1 out of 5 eggsWanted to love this product...but TERRIBLE range. Very Disappointed.

Pros: I fell in love with this keyboard right out of the box. I needed something without the added numpad area to the right so it would fit on my lap and be easy for travel when needed, and this seemed to fit the bill as soon as I unboxed it.

Cons: I was very meticulous with the directions and "Quick Start Guide" in setting it up, but it barely works right out of the box. The range is horrendous...I sit less than three feet from the receiver, which is on an extender from the computer pointed directly at the keyboard, and it misses tons of keys, stops typing altogether, then plays catch-up when I get closer. I removed the extender, plugged the receiver directly into the computer, disabled my wireless router and wireless devices and phones...and even tried it on a DIFFERENT computer...it just has absolutely no range. In addition, the wireless USB dongle I received is extremely tiny. It's the "micro USB" variety, but super slim, and barely bigger than the receiver it fits in. It is actually NOT the USB wireless receiver pictured in this product page series of images, but an entirely different, much cheaper feeling, much smaller version. This may have something to do with the lack of range on the device, but even at 1-2 feet, held directly to the wireless receiver, it misses a key or two out of every five...and will still stop registering keystrokes completely for 10-20 seconds at a time. I've tried different batteries, tried different troubleshooting tips, the works....this keyboard is unfortunately useless and I couldn't be more disappointed. Again, I wanted to love it, because it feels great, has great quiet keys, and feels and looks solid, with great rubber grips on the sides, and the trackball and mouse/wheel parts feel great. But this keyboard is non-functional, as nice as it looks and feels. On a last ditch effort, I took it to my office to try it on multiple machines and laptops to see if it was just my two computers at home (both Windows 10 machines)...all of the Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 computers at the office showed the same exact problems with this receiver.

I couldn't be more disappointed in a product, and I don't blame Newegg. I blame IOGEAR for selling something that is obviously slightly different than the pictured product (different wireless receiver) and obviously has serious issues, and none that could be troubleshooted or fixed (and there are no firmware, software, or driver releases on the IOGEAR website, so nothing you can do to change functionality on the keyboard or hope for fixing any issue that may be related to those areas). Particularly disappointing on this end of no software/firmware/drivers after using an incredible Logitech K520 wireless keyboard ("Unifying") for the past 6+ years or so.

Other Thoughts: My recommendation is to stay away from this keyboard until IOGEAR has addressed the issues with possibly a new/revised version in the near future.

4 out of 5 eggsNot a bad product

Pros: The keyboard and the mouse ball combo is perfect for a HTPC setup. Keyboard feels like a laptop keyboard, with very tactile feedback from key presses.

Cons: I had the older model of this keyboard that lasted me for couple of years of daily use. The older model had a larger and better receiver. The new, small receiver is pretty weak. I had to but a USB extension cable and bring the receiver from behind the back of the TV so the keyboard works properly. That is why I ding it a egg.

4 out of 5 eggsFailed after 32 months of light use.

Pros: Awwesome keyboard. I like that it has the small built-in trackball, big, easy to see keys, great overall balance (weight distribution).
I use this to control my media computer in the livingroom. With the dim theater like room lighting, the full size keys are easy to see, thus making typing easy. Good balance makes it easy to hold on my lap while reclined, and I can control everything on my computer. The wireless connection has excellent range, so I can even control the computer from the breakfast bar.

Cons: One row of keys failed after 30 months. The 'Q' to 'P' keys stopped working - as in nothing appears when the key is pressed. I didn't report it in time, so I'm stuck without being able to warranty it. Can't get it repaired either. This was essentially a lightly used keyboard in a house with no kids. Just me and my wife. The product is essentially new only used for a couple of hours a night. It's not like this was used in an office being typed on full time everyday. Even the screen printed lettering on each of the keys are 100% new.

Other Thoughts: I like the product so much that I'll buy another. If the design team at IOGear ever reads this, I'd recommend that the trackball be a tad more grippy. I found that during the dry months, it was difficult to roll the ball, and found myself having to dampen my thumb to get some grip to roll it. And why would only that row of keys fail. It must be something on the circuit board.

5 out of 5 eggsHTPC

Pros: All in one (keyboard/mouse), RF works through doors, good key feel.

Cons: Not a true con but the dongle is larger than some RF models but not a big deal still smaller than most usb drives.

Other Thoughts: I use this for my HTPC and it works great. I have had others that cost over $100.00 bucks and don't work as good. If you need a low cost RF combo board then get this one.

2 out of 5 eggsGood But

Pros: nice keyboard but

Cons: trackball sucks

Other Thoughts: The trackball works then fails. I have to shake to make it work. This is my 2nd one in 5 years. It has a break in period before it works properly. I'm typing this now and have had to go back and correct missed typed missed space missed keys at least 5 times. Why did I buy again? I've bought 5 other media keyboards to replace and they all work worse than this. Had to shake the keyboard to get pointer to work to click the checkbox about guidelines.

2 out of 5 eggsHas a half life

Pros: Convenient and comfortable.

Cons: Stopped working after a couple months, just like my last IOGEAR wireless keyboard

Other Thoughts: This was the second IOGEAR wireless keyboard I owned. The first one lasted about a year and this one less than a year before they stopped working. It has a convenient design. I just wish they wouldn't expire so quickly. I won't buy another IOGEAR product. The convenience isn't worth having to replace them every couple months.

5 out of 5 eggsTrackball goes out

Pros: great HTPC keyboard.

Cons: Trackball can stick

Other Thoughts: I'm on my second one of these. I love it. Only negative is over time the trackball starts to go south. I replaced the first one after 3 years because the tracball quit working like it should. Put up with the inconvenience for months, and finally replaced it. Everything else still works fine. I liked it so much, I replaced it with an identical keyboard. I've had it a few months now, and the trackball is starting to feel off. I've read that there are some things you can do to improve it's performance when it goes, but they didn't do much for my first one, and this one isn't bad enough for me to mess with it yet. May eventually see what the 3 year warranty might do for me, but for now it's not a problem. Even with this one problem, I still think it deserves 5 eggs.
And despite what another reviewer says, it DOES have an off/on switch on the bottom. If your looking for something to keep next to your recliner to maneuver your Big Screen, I'd strongly recommend you give this one a try.

4 out of 5 eggsIOGEAR GKM561R Black 2.4GHz Wireless HTPC Multimedia Keyboard with Laser Trackball and Scroll Wheel

Pros: Excellent trackball for positioning the pointer on smaller spaces.

Cons: Needs a left click button beside the trackball so you can navigate and select with one hand like the nmediapc it replaces. I REALLY miss this feature. Trackball is loose in its socket and moves the pointer if you tilt the keyboard. Should be a tighter fit.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as expected - 2+ years

Pros: Works as expected, great for a HTPC type application. Use to navigate my pc (screen on my TV) from my couch, web browsing/playing movies ect.

Cons: No on/off switch so if it falls between your couch cushions and a key gets pressed down will wear out your batteries faster. My dog chewed the battery cover off while it was on the floor :)

4 out of 5 eggsHTPC Keyboard

Pros: Range is ok for me (15ft+ ... thru closed cabinet door). Nice having mouse keys and wheel opposite trackball hand and all needed functions included without 2nd device (mouse).

Cons: Trackball tracking is a bit "vague". It gets there, but it's a bit frustrating at times.

Other Thoughts: A good purchase for the money tho more precision with the trackball would be appreciated.
