4 out of 5 eggsDecent keyboard for the price

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xRBR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlit

Pros: Good footprint size
Lack of excessive useless buttons
Good fee, good key sizes
Numpad
Backlight

Cons: Keys starting to stick after 4 months

Other Thoughts: After reading some of the reviews I was a bit skeptical and worried about getting stuck keys. Fortunately I did not have any out of the box but after about 4 months I'm starting to get stuck keys occasionally. Most commonly it's the space bar or S key for me. They don't happen often and tapping the key again will make it stop. The backlight is nice even though I don't play in the dark that often. I like how there aren't any Gkeys or other useless macro keys all over the place on this keyboard since I never use that stuff. I also didn't think that the lack of a windows key on the right side of the keyboard would that much of an inconvenience. I never realized how often I try to use only 1 hand to windows + left or right a window to move it around so it has been a nuisance. If this keyboard ever gets updated it'd be nice to see the windows key and the function key swapped so that you can still do 1 handed commands. Still, for the price I paid, I've been content.

5 out of 5 eggsLove the feel of it

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xRBR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlit

Pros: Great feel, feels very well built, love typing on it. I'm a software engineer, and very seldom play games, so the feel of the keyboard is the main reason that I selected this unit.

Cons: They don't support Linux for it. That's not to say that it doesn't work with Linux, but there are a couple little glitches. In particular the "Num lock" and "Caps lock" indicators don't work. I seldom use either, so it's not a big deal to me.

It's also louder than I expected. I did purchase the set of dampener o-rings, and I'm going to try installing them tonight.

Other Thoughts: My arrived in "Gaming" mode, which means, for me, that the "Windows" key is disabled. After scanning through the manual, I discovered that 'Fn+F12' switches to "PC" mode, which solves this problem.

Update: I've now owned this keyboard for around a year, and have since purchased a second one. I love them both. Do purchase and install the dampener o-rings, it makes a huge difference.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Keyboard-cord TOO stiff

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xRBR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlit

Pros: Great key feel and actuation, as you'd expect from Cherry switches. For me; the brown switches are the perfect middle between blacks (high actuation force) and reds (low actuation force). Though they're rated as a "non click" type mechanical key; there is a low click sound when used. I really like the illuminated keyboard, for when I'm gaming, and it has a number of features (2 2.0 USB ports, mic and headphone jacks, macro keys, detachable wrist rest, etc) that I don't use.

Cons: The power cord consists of three separate elements. The USB cord that powers the keyboard, plus two smaller cords with 3.5mm jacks that plug into the mic and headphone jacks on your comp. Allowing you to plug those two devices directly into the keyboard, rather than the comp. While the three cords start as separate; Rosewill bundles them together under a braided cloth sheathing for approximately two thirds of the cord's length. This bugger is STIFF! I f you want to move the keyboard around much........the cord is a pain in the elbow to manipulate.

Other Thoughts: Other than the cord issue; a great keyboard and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality mechanical unit!

4 out of 5 eggsNearly Perfect

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xRBR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlit

Pros: Cherry MX Brown switches
Even red backlighting
Full-size, not over-sized
Not too loud
Audio/USB passthrough
Cold connectors

Cons: Some issues with "sticking" keys at first, but hasn't happened since first few days

Other Thoughts: Outside of the small concern from the initial sticking key thing, I've really happy with the keyboard. Someone should figure out what's up with the sticking keys, though, as it seems to be relatively common.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat keyboard, flimsy wristpad

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xRBR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlit

Pros: -The keyboard is well laid out, every key feels perfect to my fingers
-Gaming mode is a huge boon when playing games that don't support borderless windows
-Glows pretty colors
-Wristpad feels nice

Cons: -The connectors that hold the wristpad to the keyboard are incredibly easy to break. Seems like a cut-corner.

Other Thoughts: I'm too spoiled to go back to a non-mechanical keyboard

5 out of 5 eggsBest KB I've ever owned!

