after almost 7 years of using it. I can tell you she will never use a different keyboard on her computer ever again.

Cons: belive it or not, the only con i've ever heard is that it doesn't come in other colors.

5 out of 5 eggsindestructible

Pros: What can I say in a production environment this is a piece of artwork - especially with liquids and dirt contaminents. Prior to this keyboard replaced standard ones every two weeks! So it has laready paid for itself with returns. [4 in service 1 for back-up].

Cons: none to speak of - love the fact this keyboard can roll up and out of the way when not needed.

Other Thoughts: Even with proficient typist this keyboard works well, adjustment time about a week with about a 9% reduction in speed. Perfect for our uses, and in areas where liquid and dust contaminents are a problem.

5 out of 5 eggsSOoo Cool

Pros: Liquid proof!! thank goodness somebody finally made a keyboard for the clumsy.

Cons: A little weird to type on, the keys are kind of spongy.
there is a little air in the rubber envelope, but it does not interfere with functionality.

Other Thoughts: I have lost many keyboards used on my media PC to drinks and children, this one has already saved be the cost of another keyboard.
