4 out of 5 eggsGreat for HTPC

Pros: This is great for HTPC use. It's back-lit keys are easy to see at night and the trackball works great. It has forward and back keys and a scroll wheel on the left side that actually works great with the side of your thumb. It has great range. It has a cover that protects it and puts it in standby mode.

Cons: The biggest con is the trackball doesn't remove for cleaning. After a year it stopped responding well. I blew compressed air from my air compressor into it and that fixed it. After a while that stopped working and I was going to toss it. Instead I soaked a cotton ball with alcohol and cleaned the ball. Letting the alcohol seep behind the ball as I turned it, then blew it out again and now it works great again. Every trackball should be removable so I docked this keyboard 1 egg.

The keyboard is not that good but this is for a HTPC so you shouldn't be typing more than web addresses or login info with it. The keys are small and flat and feel cheap. I won't take points off for this since mini keyboards are not designed for typing.

Other Thoughts: I have tried a dozen different HTPC mini keyboards and this one is my favorite. The trackball and mouse keys, scroll wheel are in comfortable places. It lights up bright for night time use. It has great battery life. I use rechargeable's and swap then about once a month before they die out. All mini's have compromises but this one is strong in features where it needs to be strong. Still working after 3 years of heavy use.

4 out of 5 eggsFantastic Gear!

Pros: Compact. Lightweight. It is backlit, and has a protective cover. The wireless signal is excellent from across the living room, and all keys are very responsive. Have not had one missed character! In about 5 minutes I was comfortable with using it.

Cons: Trackball is a little sticky, but with gentle, persistent pressure it is usable. I really like the all in one design with a trackball though.

Other Thoughts: Some people may be having more trouble than me with trackball because of heavy use. I don't think it or the keyboard are designed for full-fledged web surfing and email writing on the TV. I have it for my HTPC, and for what I use it for, signing in, getting updates, selecting My Movies in Windows Media Center, I think it's perfect.

1 out of 5 eggsToo many flaws

Pros: Small
Has a protective cover
Backlight

Cons: Low durability on track ball
Keys are spaced poorly

Other Thoughts: I had high hopes for this keyboard. I thought it would be perfect for my HTPC setup. Wrong! The keys are spaced in a way that makes it nearly unusable. I tried to tell myself it's a learning curve, I will get used to it. Too bad the trackball started to stop working after 1 month. I could only use the trackball if I held the entire keyboard upside down over my head. IOGear needs to revisit this one.

1 out of 5 eggsThought it would be nice

Pros: Compact design, backlit keyboard.

Cons: Trackball is a piece of junk! For what they get for this unit, a minimally useful trackball is not too much to ask. It's just too small and too slippery to actually work. Who wants to moisten their digit to get this thing to work? A larger, rubberized ball might make all the difference. We've moved this unit to a less used machine and added a wireless mouse to make it useable.

Other Thoughts: We haven't found a useful, quality HTPC keyboard yet, even after buying three different kinds. These segment of the the computer peripheral business is simply pathetic.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. These comments will be sent to the product manager for his review. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

2 out of 5 eggsGood product except for Trackball

Pros: Compact design with great feature like the wheel for scrolling and the shortcut function keys. Very practical to keep handy rather than the larger wireless keyboards

Cons: The Trackball is the major flaw. Found I had to constantly moisten my thumb to get it to work. As others point out the Trackball can't be cleaned. Mine became unusable after about 6 months of daily use.

Other Thoughts: It does comes with a 3 year warranty which I had to use. My problem was handled to my satisfaction in a timely manner by the IOGEAR. In spite of this problem I give it two eggs since it is handy to have. Hopefully they will re-design the Trackball on future models.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. Please email us with a phone number to contact you at support@iogear.com. We will be more than happy to contact you with quality service and process an RMA. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggsThe device works for me.

Pros: I use this device on my Entertainment PC that is part of my home audio and video. In a dark room while watching TV/Movies or just web surfing the back light makes it easy to see. The little keyboard fits nicely with the other remotes. The trackball and scroll wheel eliminates the need to have a mouse which is why I bought it. It is very convenient as a TV remote for the entertainment PC. The signal is also great. At 2.4 GHz you don't need line of site to use it and the range is about twice as much as I'll ever need. I like the device so much, I just bought another for my Front Living room.

Cons: Like in the other reviews I've read, the escape key is an alternate function key that takes a little getting use to. I don't use this keyboard for gaming for very good reasons but I didn't buy it for that anyway.

Other Thoughts: If you are using the same PC for gaming that you would for this mini keyboard, then you will really want a full size keyboard and mouse.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's OK to Nice!

Pros: Nice little wireless keyboard with built in trackball. Keys work OK. Trackball is OK. Has trackball dpi selection settings.

Cons: Backlight could be a little brighter. Had some problems and almost wrote a bad review. Batteries that came with it must have been defective or old (Maxell AA's). It was acting like it had an intermittent signal so the cursor would sometimes stick, and some keys, when typing did not register. Besides that, function key and arrows are a bit hard to get used to.

Other Thoughts: After replacing batteries, I haven't had the problems except a couple rare instances. Sometimes you need to follow instructions and press reset key in back. Overall, a neat thing (was frustrating when it wasn't working right, because of the battries). Still, seems at certain time , other RF signals might be interfering ith the opration of it, a little bit. ot it workking OK without having to contact Newegg or iogear (almost had to/then replaced batteries).

4 out of 5 eggsMini-Keyboard

Pros: I wanted small and I got it. It was a great deal as well. Contrary to what others have said I thought it was well built. I like the cover. It feels secure. We use it for the computer attached to our TV. I just hate dragging large keyboards around in the living room with USB extension cable attached so I thought this would help. It stores easily.

Cons: Until I read one of the other reviews, I didn't know it was back-lit. I can't read the keys without reading glasses. I just make sure I have them on when I use it. Even with small fingers it feels awkward. But for what I need it does the job. I agree with someone's comment about the fast mouse. You do have to have fine motor control in your right hand with the little mouse ball. Over time I'm getting better.

Other Thoughts: You can adjust to this keyboard. It takes time and patience. If you have some type of nervous condition I would avoid this keyboard and look for something bigger. Next time I will look for a larger wireless keyboard.

2 out of 5 eggsCould be better

Pros: Good wireless range.

Cons: Blue backlight was pointless as the printing on the keys were too small to read, red lighting may help. Section of the keyboard was dark due to a burned out led anyway. Trackball moved with the slightest touch, very sensitive. Thumb needed to be kept on the ball to guarantee cursor positioning on screen. Having to hit esc as a secondary key was a mistake in design.

Other Thoughts: Small, good range, but a cheap feel and design flaws leave a lot to be desired.

1 out of 5 eggstrackball doesnt work

Pros: Compact,backlight

Cons: Trackball does not work

Other Thoughts: I RMA'd this because the trackball did'nt work at all. To bad, it's a good concept, small and lite
