IOGEAR GPEN100C USB Digital Scribe

Pros: Works as advertised. Can accurately replicate your drawing and writing and then save as a note or copy to a document. Good value.

Cons: 5 stars if it worked in another actual application instead of requiring copy and paste. Uses its own "Notetaker" software to capture and edit the drawing, then user copies and pastes into application. Not any great advantage to just scanning the paper document, as far as I can tell, unless you specifically want to paste into a Word or other document instead of scanning to PDF. I guess that by saving as a notes document instead of scanning the paper, you can go back and edit, which I almost never did in college. Can only clip to 1-3 sheets of paper, not to a thick legal pad. Therefore I have to turn the pad upside down and then clip to the end with loose paper. Wireless would be nicer, but they are more expensive.

Other Thoughts: Instead of buying ink refills, I am going to look for a "slate" at a toy store, like I had as a little kid.

Pros: Used this gadget to send email, you can draw graphic or write any kind language you want & use mobile digital scribe software to send email. Fast & convenience

Cons: clamp is too tie and not easy insert the paper.

Other Thoughts: This is unfair to give 1 Egg to this product. I tried Penepower Tooya Pro ( $ 130 product) before this item is better. I installed to Windows 7 64 bit version without any problem. First install program & driver CD, reboot your PC, connect hardware to USB. Windows 7 show hardware device after boot up, use wireless pen and screen came out. Don't write the review if you don't know how to use the product.

Pros: Does what it says. Worked right out of the box. Drivers installed on win7 without disc. Used additional program for pen without hassle. Slight lag on a lsower computer between pen movement and data transfer on screen. Installed it on another computer which was faster and it improved considerably.

Cons: Drawing area somewhat limited. Not liking the receiver being attached to page as it gets in the way (for me anyway). Gave this item to one of my many granddaughter's (age 4) and she loves it. For me it should be classed as a toy

Other Thoughts: I knew what it was when I bought it and I also got it on sale and figured what the heck, I spen that much on coffee on a bad day so give it a go with the intention of passing it to kids if I did not like it. I think if I were to buy something similar in the near future I would be looking for one that is "free" of wires and or cables and look for something more portable as well as the ability to cover more drawing space.

Tip:
The GPEN100C is a wired version and it meant for users to turn their PC/notebook into a Tablet PC. The drawing area is limited to A4 or Letter size paper. IOGEAR is going to launch a wireless version with many new features. The new product should solve most of your concerns.

Pros: The device draws diagrams great. It’s inexpensive.

Cons: The MobileDigitalScribe software is clunky. It puts a big yellow notepad on the screen. The “OCR” software is really bad and no integration to the MobileDigitalScribe software. The software will not read my handwriting even when I go slowly. There are no real instructions to make it work better.

Other Thoughts: For the price it’s not bad. There are better solutions out there with more finite control. If you just need it for diagrams it’s great.

Pros: This really makes for a very nice gift to that person that you want to get a tablet for but just dont have the money for that one that does all that great stuff. well this item is the one for you. it writes as well as you can draw with it. which is my original intent for this. Usb so you can use it even on a laptop. as well as works great with desktop. works both as a mouse and as a pen input.

Cons: sometimes doesnt always know where the pen is on the paper but more often than not it does.

Other Thoughts: other than that one con I think this thing is well worth the money.

Pros: Very good. Easy to take notes.

Other Thoughts: Wished it could write on any document. For example, I can get a pdf and sign it on with this but I realize it may not be possible. Although I can save my signature as jpeg and use it in any document I want to..

Pros: Does what it is supposed to do. Even works without actaully writing. before i took the little gel cover off the ink i drew with it to see what it would do without actually drawing. Worked fine. This means that it will work fine for drawing on the comptuer without having to replace the ink cartridge (I read that someone was having trouble with finding a replacement cartridge).

Works as a mouse.

Cons: None that i found yet.

Pros: This device works very well. While in note mode it copies what you write almost exactly, you don't even have to look at the screen.

Cons: The maximum size paper you can use is something like 8 1/2 by 14. This isn't a big deal when using it to write notes but it's kind of annoying in mouse mode, because it scales the dimensions of the paper to the screen, making it hard to use with drawing apps like Paint.

The software doesn't work with Mac OSX or Linux.

Other Thoughts: Overall, this product works exactly as advertised. It would be nice to be able to select a tablet size for the mouse mode so that the mouse motion copied exactly what you drew, but it's still a great deal for the price.

Pros: Works perfectly with Windows 7 and Microsoft OneNote 2007 for taking notes in class. Works well as a mouse.

Cons: In mouse mode it can miss a click here and there and it is all but impossible to right-click. (Although I didn't but this to use as a mouse)

Other Thoughts: I should have ordered two while they were on sale.

Pros: Yes, it can make a reasonably close faximaly of what you draw on paper, and the mouse function helps train you for better hand eye coordination.

Cons: Total trainwreck regarding packaging, and software! Yes, I received the model that was described, but not quite as illistrated in ad. The little cord winder is not part of the deal here. All the instructions and software was made for the wireless model! So, I had to improvise here. I called tech support and they had no answers. OH, do you use Vista or Windows 7? If so, don't buy, won't work at all. Again, tech help had no answer. Alignment on paper is difficult and it has flimsy little clips to secure the reader to paper. I did not return it simply because of added shipping costs and hassles.

Other Thoughts: Just sits in box on my shelf for now. I may pull out when the kids come over and let them fool with it on my old XP laptop.
