5 out of 5 eggsBack for a second one

Pros: Addition to my previous review from 2015-02-22: I'm back to buy another, and well worth the money.

Brilliant feel to the keys. Can type as fast or faster than on an old 101 key Lexmark

Works perfectly in moderate gaming, mostly older games though like L4D2, UT3, SR IV, Carmageddon Reincarnation.

Build quality is excellent with the exception of the blue LED

It's real strength is in typing speed and accuracy. You'll be very hard pressed to find a keyboard with better feel than this one, and I'm *hugely* picky about my keyboards. I'm a very fast typist, this one actually helps me type faster.

Noticeably better than any keyboard I've owned, and my experience with computers goes back to 1985.

Cons: One real con, one trivial quibble:

The con is that for some reason it stopped working when plugged into a powered USB hub. I've been using it in that configuration since February without any problems, suddenly this morning it just flat doesn't work unless it's plugged directly into my computer or my laptop. I've tried it with two different powered hubs, no joy, even though it's been working that way for months.

All the other devices on the hubs continue to work just fine, so it seems to be specific to the keyboard. That's why I'm back to buy a second one, because it's so brilliant that if it dies completely, I don't want to be without one of these for even a day if I can avoid it!

The trivial quibble is as others have noted, the blue indicator LED "leaks", so that when Caps Lock is on, it looks like the adjacent Scroll Lock and Num Lock indicators are illuminated too. It's not a functional problem, it just a slightly less than perfect feature on an otherwise perfect keyboard.

Other Thoughts: If SIIG would produce these without the USB hub/ports and sell it for $20 less, I'd buy at least 4 of them just to be certain I have spares available.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Solid. Aluminum body. Excellent tactile feedback with scissor switches. Build in USB hub. STANDARD key layout.

Cons: keyboard is elevated just a little too much where the USB ports are for my liking. No adjustable height/angle. USB ports are USB2 only.

Other Thoughts: I personally love the scissor switch feeling on a keyboard. I tend to type so much faster on them than other mechanical switch or membrane types. I got this keyboard because I needed a new replacement for my old Bytec keyboard I got at F r y 's for $15 8 years ago.
The reason I knocked an egg off is because there is no height adjustment to this keyboard at all....and to me, it is elevated just a little too much around where the USB ports are. I'm not even sure WHY because the USB ports aren't THAT bulky to begin with. It's elevated almost a full inch where the USB ports are.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far it's brilliant

Pros: Only had it a few days so reliability is still unknown.

Fantastic feel to the keys, absolutely precise and absolutely consistent.

Very high quality build, feels rock solid. Heavy enough.

A product has to really exceed my expectations to get 5 stars instead of 4. SIIG has definitely earned the 5.

Cons: Not a con, but as others have mentioned the blue LEDs for Num Lock/Caps Lock/Scroll Lock bleed over, so if the center LED is on (Caps lock) it looks like it's on "high beam" and the other two are on "low beam"

It's completely harmless but it does stand out as "less than perfect" on what otherwise looks and feels like perfectly precise hardware.

Personally I think they should lose the LEDs completely, they're antiques of limited or no use in the 21st century.

Other Thoughts: I'm one of those guys who literally had a large box full of the old IBM/Lexmark 101 key keyboards and got them rebuilt as needed until the compatibility issues got too annoying.

This is the first keyboard I've ever come across that's actually better than the old clacky IBM ones when it comes to typing speed an accuracy.

I've tried every keyboard I can find, been through several of the Logitech K800 (type well but extremely fragile and barely last a year) several other Logitechs (MK710, diNovo and others) and a DASKeyboard (ridiculously overpriced, squeaky, keys stick and very uncomfortable)

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of Junk

Pros: Great feel. I loved it. Until...

Cons: I've used this keyboard about 5 weeks. It arrived, and the left side ALT key was sticky, especially if I did not hit it dead center. OK. I decided to live with that and see it how worked out.
Yesterday, the CAP LOCK light quit working - OR - when it sometimes does come on, all three lights come on. Same with NUM LOCK. So I contacted SIIG for RMA and was told, "Our policy states that customer is responsible for shipping products back to us for a repair/replacement." This is on an item that has been in use slightly over a month. NO PRIDE IN PRODUCTS. WON'T BUY SIIG AGAIN.

Other Thoughts: I've used another major brand of keyboard for many years. The last one lasted 11 years and still works - the letters are just wearing out. With all the good reviews, I thought I'd try to heavier aluminum keyboard. My mistake. JUNK!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsGood keyboard, good customer service

Pros: This keyboard has excellent key action, which is the main reason why I bought it. It also has a hard aluminum casing, which in theory should make it more resistant to damage. What motivates me to leave a positive review was SIIG's customer service; I bout one of these about six months ago, and recently, the numbers at the top of the keyboard stopped responding. The physical feel of the keys was the same but for whatever reason they weren't producing the output. This degradation happened quite suddenly over the course of two weeks (at first it was one or two keys, then most of them). I emailed SIIG's customer support, explained the situation, and the next day I had an RMA number. I sent the old keyboard back to them and soon got a working one back. Nice job.

Cons: Might be a bit small. If you have giant hands, you're going to find that this keyboard is a bit cramped.

Other Thoughts: The hub is nice and convenient.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Solid feel and weight. Great quality.

Shorter keystroke length, Laptop-ish. Thats what I was looking for.

Keys strike well and true.

Cons: Not as quiet as it could be, but its worth it for the feel.

No back-lighting. But you know that already.

Other Thoughts: Just get it. I'm glad I did.

2 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with Windows-7 system

Pros: Fairly sturdy.

Cons: Doesn't work with Windows-7 system.
Very sharp edges next to outer keys.

Other Thoughts: Other reviews have stated that there is no flexing when center keys are pressed, this is not true, it flexes some.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Keyboard

Pros: I purchased this keyboard looking for a replacement to a great keyboard I had that got wet !

Exact same touch, wonderful to use for long periods of time, 2 usb ports work great with Logitech track ball and one additional wireless mouse.

Sturdy, aluminum. Don't fall into the trap I fell into- purchasing numerous cheap keyboards hoping for a gem.

Nothing under $30 compares....
Nothing. I mean that. Seriously.

I have purchased 5 keyboards under $30. All unsatisfactory.
If you make your living using a keyboard, buy this one.

Cons: No cons with this keyboard.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost Perfect.

Pros: Sturdy, responsive scissor-key structure, classy design.

Cons: Not back-lit, wired (not really an issue for me).

Other Thoughts: I'm pretty picky when it comes to keyboards. I bought this one on good faith from the reviews, and I'm not disappointed. I greatly enjoy the scissor-keys; it has the sensitivity of a laptop keyboard but it still feels solid. The USB ports make for easy connection for my mouse, which I move to different computers often. I use the keyboard for gaming as well as general use. My only complaint is that it's not backlit, making it difficult to type in low light. Highly recommended nonetheless.
