STRIX TACTIC PRO

Ultra Responsive
No Ghosting

STRIX TACTIC PRO

N-Key Rollover (NKRO) over USB
Press too many keys on a traditional keyboard and you'll suffer "ghosting" that stops some keys being registered — and that hinders precise control. Strix Tactic Pro employs the highest-specification N-Key Rollover (NKRO) technology to ensure that every key press is registered, no matter how many keys are held down at once. When you need Strix Tactic Pro to behave like a traditional keyboard, the 6-Key Rollover (6KRO) switch does the job instantly!

5 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: ASUS have released an updated firmware. With this firmware the keyboard now works as a standard keyboard in BIOSes and non Windows OSes.

Cons: .

Other Thoughts: The Special keys like the multimedia keys vol up, pause, play etc do not work under all Linuxes, but eventually the various distros will fix that.

Be careful not to toggle NKRO (FN PGUP) as the keyboard will stop working until you toggle NKRO back again.

5 out of 5 eggsFANTASTIC! Well Made! Precise!

Pros: This Keyboard is Solid. Well Made. Precise. I have yet to hit a typing limit (where keys do not register). This is hands down the best mechanical keyboard I have used. Hardware and Software Stored Macros. One Software controls your Strix Mouse and Keyboard for programming.

Cons: The only Con I have with this Keyboard is the type of Macros allowed are only recorded. I am unable to set a string of text or open to a file. Having premade commands that I could empty into a text field then press a key would be fantastic however Macro Recording is my only option. - In addition - the Macro Recorder has a tendency duplicate key presses.

Other Thoughts: This Keyboard is amazing.... example of quality and durability of use.
Just this week - my clumsy self has spilled Coffee and Tea on this keyboard this week. After Spraying 91% Rubbing Alchohol on this keyboard each time and letting it dry - functions as new. No Damage! No errors! All my Hardware Marcros still here. Not one keyboard I have had survived this without me having to actually take it a part and clean. I'll update if this Keyboard survives Milk spill - lets hope I don't continue to spill drink on this amazing piece of essential computing peripheral.

3 out of 5 eggsMixed Feelings

Pros: -Overall build Quality seems good.
-Lots of macro buttons
-Compact
- Price was right - At the time on sale for $89.99 with a $30 rebate

Cons: -Has a compacted keyboard. Everything kind of squished in Main Keyboard area between Cap Locks and Enter key is a full inch or more compacted compared to standard keyboard.
-keys are tiny
-Had firmware upgrade issues

Other Thoughts: Overall I want to like this board and kind of do but I am having alot of difficulties with the compacted keyboard. Keys are tiny with alot less surface area and alot less space between the keys which has caused me often to catch surrounding keys when I try to type. Additionally, I find the typing position uncomfortable I feel I have to hold me hands very close together to line up on the keys correctly. Further since I have always used a full size keyboard and still do at the office, I have hard time transitioning between the keyboards and often find myself lining up my fingers incorrectly (to far to the left on the Strix after using the standard keyboard or two far to the right when trying to transition from the Strix to standard keyboard. It has really hurt my typing speed both at work and at home. I will say if you are fingertip typist it might not be a issue but I am a key masher.

Also I have had issues with the firmware. First time I tried to upgrade it killed the keyboard and I had to return it. Now I still seem to be having driver issues but it might just be my computer.

Overall I wouldn't recommend the keyboard for its full price of $130 but despite overall not being really happy with the keyboard, I am going to keep it because I just can't beat the $59.99 price tag after rebate because there is absolutely nothing with Cherry Switches and full macro functionality that I can touch for that price. Also a lot of my issues are with the keyboard layout rather than anything else so please keep that in mind.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat keyboard!

Pros: Amber lighting compliments my wood desk, hardware macros work flawlessly, Cherry switches are as good as I expected, and the keyboard is really heavy - doesn't budge!

Would definitely recommend this to others.

Also would like to make it a point to say that the lighting has 5 settings. Off - 3 levels of brightness - fade in/out. Had noticed another commenter failed to even do the basic reading on how the keyboard works.

The volume roller is a really nice feature too.

Cons: The software is meh, however the hardware macros are solid. I set one up after reading the manual (had to download it) to open the calculator and it works great!

Other Thoughts: Would absolutely recommend this keyboard to anyone looking for browns. I also had a G710+ and didn't like how the o-rings dampened the brown switches.

I do miss the USB passthrough from the G710+, that came in handy more often than I thought it would.

1 out of 5 eggsAsus loyalist, but very dissappointed.

Pros: It's amber/orange and very solid.

Cons: 1. It won't boot into BIOS on a ASUS P8P67Pro motherboard
2. It's about 1/2" smaller than my other keyboards, which shouldn't be an issue, but how many times do I want to hit "A" and get CAPSLOCK INSTEAD.
3. I can't touch type nearly as fast on this board as I can on other cheap keyboards since the keys are so sensitive and require about 1/16" of their 1/4" travel to register. Lots of extra keys pressed on accident.

2 out of 5 eggsUnable to Boot into BIOS with this Keyboard

Pros: Cherry MX Brown - typing feels very good and it's not as loud as blue
Sturdy - the keyboard is well made and the key caps feel very comfortable
Inexpensive - same as one of the comments had pointed out, this keyboard is a good buy at $60. Don't go for the cheap Kailh switches - a lot of Kailh keyboards are selling around this price point.