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xRBR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlit

Pros: Nice basic aesthetics, does not have crazy colors or a ton of flashing lights like most gaming KBs. Your choice of Cherry MX switches, I went the browns & love them! Very nice red backlighting, not extremely bright but more than enough for using in the dark & very little light bleed from under the keys. Has 2 USB ports & audio jacks extensions on it. Some gaming features & macros with the included software.

Cons: None that I found yet, if pressed for one weakness I'd point out the software for making macros is not very good & kinda confusing.

Other Thoughts: I highly suggest buying O-rings for dampening the key & a key puller with this KB. I O-ringed mine up & it feels much better when typing than without them.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Keyboard

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xRBR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlit

Pros: This is a really solid keyboard that I would greatly recommend.
The photos provided do not do it justice; I have it sitting in a slight shadow and it looks awesome as it glows red in the dark.
Really smooth typing experience. This is my first mechanical keyboard, but from others I have tested (various ones from Razer, corsair, and Roccat) I find this has the smoothest experience of them all.
The hand-rest looks really awkward in the photos, but it is amazingly comfortable for everyday use.
The Cherry MX Brown key switches makes the keys extremely light to the touch and is completely worth the upgrade from a membrane keyboard if you want a lighter and all around better experience.
As with most mechanical keyboards, the keys are removable and the added optional orange gaming keys are a nice touch.

Cons: Its a little expensive. I bought it on sale for $99, but I personally think there could be some better options out there for under the normal price point of $150.
Occasionally the backspace key will just randomly act like you are holding it down until you press it again. I have found no related cause for it, so it appears random. Its not too much of an inconvenience, but it can be annoying at times.
However, I have had the keyboard for roughly 2 months now and it has only done it maybe 3 or 4 times with 6+ hours of use daily from gaming to homework, so its not exactly common in my case.
Its kind of loud. If you are going for a super silent keyboard, I would not recommend this. It is not as loud as if you had bought one with Cherry MX Blue key switches, but it is noticeable over a skype call depending on how you type (however I never notice it making much sound while gaming, so this could simply be my typing style).
All of these are just minor issues.

Other Thoughts: Overall, its great. Full recommended 5 stars. I love the experience typing with it and I recommend it to anyone who reads this.
As I previously mentioned, its relatively expensive at $150 and there are some better options under that price point for a similar if not better experience. I would recommend buying it when it is on sale if that is an option, because my purchase at $99 was definitely worth it.
I have no regrets from purchasing this keyboard. If you are reading this as someone who only has membrane keyboards, go buy a mechanical keyboard if you can. This one is great, but any one of the hundreds of them are great. Mechanical is an amazing step up from membrane (my personal preference is Cherry MX Brown because it is very light. Red is a good solid key switch, Black is heavier, and Blue is very light and gives that clicking sound) and should definitely be considered.
Hope this all helps you on your keyboard buying endeavors!

3 out of 5 eggsCould have been closer to perfection

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xRBR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlit

Pros: Very well built, mechanically. The feel of the keyboard is absolutely excellent.

Cons: Useless USB ports (they don't operate at 2.0 speeds). Lights for Numlock, Capslock, and Gaming Mode are not dimmable, so if they're on, you really know it. The software must be hacked since the instructions are not even close to being useful. Pretty much everything in the upper righthand corner of the keyboard is of questionable value.

Other Thoughts: This is the best keyboard I've ever owned (although that isn't saying much). If it were my product, I would have scrapped the USB extension ports, mic, and headphone connections, and would have made the key legends visible without backlighting, just like instruments in aircraft.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but does not work as expected with OSX

This review is from: Rosewill Apollo - RK-9100xRBR - Mechanical Keyboard with Red Backlit

Pros: Great keyboard, lighting effects are decent, feels good.

Cons: Does not work well with OSX. The Cmd-Backspace keystroke to delete word backwards which I rely on HEAVILY does not work when this keyboard is connected to my MBP over USB (via a lightning hub). This seems to be ok with other external keyboards. Also, the LED lights for Caps/Num lock don't turn on.

Other Thoughts: Wanted to keep this keyboard but I think I'll have to change my mind because of the OSX keyboard issue.