Cons: My biggest disappointment with this keyboard is that I cannot load into BIOS with the DEL key. Seems like all the keys are not responding during the boot screen. I have the latest keyboard firmware. To get into the BIOS, I have to plug in an old cheap keyboard. I am hoping that ASUS would fix this.

Other Thoughts: The keyboard arrived without a seal on the paper box. Three of the orange caps were scattered in the box while one of them sitting in the plastic bag. The keyboard was an open-box item.

This keyboard is ORANGE backlit, so make sure you are fine with it before you make the purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Keyboard

Pros: This is my first mechanical keyboard and I am overall impressed the quality and the cherry MX switches. It has a very different feel than a normal membrane keyboard. I don't really think this is that much "better" than a normal keyboard but it is more responsive and you can type with less effort.

I like the overall layout of this keyboard including the multimedia keys and the scroll wheel which controls the volume level.

Cons: Asus's software is garbage. I don't have a use for keyboard macros so this is not a concern for me.

2 out of 5 eggsMassively disappointing

Pros: Well, after playing with this keyboard for a while, its pros are a distressingly short list: Cherry Brown MX mechanical switches, and a braided cover and gold-plated connector on its USB cable. And, uh ... well, the Asus name on it, which is usually reputable. But perhaps not so much in this case. I'm giving it two stars for the Cherry mechanical switches, and that's all it earns from me.

Cons: Ergonomically, this keyboard is terrible, a thick, hard-edged plank. I had high hopes for the backlighting until I plugged it in and discovered that the backlight is on a four-second or so cycle from full brightness to off, which YOU CANNOT TURN OFF. The brightness keys don't do anything. The roller control at the top right of the keyboard also doesn't do anything. What's the use of a backlight that keeps turning itself on and off, and on, and off, and on, and off.....? Asus — or maybe Strix — seems to have completely missed the point and purpose of backlighting. Backlighting is supposed to make your keyboard quickly and easily usable in a dark or dimly-lit room, not make it look vaguely cool sitting on your desk as you pose and flex your elite-gamer cred.

The included software also appears to have no way to turn this glaring misfeature off. Neither does it give any clue how to make the roller control above the numpad work, or tell you what it's supposed to do. Matter of fact the keyboard configuration software won't even SHOW you the roller control. Or even the keypad. Or give any clues whatsoever about how to use the configuration software itself.

And by the way ... have a magnifying glass at hand before you open the skimpy single-sheet qucik start guide, because you're going to need it. Don't expect much enlightenment about the keyboard's features from it, because there's practically nothing there you can't tell more easily just from looking at the keyboard itself.

Other Thoughts: I had high hopes for this keyboard, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. Not at all what I've come to expect from Asus. It's so poor I'm almost shocked they put their name on it.

4 out of 5 eggsQuality keyboard with on-board macro execution

Pros: When I purchased this keyboard I wanted 4 things: 1) mechanical keys, 2) lots of macro keys, 3) macros that are stored in and run completely ON THE KEYBOARD, and do not require any software on the computer (other than the basic drivers that windows installs when you plug in a new USB device), and 4) good build quality. This keyboard met all of these.

Pros: On-the-fly macro recording and macro using is easy, and doesn’t need any specific software on the computer to work. Also, the volume and media controls work without the Asus software installed, and you can control the keyboard backlighting (Off > 3 brightness levels > pulse) without the using any software. The keys feel great, the keyboard itself is plastic but looks and feels very solid, and is surprisingly heavy. Lots of macro keys, I especially like the bank of ten off to the left.

Cons: Cons: The backlighting is not great – orange lighting is your only option, keys with more than one character are unevenly lit, number keys across the top have the symbols lit up much more than the numbers.

Other Thoughts: In all, I am happy with this keyboard. It was surprisingly hard to find a keyboard with LOTS of macro keys that didn’t need software running on the PC to program or use the macros, and that was a priority for me. So this keyboard fit my needs perfectly. Backlighting didn’t really matter to me, but if backlighting had been important to me I would probably be disappointed with this keyboard, especially for full price.

4 out of 5 eggsStrangely comfortable to use

Pros: High quality key caps make for a pleasant keyboard experience. The entire keyboard feels very nice and solid. I like the amber color, but it took me a while to realize that the maximum backlighting setting was actually causes the lights to pulse from brightest to lowest. Cool I guess, but I can't think of any applications.

I couldn't think for a use for its 300 macros.

Cons: Software leaves a lot to be desired. Although functional, its slow and has a tendency to hang.

You also have to update the firmware upon getting it, which is not a big deal.

My Control button didn't work so I had to return it. It's a shame, typing on it was a joy.

Volume control isn't rubberized like the logitech g710+. Wish it was, it feels amazing on the g710+

Other Thoughts: I was skeptical of its price vs. performance. Overall it was a very nice keyboard even though it had issues. I would say it is a good buy at 60 dollars, but no more. At a higher price point like$80 dollars and above, I expect more fancy pants features. Such as palm rests, multi-color and blah blah.
